What
is
XPLOR
exactly?
Think
of
it
as
the
information
superhighway
for
BMW
riders.
It
is
a
way
for
everyone
who
rides
a
BMW
motorcycle
to
know
more
about
the
community
of
BMW
riders
and
what
is
going
on
in
the
world
of
BMW.
From
events
like
track
days,
GS
riders
or
training
sessions
,
or
just
poking
around
on
a
message
board,
everything
related
to
BMW
motorcycles
is
in
one
handy
location.
But
it's
only
available
to
BMW
owners
so
bring
your
V.I.N.
number
to
the
web
site
and
register!

2007
Iron
Butt
Rally
Set
For
August
20th
-
September
1st |
The
bi-annual
running
of
the
Iron
Butt
Rally
is
fast
approaching.
It
will
depart
from
St.
Louis
on
August
20th
and
end
back
there
eleven
days
later.
There
will
be
one
check
point
and
it
will
be
back
in
St.
Louis
five
days
into
the
rally
on
Friday
the
24th.
In
past
years
the
rally
typically
had
four
checkpoints
spread
out
over
the
eleven
days.
For
the
last
two
rallies
there
have
been
several
changes.
In
2003,
it
started
and
ended
in
Denver
with
the
first
checkpoint
being
back
in
Denver
but
a
third
one
in
Maine
before
returning
to
Denver
for
the
finish.
In
2001,
while
there
were
four
checkpoints,
riders
could
leave
from
the
start,
ride
to
Prudhoe
Bay
Alaska
and
back
with
an
opportunity
to
ride
to
Key
West
for
addition
credit.
If
anyone
(and
several
did)
opt
for
Prudoe
Bay
they
could
ignore
check
points
in
California,
Washington
state
and
Maine.
Each
rally
is
now
different
and
we
have
no
idea
of
what
to
expect
except
that
the
top
riders
will
put
in
excess
of
11,000
miles
on
their
bikes
in
the
eleven
days.
One
of
our
own,
Norm
Grills
will
be
competing
in
this
year's
rally.
He
has
been
trying
to
get
in
since
2001
and
was
finally
drawn
for
this
year's
ride.
I
say
"drawn"
because
for
each
rally,
there
is
a
lottery.
Several
thousand
people
send
in
applications
but
only
about
100
get
to
ride
so
it
is
highly
sought
after.
If
you
want
to
follow
the
participants'
progress
along
during
the
rally,
you
can

Butt

Join
The
Coffee
Club |
|
Do
you
enjoy
dropping
into
the
dealership
on
a
Saturday
morning
and
having
a
cup
of
coffee
with
"the
guys"?
Well,
join
the
club
by
bringing
a
mug
into
the
dealership
and
keep
it
on
the
rack
above
the
pot.
If
you
have
a
mug
that
that
has
a
special
significance,
all
the
better.
It
could
be
a
point
of
conversation
some
Saturday.
As
a
bonus,
periodically,
a
customer
will
bring
in
some
some
munchies
like
donuts,
kolaches,
or
if
we
get
really
lucky,
sausage
and
egg
biscuits
(although
those
go
quickly).
So
come
on
in
and
join
the
Saturday
morning
gathering.... |

Customer
Profile |
A
feature
we
are
starting,
concurrent
with
the
newsletter
is
profiling
a
customer
who
is
unique
in
some
way.
It
may
be,
as
in
the
case
of
this
first
profile,
the
customer
accessorizes
his
bikes
in
some
unique
way.
Other
customers
we
expect
to
feature,
likes
to
ride
long
distances
(multi-day
endurance
rides).
Others
might
be
in
the
number
or
variety
of
bikes
they
own
such
as
dual
sport,
touring
and
motocross.
Yet
others
might
like
to
competitively
race
bikes,
either
road,
enduro,
trials
etc.
Whatever
style
bike
ownership
they
participate
in,
they
are
very
enthusiastic
and
somewhat
unique.
Our
first
customer
profile
person
is
Phillip
Baldwin.
Phillip
loves
to
"dress"
his
bikes
up
by
adding
subtle
accessories
such
as
wheels,
mirrors,
handle
bars
or
whatever
else
gets
his
attention.
His
bikes
are
sought-after
by
other
riders
who
frequent
the
dealership
and
know
Phillip
and
the
tastes
he
has
for
"farkeling"
a
bike.
Read
about
Phillip
by
going
to
our
web
pages
and
reading
a
short
article
on
him
and
his
background
in
motorcycling.
You
can

