In
my
mind
I
was
12
years
old
in
South
Jamaica
Queens
riding
through
the
woods
(back
then
there
really
was
thickly
forested
lots,
full
of
rubbish)
on
my
single
speed
sting
ray
bicycle.
But,
in
reality
I
am
actually
riding
the
new
BMW
Cross
Challenge
in
the
forest
of
Daytona
Beach
having
the
time
of
my
life.
Off
road
riding
is
something
I
get
to
do,
maybe
once
a
year,
if
I
am
lucky.
Thankfully
BMW
sent
me
to
experience
the
new
“Cross”
and
“F800”
models
in
February,
nice
perk.
For
the
days
leading
up
to
my
Sales
Training
trip
I
was
very
apprehensive
about
off
road
riding
on
the
Cross
Bikes,
but
as
soon
as
we
hit
the
dirt
all
my
fear
gradually
faded
away,
and
then
the
fun
began.
What
I
found
interesting
was
how
effectively
this
four
hour
romp
in
the
woods
reduced
a
year
worth
of
stress,
what
a
cathartic
experience
even
better
than
a
case
of
fine
Chardonnay!
The
Cross
Challenge
is
a
650cc
machine,
but
very
forgiving
and
much
fun.
I
am
only
a
novice
in
the
dirt,
but
the
Cross
Challenge
definitely
gave
me
the
confidence
to
push
it
a
little
more
than
usual.
BMW
does
it
again,
look
out
Enduro
world,
we
are
coming
on
strong!
Now
to
the
street
armed
with
the
F800S,
F800ST
and
the
Cross
Moto;
street
riding
is
where
I
really
feel
at
home,
and
I
was
rite
at
home
with
these
machines.
The
low
end
torque
of
the
F800
parallel
twin
reminded
me
of
the
Boxer
Engine.
The
counter
balanced
liquid
cooled
power
plant
was
smooth
and
shifted
effortlessly
through
all
six
speeds.
Very
competent,
fast,
nimble
and
fun
fun
fun
to
ride!
The
cross
Moto
is
a
hooligan
bike,
what
a
blast,
and
if
I
could
have
several
motorcycles
in
the
shed
this
would
be
one
of
them.
The
seat
is
a
little
rough
on
the
derrière
for
long
trips,
but
everything
else
is
really
nice.
Give
