New Sounds of Big Twin 6-Speed Transmissions

Harley-Davidson is address questions regarding the sound of the 2007 model 6-speed transmissions. Since there is a noticeable difference between the sound qualities of the 6-speed and the 5-speed transmissions.

º       The sound of the 2007 6-speed transmission is different than of the 5-speed transmission of previous model years.

º       The 2007 6-speed gearbox was designed using a helical design for second, third and fourth gears, a spur design for first and fifth gears, and direct drive for sixth gear, and each type has a unique sound signature.

º       The RPM range on 2007 Big Twins is spread over six gears as compared to the five gears of previous model-year transmissions.

º       For these reasons, the sound emitted from any particular will be different than the 5-speeds.

º       Harley-Davidson has investigated reports about the noise differences and has found no functional issues with the transmission.

The Inaugural “Bash” to benefit MDA/ALS Research

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease is a neuromuscular disorder that depletes valuable voluntary and involuntary muscles.  The disease tears down the muscle so that it becomes inoperable.  The disease is typically diagnosed in the prime of life.  The average age is 54 years old.  There is no “typical” diagnoses or life expectancy with ALS.  The disease ravages the body at different rates; all while the brain is able to function as usual.  The patient becomes captive in their own bodies.  They can think, but without muscle function they cannot do.  The medical equipment alone is astronomical, and the changes to life for the undiagnosed loved ones drastically changes.

MDA is the world’s largest funder of ALS research, and in fact spend more money on ALS research than all other combined.  MDA is a grassroots organization.  MDA receives no government grants, nor does it receive any money from the United Way.  The money raised is from concerned citizens in the areas covered by district offices.

“The Bash” is a first class social event in conjunction with the local Harley dealer, Tripp’s Harley Davidson.  The H.O.G chapter and other concerned citizens in the area will be at the event.  The money raised from “The Bash” will be directly allocated to MDA’s ongoing ALS research.

More Tips for staying cool

Cover Your Legs

Sturdy long pants and high leather boots help protect the legs of the rider and passenger from the heat that naturally radiates from the engine and road surface.

Modular Helmet

A full-face modular helmet with flip-up chin bar prevents wind burn at speed, while allowing air flow during stops.

Make Frequent Stops

When it's really hot, stop frequently and rest either in a shady spot or in an air-conditioned building. this helps keep the body core cool and the mind alert.

Stop Revving It

Revving your engine while sitting in traffic increases heat output. Let the bike idle until you're ready to accelerate.
