New Year's Resolutions Sale

2008 is going to be an exciting year and we want to kick it off right by highlighting 105 years of great motorcycles. The New Year is a time when everyone is making New Year's resolutions and some of those resolutions include purchasing a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. We're going to help our customers and prospective customers keep those resolutions by featuring the Harley-Davidson® 105 Anniversary motorcycles January 1 – February 2, 2008. As part of this relevant and timely campaign, Eaglemark Savings Bank, a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Credit Corp., is offering a limited-time finance offer on 105th Anniversary motorcycles to bring attention to both the bikes and commemorative content.

From January 1 – February 2, 2008, well-qualified customers may be eligible for 1.05% APR for 36 months with a 10% down payment on all 105th Anniversary motorcycles except CVO models.

Wow! It is hard to believe 2007 went by so quickly.  A lot of great things went on in 2007.  One of the biggest things to happen to me personally was the birth of a new grandchild, that was born on my birthday.  What a present!  Also I had a great year racing and traveling the country with the all Harley drags.  2007 also brought us the Texas State HOG Rally and as always the members of the Amarillo Harley Owners' Group stood up to the challenge and put on a fantastic rally.  Speaking for myself and my family, I sincerely appreciate all the hard work that it took to put this rally on.  Even a little rain couldn't damper a great rally.

Now we are into 2008, and I want to welcome a new group of primary officers in our club.  I know they are ready to accept the challenge to make 2008 a great year.  In 2008, our club will be turning 22, our dealership will be 52, and Harley Davidson will be 105.  Come this August, we will have the privilege of having several legs of the cross country ride coming through Amarillo headed to Milwaukee for the 105th anniversary.  So, if you hadn't joined the club yet, or looking for a reason to get involved, or just taking a little time away, now is the time to get involved.  It is a lot of great fun, and it is a great way to meet people and make new friends.

On the business side, if you have been considering a new motorcycle, this is certainly the time.  Now through February 2, 2008, we can certainly get you some great financing on that new 105th anniversary Harley Davidson.

Thanks for your continued patronage on behalf of the Tripp family.

Battery Tender
A Battery Tender is similar to a trickle charger but will not overcharge your battery. This is a must for motorcycles, especially when storing for the winter or for those that don't ride daily.

Batteries in storage will lose up to 50% of their charge in just 12 days! Standard trickle chargers can overcharge and permanently damage the battery. The Battery Tender puts an end to this worry. Connect the alligator clips to your battery terminals, plug it into a wall outlet, and that's it! It will maintain a 100% charge constantly: enough to ensure starting power, but not enough to boil away electrolyte and damage the plates. It even senses incorrect connections and will not charge if the polarity has been reversed.

Though I ride almost everyday I keep the Battery Tender attached to my bike every night. My last two motorcycles have never left me stranded with a dead battery. You can even make it easier to connect by wiring a cigarette lighter socket to your battery, and a male connector to the charger's clips. This inexpensive modification now allows me to charge my bike without pulling the seat off each time.

H.O.G. MEMBERS WON'T "WANT TO MISS A THING"

MILWAUKEE (January 2, 2008) -

Today, the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) announced that legendary rockers Aerosmith and Kid Rock will headline its 25th Anniversary concert at Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, on Thurs., Aug. 28, 2008. The ticketed concert caps the free day-long Club H.O.G. 25 anniversary celebration that coincides with Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary events during Labor Day weekend in Milwaukee.

“Camaraderie of the open road is at the core of the H.O.G. experience, so what better way to celebrate 25 years of H.O.G. history than by riding the world’s best motorcycles to Milwaukee with thousands of your closest friends,” said Mike Keefe, vice president and general manager, Harley Owners Group. “Our event also celebrates the start of the next 25 great years of riding together with H.O.G.”

Only H.O.G. members will have the opportunity to purchase the 40,000 tickets available for the 25th Anniversary concert at Miller Park. Concert tickets go on sale Wed., March 12, 2008, at 8:00 a.m. Central Time (CT) and will be sold on a first come, first served basis, including 6,000 seats on the stadium infield. H.O.G. members can purchase as many as 25 tickets for $25.00 each exclusively via H.O.G.’s members-only Web site, www.members.hog.com.

