The Director's Minute
Spring has finally sprung and summer is right around the corner. On the days I have been out, I have seen more and more bikes and riders on the road. Part of that is the weather and I also believe the other is the economy and increasing fuel prices. Always ride careful and if you know of a person who is just purchasing a bike and either hasn’t ridden a bike for a few years or never ridden, they might want to look into the Riders Edge program given by several groups within the state. Due to heavier bikes and more cubic inches, these bikes are a little more difficult to handle and hold up.
We are just starting to gear up for a number of events that will pretty well fill up the next few months for Riding and Having Fun. Don’t forget our Spring Poker Run coming up May17, at L.O.T.O.H.D. please help out as a volunteer if you can. Contact Ed Dobson (Activities Director) for the Chapter. Any and all is welcomed with open arms. We also have the run to Dallas to Bone Daddy’s BBQ May 3-4. Join us in a 2-day ride for some of the best BBQ in the country (as per Jack Fleming); it will be worth the ride for this BBQ. We are getting more and more people signing up for the trip to Ark. to the HUB in Marble Falls. This is an event you don’t want to miss out on. Some of the most beautiful rides are in the area we will be traveling and it is a great time to get to know different Chapter Members. If you have not signed up yet and want to contact Jill Mellroy and place your name on the list for a room and a weekend of enjoyment.
Again keep an eye on the calendar for all the events coming up and get out and ride. Remember to check your bike before riding and watch out for the others who don’t watch for us. BE SAFE and have a GREAT MONTH!!!!!

GEC

Assistant Director's Minute
You can tell the weather is getting better. I saw numerous bikes at our recent meeting. With the better weather we can get out more often and “ride and have fun.” Look forward to seeing you out on the roads or here at the shop.
The weather was not all that great but we did have a few members show up for the scavenger hunt. Several of the members did take part and we as well had several hanging out just to help out. We made enough money to cover the prize but that was it. Thanks to Gary for providing some great plaques. He did a great job and those plaques will look great hanging on a wall of a proud recipient. A big thank you goes out to the volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers, the chapter officers came up with a great idea for our volunteers this year. We were going to reward the volunteers with a small patch for each time they volunteered over the course of the year. Instead of that, we are going to place a ticket in a jar with the name of the volunteer each time they volunteer for an event. At the Christmas party, we are going to have a drawing from that jar for a very special gift. Depending on the number of volunteers, we may have more than one special gift. Of course we will continue to have Christmas gift drawings at the party but those gifts will not be as special as the one for the volunteers.
Please keep the upcoming Spring Poker Run in mind. We are going to need members to cover the stop locations (two at each stop), registration (two members), and some cooks for the hot dogs. If you do not want to ride in the poker run, we can use those volunteers to cover cooking or registration. The individuals doing the stops can do the poker run. They will leave prior to the first bike out and cover the stops until the last bike comes by and picks them up to complete the poker run. All you have to do is write the card drawn information on a tally sheet as the riders come through. We really need to make this event a winner. The poker run is a main event for us to raise money for the chapter. This money then goes back into such things as door prizes, Christmas gifts, and food for our events.
Our first I Don’t Work Monday ride was great. It started out a little cold but we managed to make it to Lexington before we turned into ice cubes. It did warm up a little and I think everyone enjoyed the ride. We had six bikes with eight riders. I would be negligent if I did not mention that Linda Horton had one brown boot and one black boot on for this ride. Of course she got our attention throughout the day. Since the weather is getting better, I figure we will get more bikes and riders in the future.

Well, enough for now. Keep the shiny side up……

Secretary's Corner

Secretary
The meeting was called to order by Gary Cuendet. New members and a guest were introduced.
A motion was made to accept the minutes from the last meeting as they appeared in the newsletter. Motion seconded and passed.
Treasurer
Karen gave the treasurers report. The current balance is $548.51.
Safety
Allen Crawley gave the safety presentation. The road conditions this time of year are loose rock, potholes, and dead critters on the road. Allen also had handouts for everyone with the hand signals to be used when riding in a group and an inspection checklist to review before going on rides.
Jill Mellroy reminded everyone that this is a good time to check your helmets for damage. The MSF recommends that you replace your helmet every 3 to 5 years or if it has been dropped or damaged.
Ladies of Harley
Susie Cuendet thanked all the volunteers who helped with the scavenger hunt. The winners were Gary and Carla Fiene and Dennis and Karen Price second place.
Activities
Ed Dobson gave the activities report. The 4/19 ride to Lebanon start time was changed to allow members to ride in the Ozark Mountain chapter’s poker run. The chapter photo on May 20th will be at 7pm instead of 6pm due to several members having to work until 6pm. The monthly meeting will follow at JJ Twiggs. The MDA poker run has been cancelled due to scheduling problems with the MDA group. We still need volunteers for our poker run on 5/17.
Head Road Captain
Bill Lasater requested that anyone planning on going on the rides use the signup sheets to insure that there are enough road captains for a safe trip.
Historian
Historian Jill Mellroy still needs your pictures. You can send them by email to jill@ozarkharley-davidson.com, give them to her on a disk, or a printed picture.
Merchandise
Jill Mellroy had no new items for merchandising.
Dealership
Jack Fleming has a block of rooms for the ride to Dallas on 5/3. If anyone is planning on going and has not signed up you can contact Jack at the Lebanon store to reserve a room. They are planning on 8 to 10 hours to get to Dallas. Jack will be in contact with those who have already signed up for the ride.
Membership
Debi Fleming gave the membership report. We currently have 177 members. She reminded the group that national HOG memberships must be current to be active in the local chapter.
Photographer
Karen Price has an assistant now (Ashley Boston) and they will be taking a lot of pictures.
Assistant Director
Tony Mellroy gave the Assistant Directors report. He thanked the members who rode to Dixon on 4/11 to give a presentation to students in the elementary, middle and high school. We will have a ride on 6/30 to coincide with the National HOG million-mile ride. The details are not yet finalized as to the destination.
Rivets, located at the Museum in Milwaukee, can still be ordered if anyone is interested. You can signup to become a museum founder, which gives you discounts and other items on the HOG web page.
We are starting a volunteer reward program. Each time you volunteer your name will be entered into a pot. At the Christmas party we will be drawing from the volunteer tickets for a VERY nice gift. The more you volunteer the better your chances are.
Director
Gary Cuendet gave the Directors report. Gary introduced a member of the American Legion riders from Sunrise Beach. They will be having a poker run on 6/21 leaving the Post at 11am in a mass group ride. There will be food after the ride. Flyers will be located in the dealership.
The CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) will be hosting a fundraiser for 2 of our members, Gary and Dee Allan on 7/13. More information to follow.
Misc.
The 50/50 was won by Karen Price and was donated back to the chapter.

Door prizes were won by Jim Koby, Casey Fletcher, and Debbie Crawley.

Meeting adjourned.
