BMW
REVEALS
S1000RR
IN
RACE
COLOURS!!
For
the
first
time
BMW
has
revealed
its
S1000RR
superbike
in
race
trim
and
race
paint
scheme
at
the
Cologne
Motorcycle
Show.
BMW
claims
the
1000cc
inline-four
engine
will
kick
out
a
true
190bhp
and
weigh
less
than
190kg
when
it
goes
on
sale
late
in
2009.
That
means
it
will
weigh
10kg
less
than
its
Japanese
competitors
and
produce
10bhp
more
power!
BMW
has
confirmed
the
bike
will
have
ABS
and
traction
control
when
it
goes
on
sale.
While
there's
no
word
on
the
price
yet,
the
company
did
confirm
what
we
already
knew:
the
S1000RR
will
go
on
sale
in
Europe
in
the
Spring.
BMW
also
talked
about
the
cylinder
head,
which
incorporates
very
small,
very
light
cam
followers
that
are
close
to
Formula
One
spec.
It's
also
believed
that
the
S1000RR
will
incorporate
the
company's
Double
VANOS
variable
valve
timing
technology.
These
innovations
serve
both
to
increase
maximum
revs,
torque
and
power;
as
well
as
the
spread
of
torque
and
power
throughout
the
rev
range.
Ruben
Xaus
and
WSB-veteran
Troy
Corser
will
be
racing
the
BMW
S1000RR
in
WSB
for
2009.
In
order
to
cater
for
the
huge
superbike
and
supersports
community,
BMW
Motorrad
has
created
the
www.S1000RR.com
microsite,
which
will
link
to
the
motorsport
section
of
the
international
BMW
website
(www.bmw-motorrad.com)
and
provide
enthusiasts
with
a
wealth
of
information
about
this
exciting
new
chapter
in
the
brand's
history.
Over
the
coming
months,
expect
to
see
exclusive
pictures,
films
and
interviews
with
key
project
leaders
and
riders.
