A
Ride
to
Remember |
| Dear
Hog
Members, |
With
2007
model
year
coming
to
a
close,
we
here
at
Superstition
Harley-Davidson
are
getting
excited
about
the
2008
model
year.
The
Harley-Davidson
dealer
announcement
meeting
this
year
will
be
held
in
Nashville,
TN,
July
8th
thru
July
11th.
But
another
exciting
reason
to
look
forward
to
the
2008
model
year
is
because
it’s
Harley-Davidson’s
105th
Anniversary.
That
reminds
me
of
a
story.
As
many
of
you
know
(or
don’t
know)
I
have
attended
the
90th
Anniversary
celebration.
Mark
and
I
attended
the
95th
Anniversary
celebration.
And
we
also
attended
the
100th
Anniversary
Celebration.
Now
by
‘attending’
I
don’t
mean
we
flew
to
Milwaukee
and
shipped
our
motorcycles.
Not
us!
We
rode
all
the
way
there
and
all
the
way
back.
We
also
took
a
friend
with
us
for
the
95th
and
the
100th
Anniversary
ride.
His
name
is
Mike.
One
of
my
stories
is
about
what
happened
on
the
ride
back
to
Milwaukee
for
the
95th
Anniversary.
So
we
met
Mike
early
one
beautiful,
clear
morning
in
June
and
started
our
pilgrimage
back
to
Milwaukee.
Our
first
stop
was
supposed
to
be
Truth
or
Consequences,
New
Mexico.
But
the
weather
was
warm
and
the
sun
was
still
shining
and
we
were
excited
about
our
ride.
We
decided
to
go
another
100
miles.
Hey,
what’s
another
100
miles?!?
So
we
motored
on
down
the
road
and
ended
up
in
Amarillo,
Texas
our
first
night.
We
forgot
about
daylight
savings
time
and
lost
an
hour.
By
the
time
we
found
our
motel
and
walked
to
the
KFC,
they
were
closed.
However,
they
took
pity
on
us
and
fed
us
the
left
over
chicken
that
was
destined
for
the
dumpster.
We
spent
a
miserable
night
in
a
motel
with
paper
thin
walls.
The
lady
next
to
us
was
trying
to
cough
up
her
left
lung
and
the
guys
next
to
Mike
were
partying
till
3AM.
We
woke
up
the
next
morning
at
5AM
dragging
our
tushes
to
welcome
record
cold
temperatures
of
42
degrees.
We
met
Mike
at
the
bikes.
Now
Mike
is
from
Long
Island
and
is
a
funny
guy,
usually.
Mike
never
said
a
word
except
to
ask
Mark
if
he
had
some
warmer
clothes
he
could
lend
him.
Mike
gets
ready
to
go
and
starts
backing
his
motorcycle
up
to
one
of
the
hotel
windows.
We’re
watching
him
wondering
what’s
on
his
mind.
The
road
was
the
other
way.
(We
still
didn’t
know
that
Mike
had
these
party
animals
next
to
him
all
night.)
He
pulls
out
the
choke
on
his
carbureted
Dyna
Lowrider,
cracks
the
throttle
a
few
more
times
and
fires
it
up.
POW!!!
He
then
continued
to
rap
the
throttle
as
he
casually
pulled
on
his
gloves.
Yep,
the
party
animals
were
in
that
room
and
I
don’t
think
they
were
sleeping
anymore.
We
screamed
out
of
the
hotel
and
hit
the
road
before
the
cops
showed
up.
This
was
just
the
start
of
our
awesome
trip.
This
is
just
one
of
the
many
stories
from
our
ride.
And
this
is
exactly
what
riding
a
Harley-Davidson
is
all
about.
If
you
ever
have
the
opportunity
to
ride
back
to
Milwaukee
on
your
Harley
for
any
of
the
Anniversary
Celebrations,
you
must
do
it.
It
is
a
trip
of
a
lifetime
and
you’ll
tell
stories
till
the
day
you
can’t
talk
anymore.

Superstition
H.O.G.
was
There!
