Snowmoble
Maintenance
Tips
to
Ensure
Your
Snowmobile
Runs
Cleaner
&
Quieter
1.
Use
high
grade
oil.
High
grade
oil
burns
cleaners
because
of
its
molecular
consistency,
which
breaks
down
into
harmless
particals.
2.Make
sure
the
engine
is
properly
tuned
to
include
the
proper
carburetor
jet
setting
for
altitude.
A
properly
tuned
snowmobile,
like
an
automobile,
runs
cleaner
and
more
efficiently
because
it
burns
all
of
the
gas
completely.
3.
Change
spark
plugs
at
least
once
during
the
year.
Spark
plugs,
when
used
in
cold
weather,
will
sometimes
foul
and
will
not
completely
burn
the
fuel.
4.
Use
hight
quality
gasoline.
High
quality
gas
has
fewer
impurities
and
results
in
a
cleaner,
better
running
engine.
5.
Always
have
your
snowmobile
inspected
at
Spicer's
at
the
beginning
of
the
season.
Like
an
automobile
that
has
a
low
tire
inflation
that
results
in
poor
performance,
a
snowmobile
with
poorly
tuned
track
system
results
in
the
same
poor
performance
and
higher
emissions
and
noise.
6.
When
driving
a
snowmobile,
use
caution
when
acceleration
and
do
not
open
and
close
the
throttle
on
a
continuing
basis.
This
action
results
in
inefficient
burning
of
the
fuel
and
slightly
higher
emissions
and
sound.
7.A
SSCC
aproved
snowmobiles
built
after
2002
have
SSCC
stamped
and
approved
exhaust
pipes.
Approved
exhaust
systems
have
been
certified
by
US
testing
company
as
meeting
required
standards.
If
you
must
change
your
exhaust
system,
ensure
that
it
meets
sound
standards.

Q.I
own
a
2008
Ski
Doo
600,
I
noticed
a
small
puddle
of
coolant
under
my
sled
the
other
morning.
This
has
happened
twice
within
a
month
span.
I
check
the
coolant
bottle
and
it
seems
to
be
Ok.
I
called
my
local
dealer
and
they
had
no
Idea
other
than
bring
it
in
and
we
can
inspect
it.
As
you
know
timing
is
everything,
I
hate
to
take
it
to
the
dealer
and
not
have
it
so
I
can
ride.
Any
thoughts?

Hello
Dan,
Just
today
we
had
a
BRP
team
tip
meeting
and
this
exact
issue
was
brought
up.
The
information
we
have
from
the
manufacturer
is
that
they
know
the
problem
does
exist.
We
have
seen
a
few
sleds
with
this
problem.
I
have
not
seen
any
consistency
with
the
machines
we
inspected.
We
are
told
to
inspect
the
coolant
hoses
for
any
abnormalities
and
replace
them
with
a
different
style
clamp.
This
can
be
an
easy
repair.
Call
our
Service
department
and
ask
for
a
same
day
appointment.
This
way
you
can
get
back
on
the
trail
and
enjoy
the
rest
of
the
winter.
P.S
always
check
your
coolant
level
before
heading
out.
I
will
post
something
about
this
in
our
Trail
Blog
in
the
future.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Ski

We
are
getting
a
few
calls
on
2009
model
Ski
Doos
with
mysterious
coolant
leak(s).
The
manufacturer
suspects
that
the
leaks
are
originating
from
coolant
Clamp
connections,
Which
are
very
difficult
to
find.
They
are
currently
working
on
a
solution
and
should
have
a
remedy
soon.
Always
make
sure
your
coolant
level
is
topped
off
before
any
riding.
This
is
a
good
rule
of
thumb
anyway.
If
you
are
experiencing
this
on

