Welcome to the new look for the MotoSport Plus newsletter! We hope you like it.

With spring starting to get into full swing, now is the time to get your motorcycle out of storage, dust it off and start the procedure towards getting back on the road. If you store your bike with us, then it will be ready to ride when you pick it up, otherwise, here are some tips to help you.

1. Start with a good wash and polish.
2. If the battery was removed, re-install it or put it on charge.
3. Check your tires and tire pressure and also be sure to check for cracks in the tires.
4. Inspect the brake fluid, coolant levels etc. Add as necessary
5. Turn the ignition and start your bike. Check the headlights, both low beam and high beam. Sound the horn. Check your turn signals; both front and rear. Does the license light work? Make sure the rear brake light illuminates when the brake lever or brake pedal is depressed.
6. Make sure you have valid, up to date motorcycle insurance and stickers on your plate!
7. Most importantly, get used to being back in the saddle before hitting the open road.

But, it’s not just your motorcycle that should be checked before the season begins. Make sure that your motorcycle helmet is still up to the job, is comfortable and offers full vision. For example, any badly scraped or damaged visor or faceguard should be replaced with a new one. Did you know that your helmet needs to be replaced every 3 – 5 years?

Check your eye protection for scratches and rubs to the lenses – a good quality riding goggle with transitional lenses is the best overall choice for motorcycling.

If you have heated gear or raingear, make sure that they can still do their job – no rips, wiring intact, etc. What's more, ensuring that you have full body protection is also vital. Wearing appropriate leathers and over the ankle riding boots will offer the best protection.

So, as well as preparing your bike, prepare yourself and be ready to have a great biking season!
