August 2009 Newsletter

The Director's Minute
G’Day Mates,
What a great turn out for the July gathering and ride. A big welcome to all the new members, I apologize for not being prepared, remind me the next time we meet. Thanks to Jim for cooking up the chow for us. The weather was great and after the gathering we took a ride to Alley Springs. 11 bikes and 15 riders took the journey down to Shannon County. I have to say it again that the weather was just perfect, about 75 degrees and partly cloudy, just a beautiful day to ride. Thanks to everyone who joined us and to those who didn’t you missed a great ride. That brings me to the Pack your Lunch ride. It was cancelled due to the rain that came in that day. If there is interest in rescheduling, please let me know.
As I promised last month, here is a report on Club HOG OKC. Tony, Dennis, Bill & Karen and I rode Route 66 from just east of Joplin all the way to OKC. What an adventure! There isn’t really much to see, but just to be on the Mother Road was an experience. We actually rode about a 2 mile portion that was no wider than a trike and was in a state of disrepair. The heat was tremendous, reaching about 107 on Friday. There was so much to do at the rally; I don’t think we caught it all. The highlight was getting to meet Willie G, Nancy, and Bill Davidson and get Willie Gs autograph on my vest. Kansas performed as well as Leann Rimes. There was plenty of vendors, food, drink and bike stuff galore. We saw many members, ole friends and meet a few new ones. On Saturday morning, most of those from our chapter rode in the parade and JR and Anne represented us by carrying our chapter flag and receiving the streamer. THANKS! All in all a great trip with great friends and great riding. I look forward to the announcement for next years rally so the planning can begin.
I know what you are gonna say, It’s only August, but it is that time of year to begin thinking about officer nominations and elections. The officer positions are not hard to do and you get out of it what you put into it. The sponsors are always there to assist you and the past officers will do the same. Having done this for four years now, I believe it is time for someone else to take over and lead the chapter on its next journey. If you are interested or know someone who is interested, here’s the reminder that we begin taking nominations at the September gathering and will hold elections at the November gathering. It is a lot of fun and to see the fruits of your labor in the membership’s eyes and the accolades they give is fantastic.
We have plenty of rides and activities scheduled, check the website at www.ozarkharley-davidson.com for updates and all ride and event info. The new orange refrigerator calendars are out, you can pick one up at the dealership or at the next gathering.
I will make one last plug for the weekend touring ride to Marble Falls, AR, 21-23 Aug. The Hub Motorcycle Resort has told me they will not take reservations from any other group till 1 Aug, so get your reservation in early. Another important point is the ride sign up roster. The Road Captain needs to know how many are going to plan gas and lunch stops and to determine if more Road Captains are needed. Ron Gentry has the sign-up roster. See him at the next HOG Gathering, send him an email or give him a call. This is a great time with other members of this chapter and the Lake of the Ozarks Chapter. The Hub Motorcycle Resort can be found at www.hubinfo.com, the phone number to make reservations is 800.597.9963. There will be two groups leaving the dealership, one early and one late on the 21st. Check back for actual departure times.
The latest name badge order has been started and there are five names on it. Remember, we have to get to 12 to place the order, so please be patient. Contact Brian at huskers7071@hotmail.com or Melissa at melissa@ozarkharley-davidson.com to get your name on the list.
Mark your calendars for 18 October and the Annual Road Kill Picnic. We still need a chairperson for this event. Not hard, just the organizing and execution. We will take our chapter photo that day too, so wear your chapter shirts.
The fall poker run will be upon us before you know it, Guy has stepped up to chair that, give him all the support you can.
Our next gathering is August 16th at the pavilion behind Ozark Harley-Davidson at 11am. There is a scheduled ride to the Truman Lake Visitors Center and as usual our sponsor will be cooking hotdogs and hamburgers.

May The Force Be With You,
Yoda