it

Customer
Profile
-
Phillip
Baldwin
Hey
ya`ll,
my
name
is
Phillip
Baldwin.
I
am
somewhat
‘north’
of
55
(years
that
is!)
.
I
have
been
in
sales
and
sales
management
for
the
best
part
of
40
years.
I
am
not
originally
from
Texas,
but
as
they
say
`I
got
here
as
quickly
as
I
could’
-
almost
30
years
ago.
As
a
kid
I
was
enthralled
with
motorcycles
and
in
the
mid
60`s
owned.
at
different
times,
a
Honda
s-65,
Honda
s-90,
CB
450
and
a
BSA
Lightning
650..
I
worked
summers
for
a
motorcycle,
marine,
ski-doo,
chainsaw
store
in
Sault
Ste
Marie,
Ontario.
And
that
“sank”
the
hook
as
they
say.
When
I
started
my
career,
I
stopped
riding
until
1989.
In
1988
I
got
divorced
and
replaced
my
ex
wife
with
a
1989
Harley
Davidson
883
Sportster.
This
under-powerd,
vibrating,
vile
handling,
could-not-stop,
high
maintenance
motorcycle
was
just
like
being
married
again!!
Since
then
I
have
had
the
pleasure
and
good
fortune
of
owning
over
30
motorcycles
in
groups
of
one
or
two
and
sometimes
three.
You
know
the
`drill`
-
I
love
this
bike,
I
can`t
live
without
it,
I`ll
never
get
rid
of
it
,
until
the
next
machine
comes
along
and
steal`s
my
heart,
yada,yada.
I
currently
have
a
“two
at
a
time
limit”
rule.
The
Harley
dealer
made
the
mistake
of
selling
me
a
Buell
in
1994
which
spelled
the
end
of
my
fascination
with
Harleys
and
started
me
down
the
road
of
`performance
road
bikes`.
After
about
3
weeks
with
the
Buell
I
traded
for
a
DucatI
916
and
never
looked
back.
The
last
20
or
so
motorcycles
I
have
owned
since
1995
have
come
from
my
friends
at
BMW
Motorcycles
North
Dallas.
The
list
runs
like
this:
Bimota
-1,
DucatI
-3,
Triumph
-2,
Moto
Guzzi
-1,
MV
Agusta
-2,
and
BMW
-14.
These
great
people,
know
what
they
sell,
how
to
service
and
recommend
the
parts
and
accessories
that
make
sense
or
make
you
happy
or
both
[my
case].
If
you
are
into
all
out
performance
they
know
how
to,
make
it
work
and
lighten
your
bank
account,
trust
me!!
My
current
bikes
are
a
2007
BMW
R
1200S
sport
bike
with
good
touring
capabilities,
and
an
incredible
2007
DucatI
1098S,
that
makes
no
sense
other
than
to
`stun`
you
with
its
outrageous
`superbike`
performance
and
`Italian
styling`.
So,
if
you
are
looking
for
your
first
bike
,
an
additional
bike
or
your
33rd
bike.
Give
this
great
team
at
BMW
Motorcycles
North
Dallas
an
opportunity
to
meet
your
needs….you
will
not
be
disappointed.
Yes,
my
wonderful
wife
since
the
middle
90`s
put`s
up
with
me
and
my
passion
(I
think
she’s
a
keeper!).
Phillip
Baldwin
Ps.
This
dealership
doesn’t
sell
water
craft,
snowmobiles
or
chain
saws
like
my
first
employer
did…..

Project

BMW
North

has
several

who
like
to

with
"farkles",
things
that
they
feel
improves
the

of
the

and
may
improve
performance,
handling,
comfort
etc.
Phillip
Baldwin,
who
is
featured
in
our
customer
profile
in
this
issue
is
one
of
those
people.
A
customer
from
Tyler
is
another.
