On a recent road trip, two out of travelers had a mishap and Northern Colorado BMW / Ducati Motorcycles had the chance to save the day!

From the diary… There is snow melt everywhere. Water is pouring off of the mountains. Sas jumps off of the bike and runs up a stream never even seeing the don't walk sign. Whoops. About half way up we pull over to enjoy the view and ...

Oh no.

At the bottom of the hand guard is a stream of fluid. Words cannot begin to describe Ohno's pleasure. Out come the tool roll. On the R you cannot even see the master brake cylinder because of the hand guards. So off they come. A gust of wind blows the removed hand guard over the edge of the mountain. This just keeps getting better. Ohno climbs over and retrieves it.

A prayer is spoken, "please let the cover be loose." No such luck, dang.

So we are half way up a mountain and our brakes are going out. Not good. It's about 3 o'clock and we head back to Ft. Collins and the BMW dealership.

A little over 45 minutes goes by and Ohno knows that they are in trouble. It's Friday afternoon and if the dealership doesn't have the parts to repair or replace the unit they are going to be stranded in Ft. Collins.

At the dealership Josh in service immediately gets a tech to look at the bike. Yup it needs to be rebuilt. No they don't have the part. The store in Denver doesn't have the part.

It late in the afternoon and they don't think they can get the part overnighted for Saturday. To make things worse they are closed on Monday so the earliest they could have the part is on Tuesday.

About this time, Lynne, one of the new owners of the dealership, overhears our dilemma. And she springs into action. She locates the part and gets it overnighted with a Saturday delivery. At one point she had two phones to her ears. She was bound and determined to make it happen and she did.

Two hours later we had a brand new 1200R between our legs and were heading to Lucky Joe's for dinner. Tomorrow we get some quality time on The 1200R. Saturday breaks and its cloudy.

Sas is not sure if she wants to go back on the mountain. We have to shuffle all of our gear around. Ohno keeps telling Sas they she doesn't want to miss going up to the top. By 9 a.m. we have all of our gear at the dealership and decide to go back to Rocky Mountain National Park. Good choice.

The 1200R has a great engine. She literally will pull from any gear. But don't ask Sas about the rear seat.

So back up 34 we go, again. We got mixed in with a group of about 25 vintage motorcyclists who were out on a run. Sas was so mesmerized by the bikes that she forgot to shoot pictures. They were mostly old Triumphs and Nortons, a couple of Hondas and Harleys, a Ducati and a Velocette! Sas was just giddy riding among them and seeing that old metal fly through the canyon. Still a lot of snow in the mountains. It's getting late so back down 34 we go again. No cell coverage so we can't check to see if the part came in. Sas tells Ohno to press his thumbs as we walk into the dealership. (Pressing thumbs is something you do for luck in Germany.)

Josh in service gives us a smile and says, "Where have you been we've been trying to get a hold of you. The bike has been done for a couple of hours."

And again a big thank you for getting us on the road so quickly.
