INTRODUCING ...THE ALL NEW K SERIES

The K bikes have always stood for high speed stability, long distance comfort, roomy ergonomics and smooth riding experience. For 2009, BMW has reengineered their ultimate range of motorcycles with several key improvements, including even more power that’s noticeable where it matters the most, in the midrange and overall smoother engine response, improved transmission and even more robust clutch. The new K 1300 S and K 1300 GT now sport a 150cc increase in displacement to a full 1293cc.

The list of enhancements is staggering and the response from both the Press and the owners of the K1300 bikes has been just stellar so far. “The K 1300 S a genuine leap forwards,” says Superbike magazine. New owners are commenting about a much more refined riding experienced with silky smooth transmission and throttle response.

There is more good news for the buyers of the BMW K1300. Even though the K bikes are immensely improved, their price has not increased for the new models, and you can now deduct the sales tax on all BMW bikes from your 2009 tax returns. (Please see related story from the AMA below.)

Finally, a sport bike whose odometer performs too. The K 1300 S is faster, with better pick up, smoother transmission, lighter clutch pull, and more refined ESA II. The handling has also been improved thanks to a new lighter lower trailing arm on the Duolever front suspension.

• Optimized, shaft drive with a new, two-stage drive shaft.

• New generation of innovative universal switches and controls with optimized ergonomics.

• HP Gearshift Assist for shifting up without the slightest interruption of power and traction, available as an option. K 1300 GT: This private jet has wheels, not wings. The most sophisticated motorcycle on the planet and winner of Cycle World’s best Sport-Tourer two years in a row has been upgraded for 2009, with more power that’s specially tuned for superior midrange torque, new clutch and transmission, improved ESA II and more.

• Even more traction and pulling force, particularly at low and medium engine speeds, through the increase in engine capacity.

• Optimization of the emission system through new mufflers and a fully-controlled three-way catalytic converter.

• Desmodromic operation of the throttle for even better and more precise FI response.

• Optimized, shaft drive with a new, two-stage drive shaft.

• Even greater driving precision and optimized response combined with maximum riding stability ensured by the improved Duolever front-wheel suspension complete with a newly designed lighter lower longitudinal arm.

• New generation of innovative universal switches and controls with optimized ergonomics.

• Integral ABS (semi-integral) featured as standard for a high level of active safety.

The new K 1300 S and K 1300 GT seem to have fired up the UK Press already, as they were one of the first countries to put these hot new BMWs to the test.

“The more miles we racked up, the more the K 1300 S impressed. The new ESA II suspension lets you use more of that power. On the S, when you switch it into 'Sport' mode, the feedback from the chassis, and feel for what the tires are doing is unprecedented on a BMW.” - Superbike Magazine

“Don't let the familiar appearance fool you--the numerous, seemingly small changes to the BMW K 1300 S amount to a seriously improved machine over the outgoing model. The engine is brilliant and the K 1300 S is fast, comfortable, practical, good looking, and will handle anything thrown at it. Despite being pushed very hard over two days with loads of stop-start riding for photos, all of the launch K bikes were averaging no less than 40mpg.” - MCN Magazine

“On the GT in particular, the performance is simply staggering on a bike of its size. On the GT, the [ESA II] 'Sport' setting lives up to its name, and you can corner incredibly hard, dragging your knee without even scraping the foot pegs. So the K1300's have incredible engines, even sharper chassis setups, and a host of other natty improvements. They've even got 'normal' indicator switches, which work beautifully.” - Superbike Magazine
