CENTURY
CAFÉ
RACER
Introducing
the

the
Buell®

A
fearsome

sinister

and
wicked
attitude,
it
pushes
the
boundaries
of
the

This

a

with
a
dominating
1,125

V-twin
for
powerful

in
any

Add
to
that
its
aggressive,

and
you’ve
got
an
experience
like
no
other.

2009 Buell® 1125R BUILT
FROM
THE
RIDER
DOWN
For
most
superbike
manufacturers,
engineering
the
perfect
sportbike
begins
with
a
focus
on
the
machine.
That’s
not
the
case
with
Buell.
For
us,
it
all
begins
with
the
rider.
Take
a
look
at
the
Buell®
1125R.
Everything
on
this
bike
is
there
to
give
you
more
feel,
more
control
and
more
confidence.
It
features
intuitive
handling,
an
ideal
rider
environment
and
a
broad,
predictable
powerband,
compliments
of
the
light
and
compact
1,125
cubic-centimeter
liquid-cooled,
DOHC
V-twin.
It’s
all
there
for
a
reason.
And
that
reason
is
you.

Where
do
we
go
from
here!
The
past
year
is
now
a
blur
of
activities
and
events
which
at
the
time
seemed
so
important
and
relevant
that
each
had
a
life
of
it’s
own.
At
this
point
all
we
can
vaguely
remember
is
the
fact
we
had
a
great
time
and
look
forward
to
doing
it
all
again
as
soon
as
possible.
The
Langley
H.O.G.
Executive
for
2008
are
leaving
some
big
shoes
to
fill
for
the
incoming
2009
bright-eyed
crowd.
Thank
you
is
such
a
small
word;
however
to
the
Langley
Chapter
Executive
departing
their
posts
or
terms
please
know
your
work,
commitment
and
dedication
have
been
sincerely
appreciated
Ladies
and
Gentlemen
–
“Thank
You”
On
with
the
show.
The
next
year
promises
to
be
interesting
for
both
passenger
and
rider,
novice
or
seasoned
vet
as
well
as
the
weekend
bar
hoper
or
long
distance
hard
butts.
Your
2009
Langley
H.O.G.
Executive
will
have
something
specifically
designed
to
fit
your
style.
Monthly
restaurant
birthday
dinners,
bowling
and
wine/chocolate
tours
will
fill
the
off-season
months.
Midweek
rides
and
extended
weekend
rides
to
some
very
interesting
and
unusual
spots
are
in
the
planning
stages.
Life
or
riding
on
a
motorcycle
is
an
adventure.
Riding
with
a
group
simply
heightens
the
enjoyment
of
that
adventure.
There
is
a
difference
between
flying
in
formation
and
riding
in
a
group.
Specifically
there
is
no
need
to
worry
about
interference
from
other
objects
when
flying
in
formation.
Not
so
when
riding
in
a
group.
Group
riding
presents
numerous
additional
challenges.
These
challenges
may
intimidate
the
novice
rider
or
even
perhaps
prevent
the
experienced
rider
from
joining
into
a
group
ride.
Advanced
rider
training
courses
or
just
practice
in
an
empty
parking
lot
with
some
cones
under
supervision
provide
a
great
way
to
gain
confidence
and
prepare
for
group
rides.
Women
discovering
the
joy
of
riding
have
been
increasing
each
year
dramatically.
The
exhilaration
and
feeling
of
pure
freedom
felt
twisting
the
throttle
on
a
Harley-Davidson
cannot
be
described.
It
must
be
experienced.
Many
male
baby
boomers
once
knew
that
exhilaration;
however
due
to
family
or
life
commitments
where
required
to
take
a
40
year
sabbatical.
Those
commitments
have
now
been
completed
and
it’s
“me”
time.
Time
to
regain
those
magical
moments
of
youth
and
carefree
living.
It
is
our
sincere
hope
that
Harley-Davidson
and
the
entire
H.O.G.
family
will
be
a
large
part
of
your
fondest
memories
next
year
when
you
think
back
over
2009.
We
are
a
large
family
with
something
for
everyone.
Ready
to
take
pleasure
to
the
next
level?
You
found
the
spot.
Right
here
with
your
fellow
H.O.G.
members.
Life
is
different
on
a
Harley-Davidson.
Are
you
ready?
I
know
I
am.
I
look
forward
to
our
next
adventure
together.