Written
by
Bob
Block,
Assistant
Director
It
all
started
Thursday,
May
3rd
when
I
pulled
up
in
the
parking
lot
and
there
were
H.O.G.
members
helping
from
the
get-go,
telling
people
where
registration
was
and
where
to
park.
They
were
a
lot
of
help.
I
lucked
out
and
got
a
room
at
the
host
hotel,
(which
I
will
recommend
to
everyone
next
year).
Everything
was
within
walking
distance.
All
the
restaurants
and
shops
were
biker
friendly
and
ready
to
talk
to
you.
I
really
felt
like
they
put
out
the
welcome
mat.
Thursday
night
they
put
on
an
outdoor
movie
“The
Wild
Ones”
and
had
free
popcorn
during
the
movie.
I
think
most
people
went
to
the
start
up
party
at
Tucson
Harley-Davidson
which
included
a
free
BBQ.
On
Friday
I
worked
as
a
volunteer
in
registration
and
helped
other
H.O.G.
members
get
started,
and
pointed
out
where
everything
was
located,
and
where
the
rides
left
from.
There
were
escorted
rides
that
left
the
hotel
every
hour
mostly
between
10:00
a.m.
and
3:00
p.m.
The
rides
were
led
by
road
captains
from
the
Tucson
and
Sierra
Vista
Chapters.
The
rides
varied
from
short
rides
to
interesting
areas
in
Tucson
to
long
rides
to
Sierra
Vista
and
Tombstone.
There
was
something
for
everyone.
Around
1:00
p.m.
on
Friday,
they
ran
out
of
pins
and
patches
so
they
ended
up
giving
away
2006
bags
instead.
This
was
a
reminder
that
it
is
IMPORTANT
to
pre-register
if
you
want
all
the
goodies.
They
told
me
that
they
could
only
order
a
certain
percentage
over
the
pre-registers
as
far
as
pins,
patches
and
t-shirts
went.
There
were
a
lot
of
people
that
registered
on
site,
therefore
all
the
extra
pins
and
patches
went
early.
Saturday
-
the
last
day.
I
hated
to
see
it
come
except
this
was
going
to
be
the
busiest
day
yet.
With
the
bike
show
and
bike
games
all
inside
The
day
went
by
so
fast
it
didn’t
seem
fair.
There
was
a
lot
going
on
not
only
inside
the
convention
center
but
outside.
The
Tucson
Motorcycle
Police
put
on
a
demonstration
and
I’ll
tell
you,
those
guys
can
really
ride
those
bikes.
A
real
friendly
group
and
they
like
talking
about
what
they
do.
As
far
as
the
games
go,
here
is
a
list
of
the
winners:
East
Valley
-
Joust
Foothills
-
Plank
Walk,
Ride
the
Plank,
Slow
Race
and
the
Wienie
Bite
Tucson
-
Men's
Tire
Toss,
Ring
Toss
and....
Superstition
-
Women's
Tire
Toss
won
by
Laurie
Sherman!!
There
was
a
free
shuttle
to
take
you
around
Tucson.
It
would
have
worked
well
if
you
wanted
to
go
somewhere,
have
a
few
drinks,
and
not
worry
about
riding
back.
There
was
always
something
going
on
somewhere.
Although
there
was
some
miscommunications
on
different
things
and
not
all
the
available
items
were
well
known,
or
well
advertised,
I
think
a
lot
was
learned
and
things
should
be
a
lot
better
next
year.
This
was
the
first
rally
in
Tucson
in
quite
a
while.
They
voted
Tucson
in
for
next
year
as
well.
I
hope
many
more
of
us
will
be
there
in
2008.
It
really
was
a
good
time.
There
were
over
1,300
H.O.G.
members
at
the
rally.

A
Four
Day
Scenic
Ride |
| April
30
to
May
4,
2007
|
|
Eleven
riders
gathered
and
departed
for
a
road
trip
on
Monday,
April
30,
2007
at
7:30a.m.,
it
was
sunny
and
mild.
