HELPFUL TIPS AND REMINDERS FOR HOT WEATHER RIDING
Adapted from "Hot Weather Tactics" by Charles Plueddeman, H-D Enthusiast
*Stay Hydrated - Steady hydration is key. Easiest and most effective is a water bladder backpack that allows for frequent sipping rather waiting to have a drink at every stop.

*Make frequent stops. When it is really hot resting in a shady spot or air-conditioned building helps cool your body's core which, in turn, keeps your mind alert.

*Plan a siesta. A route that includes a mid-day break is relaxing. Leave at dawn to cover the big miles before it gets really hot, then, if possible, stop at a river or lake. The water and shade will rejuvinate you. Especially if you jump in for a swim!

*This one will sound a bit surprising: Wear wool socks! Thick wool socks insulate feet from the heat radiating from the road, and they also wick away moisture.

*Skip the unecessary blast of heat to your face that results with an open-face helmet. If your spending time in high temperatures go with a full-face modular helmet with flip up chin bar. A light- weight balaclava under the helmet covers the neck and can be soaked in cool water beforehand.

FLHTCU ULTRA CLASSIC ELECTRA GLIDE
OPEN WIDE. THE ULTRA CLASSIC IS THE TOURING SMORSGASBORD.
When your mother made you finish everything on your plate, she was preparing you for bigger things. The Ultra Classic feeds the biggest motorcycle appetite. Spacious hardbags. Comfort stitiched seat with wraparound passenger backrest. Electronic passenger controls. And redesigned two-position King Tour Pak for more passenger room. Hope you're still hungry. There's more. Vented fairing lowers to keep legs cool on hot days. Cruise control. CB intercom. A Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio System that clearly belts out the tunes through four speakers or headset. And for the main course: six gears of Milwaukee brewed, 96-cubic-inch V-Twin. Make your mother proud.

FOR THE FUN OF HARD-CORE BIKERS HERE'S THE POSER POSSIBILITY LIST
YOU MIGHT BE A POSER IF:
- You spit out the bug that just flew in your mouth. - You spend more time shining your bike than riding it. - You're too cool to wave at the kids in the mom-mobile in front of you. - You grab for your hairbrush before your old lady. - Your $500 boots aren't scuffed from riding. - You think that a kick-starter is a mocha latte. - You set at least one mirror, if not both, to reflect yourself. - Your saddle bags say "Gucci". - You carry a lap-top in your saddle bags. - Your tattoos wash off. - You put your pony-tail back in the drawer after you get home. - You won't ride down a gravel road. - You've never seen a sunrise from two wheels. - You only ride on weekends, when you can. - You never ride to work. - There are no wrinkled, faded, creased, or scratched areas on your leathers. - You don't own a rain suit. - You've never ridden long enough to know that stock seats are never comfortable. - You've never had to replace a worn out tire. - You've had to replace your tires, but because they were too old and not too worn. - You like to ride by stores with big picture windows so you can admire your reflection. - Your longest road trip this year was to Hooter's for bike night.

KIM'S TIPS FOR RAINY WEATHER RIDING
Sopping wet riders look a little pathetic when you’re cruising by in a car – don’tcha think? Be smart and invest in the proper rain apparel. When choosing rain gear, look for fabric that is lightweight, breathable, and will keep the rain out. Waterproof nylon, poly cotton, micro denier and Gore-Tex all fit the bill.

Rain suits are often sold as a set, but some brands sell the jacket and pants separately. Be sure your rain suit is sized to fit over your leather jacket and the hood is helmet-friendly and/or removable.

Look for reflective graphics. Reflective graphics are very important when the weather is overcast and rainy because they greatly increase visibility.

Don’t forget your hands and feet. Gloves should be waterproof, have a breathable liner, and be comfortable when you try them on. Gore-Tex fabric is specifically designed with a layered construction to form an impenetrable barrier against wind and water while allowing perspiration to escape. Rain Gaiters are designed to go over your boots and should have a slip-resistant sole.

Stop by the Motorclothes department if you have additional questions and we can help you get ready for those afternoon showers!