than
two
occasions,
please
call
your

Why
Now
Is
The
Best
Time
To
Buy
A
Boat
By
John
L.
Stein,
Boating
Life
Magizine
|
 |
What
you
see
in
this
picture
is
real.
The
photographer
didn't
instruct
the
boy
to
lift
his
eyebrows
skyward
and
give
a
hearty
laugh
while
jumping
off
the
back
of
the
boat.
This
kid,
his
mom
and
their
friends
in
the
boat
were
simply
doing
what
came
naturally
when
the
shot
was
taken:
having
a
blast.You
cannot
sit
on
the
fence
and
have
this
much
fun.
You
either
get
into
a
boat
or
…
sit.
And
there
is
real
wisdom
in
buying
one
while
the
economy
is
bouncing
off
the
sandbar.
That
reason
is
leverage.
In
boom
times,
customers
have
to
stand
in
line
for
the
boat
they
want
—
and
pay
the
price
the
dealer
wants
for
it.
But
step
into
any
boat
showroom
this
winter,
and
you'll
see
just
how
far
that
same
dealer
will
go
to
earn
your
business.
Here
are
a
half-dozen
compelling
reasons
why
you
should
do
it.
1.
Deals
to
Die
For
The
financial
principal
of
supply
and
demand
means
that
when
the
economy
is
in
flux,
there
are
screaming
deals
to
be
had.
And
that's
exactly
the
case
today.
Dealers
are
anxious
to
move
new
boats
to
escape
the
monthly
finance
charges
on
unsold
inventory.
2.
Boating
ISN't
a
Dirty
Word
One
of
the
great
human
characteristics
is
compassion.
Which
is
why
t
might
make
us
feel
a
little
bit
guilty
to
be
out
washing
our
new
20-foot
bowrider
on
a
Saturday
morning
while
the
repo
man
pounds
foreclosure
signs
into
the
neighbor's
bluegrass.
But
our
good
conscience
is
not
actually
feeling
guilt
in
this
scenario,
says
California
psychologist
and
True
North
Leadership
founder
Dr.
Relly
Nadler.
"Guilt
is
not
an
emotion,
it's
a
predicament,"
he
explains.
"If
you
want
to
buy
a
new
boat
but
worry
about
if
you
can
afford
it
or
what
the
neighbors
will
say,
you
can
solve
it
through
a
rational
decision-making
process."
In
other
words,
work
through
the
guilt
by
determining
that
it's
affordable,
and
then
maybe
invite
your
struggling
neighbors
out
for
a
ride.
You'll
all
feel
better
for
it.

The
heart
of
the
new
Sea
Doo
GTX
iS
is
iControl,
a
computer
that
integrates
a
number
of
functions
on
the
boat,
enabling
features
like
Intelligent
Brake
and
Reverse
(iBR).
The
braking
system
works
like
the
reverse
thrust
used
to
slow
a
jet
aircraft
on
landing.
You
pull
on
the
brake
lever
on
the
left
handlebar,
and
the
iControl
throttles
back
the
engine
for
a
split
second,
directs
an
electric
motor
to
drop
the
reverse
bucket,
and
then
reapplies
the
throttle
to
create
reverse
thrust,
which
slows
the
boat
dramatically.
To
keep
the
rider
from
being
pitched
over
the
bow,
the
engine
is
limited
(by
iControl)
to
3500
rpm
when
the
brake
is
applied.
That's
enough
power
to
reduce
stopping
distance
from
55
mph
by
33
to
50
percent,
compared
to
a
GTX
with
no
braking
system.
If
you
simply
grab
the
brake,
you
will
get
wet,
as
a
wake
of
water
washes
over
the
cockpit
as
the
bow
dips
on
deceleration.
But
like
brakes
on
any
other
vehicle,
the
iBR
can
be
modulated
at
the
lever,
and
offers
enough
control
that
you
can
avoid
the
dousing
if
you
like.
This
brake
lever
also
controls
the
reverse
function
on
the
GTX
iS.
When
you
start
the
boat,
the
system
defaults
to
a
"neutral"
setting
that
really
works.
There
is
no
forward
or
reverse
thrust,
so
there's
no
need
to
have
the
GTX
iS
pointed
towards
open
water
before
pushing
the
start
button.
Touch
the
throttle,
and
iControl
selects
forward
thrust.
Flick
the
brake
lever,
and
iControl
selects
reverse.
Flick
the
lever
again,
and
you
are
back
to
neutral.
All
this
happens
without
the
driver
taking
his
or
her
hands
off
the
handlebars,
or
even
looking
down.