After
a
quick
butt
break
at
the
AZ188
rest
area
it
was
on
to
the
Nifty
Fifty’s
Diner
in
Pine
for
breakfast.
The
tanks
were
topped
off
in
Clint’s
Well
and
then
a
butt
break
at
Lake
Mary.
Unfortunately
the
restrooms
had
been
demolished
to
make
way
for
new
ones.
Traffic
was
a
little
heavy
in
Flagstaff
but
we
got
through
town
OK.
The
bikes
were
filled
at
the
north
end
of
Flagstaff.
We
stopped
for
a
Kodak
moment
just
after
we
got
on
89A
and
again
at
the
Navajo
Bridge.
Someone
spread
a
rumor
that
they
sold
ice
cream
in
the
gift
store
but
that
turned
out
to
be
totally
untrue.
Damn.
The
day
had
warmed
up
very
nicely
and
short
sleeves
were
good
enough.
In
Fredonia
the
search
was
on
for
a
package
store.
The
riding
order
changed
with
Roger
in
the
lead
and
I
was
second.
I
saw
the
traffic
on
the
other
side
slowing
and
stopping
but
I
didn’t
see
Roger’s
signal
to
slow,
all
of
the
sudden
out
of
the
corner
of
my
eye,
I
caught
the
dog
crossing
the
road
and
locked
‘em
up
missing
the
pooch.
The
heart
was
pumping
real
good
though.
The
hound
sure
took
his
sweet
time
to
cross
the
road.
We
checked
into
the
motel
about
5:00pm.
We
went
as
a
group
for
dinner
at
the
restaurant
next
door,
nobody
complained
about
the
food
so
it
must
have
been
good.
Afterward
we
had
some
beer….
some
hit
the
hot
tub;
others
attempted
to
solve
the
problems
of
the
world,
while
others
turned
in,
a
real
fine
day.
Before
we
left
on
Tuesday
morning
the
sun
was
out
and
we
thought
it
would
be
a
nice
day.
We
ran
into
construction
about
10
miles
North
of
Kanab
and
were
held
up
about
15
minutes
waiting
for
the
pilot
car
to
return.
The
clouds
moved
in
and
it
was
a
little
on
the
cool
side.
After
breakfast
in
Mount
Carmel
Junction
we
headed
north.
After
a
few
picture
stops,
we
filled
up
and
took
a
break
in
Escalante,
UT.
We
rode
part
way
to
Bolder,
UT
and
made
a
U
turn
and
headed
for
Bryce
Canyon.
We
decided
to
ride
all
the
way
to
the
end
and
stop
at
a
few
turn-offs
on
the
way
down.
While
at
the
top
we
wanted
a
group
picture
and
a
kind
lady,
also
a
rider
volunteered,
so
she
was
handed
about
10
cameras.
It
was
a
little
chilly
at
the
top
because
we
where
at
9,115
ft.
After
the
picture
stops
we
filled
at
a
station
that
hadn’t
heard
of
card
readers
at
the
pump.
One
of
the
guys
was
charged
$550.00
for
a
tank
of
gas
–
I
hope
the
credit
card
company
was
able
to
straighten
out
that
oops.
We
arrived
back
at
the
motel
about
5:00pm,
just
in
time
for
cocktail
hour.
Some
guys
decided
to
walk
to
an
Italian
restaurant,
most
decided
to
order
and
have
a
pizza
delivered.
Both
pizzerias
advertised
free
delivery
but
both
had
discontinued
it.
I
went
to
pick
up
the
food.
Upon
returning
with
dinner,
I
saw
the
lady
that
took
our
pictures
at
Bryce
Canyon
was
checking
in.
We
gave
her
a
coupon
that
cut
the
room
rate
in
half.
After
dinner
the
hot
tub
sure
felt
good
to
end
a
real
good
day.
Bellies
were
full,
bladders
were
empty,
and
motors
were
started
at
8:00am
on
Wednesday
for
the
ride
to
Zion
National
Park.
It
was
on
the
cool
side
but
the
sun
was
out
and
looking
like
a
winner
of
a
day.
