Eric's Tech Corner I have been asked to do a short column each month on Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the things we see in the shop. It will cover mostly H-D Twin Cam motors from 1999 and up. If you have questions or comments, pro or con, or something to add, please call or stop by the shop. This month I'd like to talk about battery tenders. Some people have told me that their battery has gone dead even with a battery tender or trickle charger hooked up. The reason this happens is that a Harley battery has to start out with 12.8 Volts dc. A battery tender is not able to recharge a battery, it is only able to maintain a constant charge on a battery. The best way to keep your battery up in winter is to put a full charge on it (12.8VDC) and then put on your battery tender.
