More Power

When we remove sound baffling, smooth curves and enlarge exhaust system diameters we decrease restriction. Think of force a large object through a small hole- the hole provides resistance. Enlarge the hole however, and the resistance falls. This is the basic reason an engine will make more horsepower- usually 4 to 10 more on the top and sometimes as much as 15 in the mid-range. This is the kind of power increase that will rocket you out of corners, save you gas mileage and make a loaded down motorcycle tackle the canyons with aplomb.

Better Looks

Looks are in the eye of the beholder, and there are a few common materials and finishes used in aftermarket exhausts. Aluminum, Carbon Fiber and Titanium each have their fans, and they are all gorgeous. The materials are also crafted into forms more pleasing than stock. Attention to detail, finish and shape all contribute to great looking parts on a vehicle where it counts most!

Sound

The sound of aftermarket exhausts is usually louder and sometimes controllable through removable baffling- you control the sound level. A Ducati at full throttle is something of an art form however, and should not be muffled! You can really hear the motor making power, BMW or Ducati and it sure is enjoyable.

Upgrading your exhaust is quick and easy. The benefits are in plain view to be seen, heard and felt. In almost all cases they will not void any manufacturer’s warrantee, usually the exhausts have one of their own. And, most importantly, they are fun- maybe it’s time to make your riding even better than it is!

Fall is my favorite time of year for many reasons. You can ride with all of your safety gear at a comfortable temperature and the changing colors of the leaves add another dimension to the spectacular mountains we ride in. But one of the most exciting parts about fall is the new motorcycles! Fall marks the time when the next year’s models start coming available and we all get to see them for the first time.

This year is no exception, there are some great new additions to the Ducati line (S2R 1000) and a new BMW on the showroom floor, with more to come this spring. Over the years I have had the opportunity to witness the full range of new models from many manufacturers and have become a little jaded. Being in the motorcycle industry for more than ten years, bold new models tend to be less bold and new in a way similar to the decreasing glamour of birthdays as we get more of them. But something grabbed me this year, a new model that really got me excited. I mean it REALLY has my blood flowing.

The new BMW HP2 Enduro!

I have appreciated the BMW dual sport bikes for several years and this bike is amazing. It is such a radical departure from a traditional BMW dual sport, and shifts the purpose towards the dirt. When we got our HP2 in, it begged me to ride it. Who am I to not answer the call of a new motorcycle; especially a rare, exotic dirt bike like this. When I returned from a very brief ride the adrenaline shake was in my hands, just like when I got off my first motorcycle ride. This big bike responded like a true, lightweight dirt bike and was so fast. Fast on the pavement and very fast on the dirt. WOW! Rarely is something more exciting than one imagines it, especially after months of glorified thoughts. This bike blew me away!

The excitement generated by motorcycles is a consistent attraction, but every once and a while one will grab your attention. REALLY grab you. I am convinced there is a bike for everyone, a motorcycle that can stir your soul and challenge your perceptions of what a motorcycle can be. Those who have had that experience know exactly what I am talking about. If you haven’t had your soul stirred in a while, come over to the shop and let us help you with a little ‘cycle therapy’.