After
the
first
photo
stop
the
plan
was
to
travel
at
your
own
pace,
stop
as
much
as
you
want
and
we’ll
meet
at
the
West
end
of
the
park.
That
idea
worked
out
very
well.
We
stopped
at
the
Harley-Davidson
dealer
in
Washington,
UT
to
check
out
the
tees.
We
rode
to
Mesquite,
NV,
gassed
up
and
had
lunch.
After
lunch
on
I15
we
were
at
speed
and
a
black
bag
came
off
the
#
9
bike
and
bounced
down
the
freeway.
The
#
10
bike
missed
it
and
headed
for
the
shoulder,
the
tail
gunner
wasn’t
so
lucky,
his
foot
peg
caught
it
and
knocked
it
off
the
road
way.
It
was
a
spare
helmet
that
wasn’t
tied
down.
The
bag
survived
but
the
helmet
wasn’t
so
lucky.
The
wind
had
really
picked
up
and
it
and
was
moving
us
around
pretty
good.
We
passed
a
group
of
riders
with
a
small
woman
in
the
lead
on
a
Sportster
and
she
was
having
a
real
tough
time
battling
the
wind.
The
ride
through
the
“Valley
of
Fire”
Nevada's
1st
State
Park
was
well
worth
the
time.
In
fact,
all
of
the
destinations,
Bryce
Canyon,
Grand
Staircase-Escalante
National
Monument,
Zion
and
Valley
of
Fire
brought
out
the
ooohs
and
aaahs
from
the
crowd.
We
stopped
for
gas
in
Boulder
City,
NV
and
the
attendant
had
trouble
resetting
the
pumps
and
got
the
amounts
and
credit
cards
mixed
up,
all
that
could
be
done
is
bow
and
shake
your
head.
We
made
a
quick
picture
stop
at
the
Hoover
Dam
on
the
Arizona
side.
We
got
to
the
Edgewater
Hotel
about
4:30pm
and
checked
in.
We
all
went
to
the
Riverside
Prime
Rib
Room
at
the
north
end
of
the
Laughlin
Strip,
some
walked
and
some
took
the
river
taxi.
After
dinner
the
hot
tub
got
a
visit
again.
Thursday
8:00am
we
headed
for
a
breakfast
in
Oatman,
AZ,
as
someone
said
you
eat
there
for
the
atmosphere
and
not
the
cuisine,
boy
did
they
hit
the
nail
on
the
head.
It
was
a
little
too
early
for
the
donkeys
to
be
out
so
we
headed
on
down
the
road.
We
made
a
quick
stop
at
the
Harley-Davidson
dealer
in
Kingman,
a
butt
break
about
noon
in
Wikieup
for
gas
and
a
break.
The
last
gas
stop
on
the
trip
was
in
Wickenburg.
It
was
a
great
trip.

Thank
You
for
Your
Kindness |
Tragedy
can
strike
at
any
time
night
or
day.
You
hope
and
pray
it
doesn’t
happen
to
you.
If
it
does,
it
nice
to
know
that
you
have
the
support
of
family
and
of
friends.
The
support
that
we
received
from
our
extended
family
has
been
so
overwhelming,
that
we
have
not
been
able
to
find
the
words
to
say
thank
you.
These
two
words
just
are
not
enough,
but
still
need
to
be
said
to
help
in
the
healing.
So
to
our
family
at
SUPERSTITION
HARLEY-DAVIDSON
and
to
the
SUPERSTITION
H.O.G.
CHAPTER,
the
Harris
family
says
THANK
YOU
for
everything
you
have
done
for
us.
We
will
never
forget
your
kindness.
Dave,
Laura,
Elizabeth
and
Heather
Harris
Note:
In
May,
the
Harris
family
lost
their
home,
belongings
and
one
of
their
pets
to
fire.
Together
the
Dealership
and
the
Chapter
held
a
small
fund
raiser
dinner
that
took
place
at
the
Apache
Junction
Pizza
Hut.
As
Dave
would
say,
"You
must
pay
it
forward."
Their
home
is
in
the
process
of
being
rebuilt