THE
LADIES
OF
HARLEY
The
Langley
Ladies

have
had
a
very
successful
year
this

I
would
like
to
personally
thank
all
the
members
of
the
Langley

and
everyone
else
who
had
put
so
much
effort,

into
the

We
raised
$1000.00
which
we
donated
to
the
Best

the
Langleys,
along
with
this
monetary
donation
we
donated
boxes
of
new
and
like
new

toys,
diapers
and
mother
needs.
Everyone
was
so
very
generous
and
without
all
of
your
help
this
would
have
been
an
impossible
task.
I
again
thank
each
and
everyone
of
you
for
all
the
support
and
hard
work
that
was
put
into
this
effort.
Keep

This
year
our
Ladies
of

were
very
successful
and
I
would
like
to
thank
everyone
involved
in
making
2008
a
great
year.
During
our
October

two
wonderful

have
stepped

TOURING
TIPS
FOR
YOUR
SPORTSTER
Touring
and
traveling
on
a
motorcycle
are
one
of
the
most
positive
aspects
of
motorcycling.
A
vital
part
of
this
is
making
sure
your
motorcycle
is
well
maintained
and
ready
for
the
journey
ahead.
Quite
often
we
get
excited
about
a
trip
and
overlook
bike
preparation,
a
vital
part
of
getting
ready
to
hit
the
road.
In
this
segment,
we
will
touch
on
a
couple
of
key
items
to
pay
attention
to
when
preparing
for
a
trip
on
a
Sportster.
The
Sporrtster
is
simple
in
its
design
and
most
routine
maintenance
can
be
completed
easily.
For
example:
Oil:
Is
the
lifeblood
of
your
Harley-Davidson
motorcycle.
The
cleaner
the
oil,
the
longer
life
of
your
bike!
All
full
oil
change
(engine,
primary
&
transmission)
should
be
changed
every
8,000
kms
and
the
engine
oil
should
be
changed
every
4,000
kms.
(If
the
oil
starts
to
cook
darker
than
iced
tea....
Strong
iced
Tea!
LOL!)
Spokes:
Over
time
a
laced
or
spoked
wheel
can
loosen
up.
Check
your
spokes
to
make
sure
they
are
tight.
This
can
be
done
with
finger
pressure
or
by
tapping
a
small
wrench
against
the
spoke
to
hear
if
it
sounds
loose.
(If
a
spoke
is
detected
to
be
loose,
it
will
have
a
different
ring
to
it
than
the
other
spokes.)
Tires:
Proper
tire
pressure
is
the
key
to
long
tire
life,
handling
and
fuel
economy.
There
should
be
about
34
psi
(pounds
per
square
inch)
in
the
front
and
36
psi
in
the
rear
tire.
Tire
Tread
is
also
important.
Once
a
tire
tread
depth
gets
too
low,
you
will
have
greater
risk
of
aquaplaning.
Drive
Belts:
Watch
your
belts
for
cracking
and
small
pieces
breaking
loose.
Harley-Davidson's
dirve
belts
are
very
strong
and
under
normal
riding
conditions,
one
can
expect
approximately
75,000-100,000
kms
of
life
out
of
a
belt.
Towards
the
end
of
its
life,
it
will
start
to
weaken
and
fatigue
(like
most
of
us....LOL!)
If
you
notice
some
missing
kogs
or
fatigue
cracks,
your
belts
should
be
replaced.
A
thorough
walk
around
of
your
bike
every
time
you
ride
is
an
excellent
chance
to
get
to
know
your
Harley-Davidson
motorcycle
and
a
chance
to
catch
the
little
issues
before
they
become
BIG
ONES.
Safe
Riding!

