100,000 Foot Ride!
Saturday, 4th of August, 2007!
The 8th annual all-day, 100,000 FOOT COLORADO PASS MOTORCYCLE RIDE for 2007 sponsored by the BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado and Foothills BMW/Triumph Motorcycles.

The BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado and Foothills BMW proudly present their eighth annual all-day 100,000 Foot Motorcycle ride for 2007, an event that is unattainable anywhere else in the United States and maybe the world.

The 100,000 Foot Colorado Pass Ride provides scenic mountain vistas, majestic peaks, wide open meadows, valleys, and beautiful streams for which Colorado has attained its international reputation for world class scenery.

The 2007 route begins and ends in Denver and is approximately 450 to 500 miles over ten mountain passes totaling more than 100,000 feet! Shortcuts will again be available to allow more leisurely-paced riders to select a route that reduces mileage and time requirements (and mountain passes) by as much as 40%.

The ride in 2007 will again follow a loose rally format, although participants will receive directions for the entire route, including the shortcut options, up front at check-in.Route is not given out in advance. Riders will then depart on their own and may be required to pass through check-points throughout the ride. General timing for the entire route will be based on speeds that do not exceed posted speed limits.

Participation includes a commemorative 2007 ride pin, embroidered patch, continental breakfast, catered lunch and dinner, door prizes during or after dinner, and back by popular demand, a commemorative ride tee-shirt! (When registering via PayPal, please indicate tee-shirt size in the comments section.)

Participants may ride in large or small groups at their own choosing in accordance with their own preference as to speed and riding style. Fuel, food and rest facilities are readily available along the route.

All riders and all brands of motorcycles are welcome.

Due to the popularity of this annual ride, the event now regularly sells out . To provide all our potential ride registrants an opportunity to participate registration will open in February, 2007.

Registration forms available at Foothills BMW/Triumph or online at Colorado Beemers.com

Feasting on Asphalt
Saturday, August 4th at 9:00 PM EST
Alton Brown's new season of Feasting on Asphalt premieres on Saturday, August 4 on the Food Network at 9:00 PM EST/PST.

Most of you will know him from previous episodes as a diehard BMW motorcycle owner who experiences local cuisine while riding around the country. Alton Brown and his crew are mounting their steely steeds once again and scouring the American landscape for honest road food.

This time they will trace America's first superhighway: the Mississippi from the Gulf of Mexico to its Minnesota birthplace. Freeways (with their palate dulling sameness) will of course be eschewed in favor of back, side, dirt and forgotten roads and the one-of-a-kind foods, folks and stories to which they inevitably lead.

Episodes continue every Saturday night at 9:00 PM EST/PST on the Food Network. For further information you can go to these links:

Pikes Peak Success!
At the 85th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, BMW Motorrad Motorsport came, saw and conquered with the HP2 Megamoto. American rider Gary Trachy won the new class for bikes up to 1200cc in an amazing 11 minutes and 46 seconds, closely followed by Casey Yarrow (USA, 11:49). US Supermoto star Micky Dymond finished in third place with a time of 11:52, while fourth in the rankings was Gary’s brother, Greg Tracy, who completed the famous hill climb in just less than 12 minutes (11:59).

German endurance star Markus Barth swapped the racetrack for the mountain road and made his debut at Pikes Peak, finishing in a very respectable 12:44, in front of HP2 Enduro riders Gordon Mullavey (13:25) and Max Statton (14:31), who had driven for more than 30 hours from New England, to race at the world famous hill climb.

Thousands of spectators turned up at Saturday’s race to cheer on the brave riders and drivers who attempted to scale the 12.42-mile (20-km) course that begins at 9,390 feet (2,862 metres) and finishes at the 14,110-foot summit (4,300 metres) of the spectacular Pikes Peak Mountain. The first half of the challenging course is asphalt, while the remainder is hard-packed gravel. Following a thunderstorm in the Colorado Rockies, the track was still wet and therefore slippery and tricky to ride.

There was a lot of competition in the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team as to who would be the fastest rider in this ‘race to the clouds’ but there could only be one victor in the 1200cc class and it was Gary Trachy, who also won last year’s event outright:

“I improved my fastest time from last year by a few tenths of a second and in respect of the adverse conditions I am very happy. I had a lot of fun with the Megamoto on this challenging track,” he said.

The overall fastest motorcycle time of the day went to American rider Dave Durelle on a 750cc prototype machine that weighed only 110 kg. At only just over five feet (1.55 metres) tall himself, Durelle weighs next to nothing – in fact, the combination of rider and bike was lighter than the weight of the HP2 Megamoto alone! Durelle had a flawless run and made it to the summit in 11 minutes and 41 seconds – just five seconds faster than Gary Trachy on the HP2 Megamoto. Apart from Dave Durelle and the four American HP2 Megamoto riders, no other bike or rider even came close to the magic 12-minute ascent time.

Pikes Peak 1200cc class results

  • 1. Gary Trachy (11:46.47) – HP2 Megamoto, BMW Motorrad Motorsport
  • 2. Casey Yarrow (11:49.47) – HP2 Megamoto, BMW Motorrad Motorsport
  • 3. Micky Dymond (11:52.30) – HP2 Megamoto, BMW Motorrad Motorsport
  • 4. Greg Tracy (11:59.06) – HP2 Megamoto, BMW Motorrad Motorsport
  • 5. Markus Barth (12:44.7) – HP2 Megamoto, BMW Motorrad Motorsport
  • 6. Gordon Mullavey (13:25.39) – HP2 Enduro
  • 7. Max Statton (14:31.91) –HP2 Enduro
