How to Master the Zen Art of Clean Motorcycling

Like everything else, having a plan really helps. How clean do you want to get it? You can do a quick wash and dry IF you have taken care of the finish before it was dirty. The spray on detail waxes will leave a protective coating that is easier to clean. I always recommend waxing your bike with real carnauba wax once a year. I like the S100 paste wax (99982-96) $15.95 as it doesn’t leave stains on plastic parts like most car waxes do. I am also a big fan of the modern liquid polishes such as my favorite; Ultimate Super Gloss (SUPER GLOSS) $20.99 they really are the only cure to the Black Bike Blues! Help yourself on the road; if you have the room I’d suggest taking a S100 drying towel and a BugSlide Travel Kit (BUG TRV) $8.00 in your saddle bags. The drying towels can get the water off your seat , tank and windshield after a thunderstorm and the Bug Slide is close to magic for ‘dry’ cleaning. The Bug Slide Travel kit gives you a 4 oz spray bottle and a microfiber towel for only $8.00 now the towel is worth almost that!

Yes we would like you to buy some cleaning products, but I really want you to have the right ones as there is so much available now days. Please do not use Windex or any other cleaner with ammonia on your bike! You risk stripping the factory protective finishes. The biggest favors you can do yourself is to use motorcycle products and get a couple (or more) microfiber towels in different colors, I use dark one for applying polishes and cleaners, and light ones for the buffing. I wouldn’t use the car cleaners and waxes due to the high solvent content, and others are abrasive. We carry Genuine Haley-Davidson Cleaning products, plus selected aftermarket items. I will carry only the products I know to be of high quality and a value to you. We also carry the S100 product line, S100 is so good it is the only thing in Harley-Davidson’s catalog that is not their own brand, now that speaks pretty highly of them!

1. Rinse off bike with hose, to get off the loose dirt.

2. Clean the wheels and tires

3. Wash the bike with a bucket of fresh water, some HD Sunwash and a Mitt

1. Don’t set the mitt down anywhere except in the bucket!
