The Director's Minute
As we sit and wait for the weather to clear and the temperature to rise, we are all thinking the same thing. I will sure be glad when it's nice enough to get on the bike and we can ride. Well, look at it this way. It is closer than you think. After February 15th the chances of bad weather (Snow) are only a 50/50 chance. After March 15th the chance of bad weather (Snow) is we are in the clear. Is that a fact, no, but this is what I have always believed and in most cases held true. It tends to give me a warm feeling that spring is just around the corner.
We have got a lot of planned rides, and if you were not able to attend the meeting, we will have all the information at the next Chapter meeting to hand out and review with you. I would like to commend all of you that became members before the December 31st deadline making you all Charter Members of Lake of the Ozarks H.O.G. Chapter. I am looking forward to the upcoming year so we can all get together and enjoy and learn a little about each other.
When my father pasted away a few years ago, I lost my best friend and confidant. My father raised me from the age of nine after the loss of my mother and had to be Mom and Dad for me. As a young boy I was a bit of a rebel and I remember my dad would be worried sick about me. As I grew older some of that rebel went away and I started my own family, which kept the rebel from popping up. During that time I would talk to my dad about thoughts and ideas to make sure I would get his approval on what ever it was. As I grew older, I would call my dad every Sunday morning just to see what he was doing and to hear that voice of his that had directed me through my life. When dad pasted away Susie and our two sons put my father to rest.
After that there was something missing in my life, my friend and confidant. One day shortly after that I sat down and talked to Susie and told her "I am going to go buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle". At first I think I shocked her, but then explained to her that it was something that I always wanted and something dad would have been worried about when he was alive. I felt that I needed a little bit of that rebel back in my life. I bought my Harley Fatboy about a week later and brought it home. I remember are youngest son Phillip and I going and picking up the bike in a pick-up truck, I was not sure of myself yet so packing it home was the safest thing to do. Susie came out and thought it was pretty, but when asked if she would ride with me her answer was " after you ride awhile I might". Her definition of "awhile" was one year later.
Every time I rode that bike I would get a sensation of freedom like I had never felt before, and when I would be riding by myself I was able to talk to my dad, because I felt my dad was smiling at me telling me everything was OK. That first bike was in memory of my dad and since that time Susie and I ride together every chance we get and the closeness that it has brought us is beyond words. Shortly after buying the Harley Susie and I joined are first Chapter (Ozark Mountain) where we met so many people who like ourselves wanted to be a part of something. That something is Riding and having Fun and gaining forever relationships with others and to keep that little bit of rebel in all of us.
Now as Director of Lake Of The Ozarks H.O.G. my goal is to see you all receive the same benefits I have and enjoy the freedom of Riding and Having Fun with others who have the same thing in mind. I am looking forward to a safe and enjoyable 2008 riding season with you all!!!!!!

Assistant Director's Minute
What a great meeting. It was once again nice to see a great number of you at the meeting. Thanks to Ed and Gary for providing us with some great food. We covered a lot of information on the upcoming events for the year. I hope everyone gets an opportunity to look the schedule over and finds many things that they can enjoy. This schedule of events was created with the members in mind. We want you to “Ride and Have Fun”.
We will have sign-up sheet at future meetings for different upcoming events. It is very important that we get our members signed up for any overnight events by the next meeting. We need to get rooms blocked at the facilities that we will be staying. When you put your names on the sheets, it does not lock you in 100%. If you have schedule changes, we can adjust. We just need an initial head count to make reservations so we have enough rooms saved. If we wait to long, we may end up short.
The information for the chapter challenge was put out as well. This is a new program for us this year so we may have questions. Since none of us have made it to some of these sites and train stations, we may have to make some judgment calls. If you run into something that does not seem to fit, let one of the officers know so we can get it worked out. Each year we are going to be challenged with making it fun and difficult at the same time. I was thinking about replacing the train stations with cemeteries next year. Who knows what we can dream up.
We are going to need some volunteers to make some of the activities happen. Please take a look at the activities and see where you may be able to assist. If you can give us some of your time and assistance, please let Ed or one of the other officers know. The first two activities that come to mind are the Scavenger Hunt on 5 April and the Poker Run on 17 May. If you want to help on these please get with Gary or me.
Looks like a great year of riding and events coming up. I am excited. Hope to see you out there where the rubber meets the rode with the shinny side up.