Helmet Care
Always follow the manufacturer’s directions on caring for your helmet. A helmet should always be handled with care. Dropping or impacting a helmet may reduce it's ability to protect you in case of an accident.

Here are some tips on maintaining your helmet:

  • Follow the manufacturer's care instructions for your helmet.
  • Only use the mildest soap or cleaner recommended. Avoid any chemical-based cleansers. Strong cleaning agents can cause the helmet to decompose and damage its protective layer.
  • Do not drop your helmet on hard surfaces - it could damage the shell or internal materials.
  • Read the instructions about painting, decorating, or applying decals to your helmet. Some plastic compositions can be damaged if painted.
  • Never hang your helmet in a manner that could tear the inner liner.
  • Place your helmet on a flat surface. A helmet should always be placed "pads down", not on it's shell.
Replacing Your Helmet
Depending on the helmet manufacturer, it is recommended to replacing your helmet every 2-4 years. If your helmet is damaged or showing extreme wear it should be replaced. Replacing your helmet every few years is a good idea as its protection may deteriorate with time and wear. As newer materials and helmet designs become available, helmets become stronger, lighter, and more comfortable. All helmets must have the month and date of production stamped on inside according to DOT and federal regulations.
Helmet Styles
Helmets come in many different styles based on the type of riding and preference of coverage.
Half Helmets
Typical of most Harley Davidson helmets are the half style helmets. Sometime called beanie, or shortie helmets, half helmets are a popular choice for those who ride cruisers or want that open feeling while still wearing an approved helmet.
Open Face Helmets
An open face or 3/4 helmet is similar to a half helmet except for having side or ear coverage. This is another popular helmet with cruisers and some models can accommodate headphones used to communicate with a passenger. Half helmets with material or leather neck curtains are still considered half helmets despite the side coverage they provide.
Full Face Helmets
More typically worn by street bike riders and racers, full face helmets provide the greatest protection and are worn by many Harley riders. A full helmet also provides more protection from wind, bad weather, and debris such as bugs and rocks.
Finding the Right Harley Helmet
Aside from selecting the right helmet style, proper fit is extremely important when selecting a Harley helmet or any other motorcycle helmet. A helmet that doesn't fit right impacts your riding experience either by feeling uncomfortable or moving around while you are trying to ride.
Helmet Fit
Buying a helmet based on your hat size or guessing the size (small, medium or large) could result in a helmet that fits poorly. Helmet manufacturers sometimes have different sizing so proper measurement is key to getting the right size.

Luke Christie to serve as 2008 Harley-Davidson and MDA Goodwill Ambassado

MILWAUKEE (January 4, 2008) -

Harley-Davidson and the Muscular Dystrophy Association announce that Luke Christie will serve as Goodwill Ambassador for Harley-Davidson fundraising efforts to benefit the MDA throughout the U.S. in 2008.

Luke, a 14-year-old resident of Due West, S.C., previously served two very active terms as National Goodwill Ambassador for MDA.

Harley-Davidson Motor Co. President and Chief Operating Officer Jim McCaslin said the company is lucky to have Christie as part of the team. “Luke is an amazing young man and we’re looking forward to having him represent MDA at Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary and Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) 25th Anniversary events.”

Through his previous role, Christie participated in several Harley-Davidson events including annual dealer meetings and top Harley-Davidson fundraising events.

In 2008, he will participate in year-long activities culminating with Harley-Davidson’s 105th Anniversary and H.O.G events taking place in Milwaukee August 27-31, 2008.

MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis said Christie is a natural talent for the new position. “Luke has two years of solid spokesperson experience under his belt,” Lewis said. “I know he’ll do great work for Harley-Davidson’s efforts on behalf of MDA.”

Harley-Davidson has been a national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1980 and the Harley-Davidson family of dealers, riders, suppliers and employees has raised more than $65 million for MDA. The funds raised support life-saving research, comprehensive medical care for children and adults with neuromuscular disease and MDA summer camps.