Arizona,,
our
theme
song
for
the
ride
became
'six
days
on
the
road
and
I'm
gonna
make
it
home
tonight'!
David
and
I
were
the
only
'2
up'
in
our
group
of
seven
riders,
six
Harleys
which
included
one
trike.
Our
experienced
(to
Milwaukee's
H-D
parties)
leaders
were
Mike
&
Helen
Johnson
of
the
Superstition
H.O.G.
Chapter,
our
south
of
the
border
chapter
as
'snowbirds'.
They
planned
a
scenic
route
on
both
secondary
roads
and
interstates,
with
accommodation
booked
at
each
night
stop,
and
the
dealership
parties
along
the
way.
David
purchased
a
2005
Road
King
Custom
for
this
adventure,
deeming
our
2002
Sporty
1200
XL
custom
better
for
short
rides!
We
rode
part
of
Route
66
in
New
Mexico
staying
at
Tucumcari
shortly
after
Sir
Paul
McCartney
came
through,
same
motel
'The
Blue
Swallow'
Myself,
as
pillion,
I
found
the
Texas
and
Oklahoma
panhandle,
then
Kansas
-
the
'Plains
State'
scenery
very
repetitive,
many
cornfields,
ranchlands
and
huge
feedlots!
And
Nebraska
roads
-
this
was
unanimous
-
really
bad,
with
frost
heaves
(not
fixed),
broken
pavement
and
concrete.
We
all
wondered
where
was
Warren
Buffett
when
you
needed
him!
Riding
into
Iowa
was
a
delight
with
green
rolling
hills,and
river
along
with
those
corn
&
sunflower
fields
and
large
dairy
farms.
We
passed
by
Winterset,
John
Wayne's
birth
place,
and
home
to
covered
bridges
of
Madison
County
1880
theme
for
the
movie
with
Meryl
Streep
and
Clint
Eastwood.
Party
stops
to
celebrate
Harley-Davidson105
Ride
Home
were
Hays,
Kansas
at
Doefler's
Dealership
with
free
BBQ,
great
music
and
an
event
sponsored
by
'Miller
Lite';
Lincoln,
Nebraska,
with
by
donation
BBQ,
live
bands,
and
more
'Miller
Lite';
and
Coralville,
Iowa
(just
outside
Iowa
City)
where
we
were
treated
to
the
best
pulled
pork
on
homemade
buns,
and
Iowa
corn
on
the
cob!
Great
weather
and
all
held
outdoors.
Our
last
full
day
of
riding
to
Milwaukee
was
just
285
miles,
mostly
northeast,
using
highway
151
to
join
up
with
I-94
at
Madison,
Wisconsin.
We
had
already
logged
1,750
miles
in
the
previous
five
days.
Including
a
short
visit
to
the
National
Motorcycle
Museum
at
Anamosa,
Iowa,
passing
by
J&P
Cycles,
we
arrived
to
'Party
Central'
at
Capital
City
Harley-Davidson(R)
Dealership
in
Madison
around
noon.
The
official
ride
into
Milwaukee
was
starting
here,
and
there
were
thousands
of
bikes
in
the
parking
lots
and
beyond
waiting
for
information.
We
lunched
on
the
free
food
and
visited
with
folks
in
line
(for
everything)
then
continued
on
our
way.
Following
I-94
we
had
the
opportunity
to
get
into
the
party
spirit
by
waving
to
folks
gathered
on
the
overpasses
in
anticipation
of
the
motorcycle
parade.
One
of
our
riders,
Bob
Block,
Assistant
Director
of
Superstition
H.O.G.,
grew
up
in
Milwaukee
and
that
evening,
after
checking
into
our
downtown
hotel,
he
lead
us
on
a
walking
tour
of
the
city's
historic
buildings
Dinner
was
at
a
former
'speak-easy'
called
'The
'Safe
House'
and
located
in
an
alley
off
the
main
streets!
We
had
arrived!
Let
the
party
begin!
There
was
Club
H.O.G.
25
at
Miller
Park
Grounds
with
continuous
entertainment,
stunt
riders
and
motorcycle
drill
teams
including
our
own
Seattle
Cossacks,
vendors
and
opening
ceremonies.
Two
days
of
concerts,
H.O.G.
Island,
seminars
at
Summerfest
Grounds
along
Lake
Michigan;
H-D
facility
tours
at
the
Juneau
Avenue
plant,
Miller
Brewing
Co.
was
open
to
bikers
for
tours
and
tastings,
three
Harley-Davidson(R)
Dealerships
with
activities
and
entertainment,
open
houses,
street
parties,
and
the
motorcycle
parade
on
Saturday
morning
through
downtown
Milwaukee.
Local
folks
got
into
the
biker
culture
-
I
met
a
hair
stylist
who
came
out
of
her
shop
to
see
the
bikes
pass
by
(and
she's
done
this
every
5
years!).The
hightlights
for
us:
our
visit
to
the
new
H-D
museum
-
spending
3
hours
inside
well
worth
the
trip,
and
the
final
night
concert
by
Bruce
Springsteen
and
the
E
Street
Band;
he
gave
us
3
1/2
hours
of
great
music
and
no
one
minded
standing
the
whole
time
at
Veterans
Park
on
a
hot
August
night!
It
was
everything
we
had
hoped
for
and
more!
August
31st
riders
were
leaving
the
city,
heading
in
many
directions.
We
were
lucky
to
meet
up
with
Langley
H.O.G.
Chapter
members
Ron
&
Helen
and
Millie
&
Bill
to
ride
into
Illinois
and
Missouri,
spending
two
days
on
the
road
together.
Weather
was
changing
fast
as
the
storms
from
the
Gulf
were
arching
north.
Our
route
was
south
to
Branson,
Missouri
while
the
others
continued
west.
We
had
another
week
of
riding
before
making
Arizona;
total
trip
logging
4,730
miles.
And
very
thankful
to
be
back
safe
after
a
memorable
ride
on
the
Road
King.
