September 2009 Newsletter

The Director's Minute
Aloooooooooooooha,
I don’t like to be the bearer of bad news but we had an accident during our ride after the August gathering. She is fine and I have been told she is already looking at new bikes. I want to publicly thank all the members for their action immediately following the accident. All of you took the right steps in securing the accident site and taking care of the downed rider, the traffic and each other. What a great bunch of folks. Even though we took the right steps, we should all be mindful of the procedures to take if someone has an accident. I won’t go into them here, but it will be added to Road Captain training and our Group Riding Seminars.
I had been pushing the Marble Falls Touring Ride the past couple of months and this will be the last time you hear about it. We have returned from another fantastic weekend at the Hub Resort. The weather was great; highs in the upper 70s and sunny. Twenty of us from both chapters enjoyed each other’s company, the wonderful hospitality of the staff at the Hub and a great ride on Saturday. I had been dying to take that ride since we got rained out last year and it was well worth the wait. If you want to test your riding skills take that trip or frankly any riding adventure with the chapter. Thanks to everyone who went and for their patience in the u-turns. If we ever go back there again in mid-late August, remember that you cannot make the ferry from Waynesville if you leave at 5:40. Ask me how I know.
We still have plenty of rides and events going on, September and October will be busy months with the Ozark H-D Open House, Missouri State Rally, Bikefest, Bikes, Blues & BBQ, our make up ride to Truman Lake, Swap Meet, Fall Poker Run, Changing of the Leaves Ride, and my favorite The Road Kill Picnic. All the details of these are on our sponsor’s website at www.ozarkharley-davidson.com.
Our Annual Road Kill Picnic is on 18 October and Tammie has volunteered to chair this event. Please contact her to sign up to bring a side dish. We will also take our chapter photo that day too, so wear your chapter shirts. 2010 Officer nominations begin at our September Gathering. If you or someone you know is interested in this fun filled and rewarding experience, nominate them or have someone nominate you. I can promise you will not regret it. Elections will be in November.
Ozark Harley-Davidson will hold their 11th Anniversary Open House on Saturday September 5th. We will have a booth with H.O.G. benefits information, pictures of us Riding and Having Fun and other general H.O.G. information. If you would like to work a couple of hours in our booth, please contact me soon. We need a few volunteers to get the word out on what we do and why we do it.
Our next gathering is September 20th at the pavilion behind Ozark Harley-Davidson at 11am. The scheduled ride is to the Truman Lake Visitors Center.

See ya at the State Rally,
May The Force Be With You,
Yoda

Pics from the Marble Falls
So happy that we made the ferry on the way home, since some of us missed it on the way down. :)
Thanks for the big fire Dennis. :) Great night of sitting around visiting with wonderful friends.

From Your Assistant Director
Hey y'all,
Is it just me or did the summer fly right on by? Although we did a lot of riding to a bunch of places and events, there was more we wanted to do. Isn't that the way it is? Even though the kids are back in school, the fun is not over! In September we have the Missouri State Rally, Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest, Bikes Blues & BBQ, our chapter gathering and a chapter touring ride. October brings our Fall Poker Run, Oklahoma State Rally, Changing of the Leaves ride and Roadkill Picnic. These are just a few of the events that will be going on. Try to get to some of them f you can.
Those who are doing ABCs of touring you have until December to complete them. Your photos must be postmarked by Dec.31,so you have time to gather more points. You only need 26 points for a pin so go for it!
This years Bikefest fundraiser was to be a quilt made from bandanas. Since we did not get enough bandanas, it is a wall hanging or a throw or could be an event pin holder. It is completed and ready. Be sure to see it and buy chances to win it. No one else will have one.
Oh by the way, if you buy a new Harley motorcycle, the tax you pay is deductible, on income tax form—food for thought?
That's all for now I've got to wash our bikes so we can start a new bug collection. Be happy and ride safe!

Ozark Harley-Davidson Open House
Please come out and help support our sponsoring dealership at the Ozark Harley-Davidson Open House. This will be held on Saturday September 5, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. We would like to have a booth up in the parking lot for a membership drive and information for our current members or anyone who might be interested in joining the chapter or learning more about what we do. If you could volunteer your time during this event, please contact Brian Black at 573-586-7221 or huskers7071@hotmail.com.

Thanks :)

A Note From One Of Our Members
FYI - myself and 2 guys I brought to the last Chapter meeting will be meandering over to the state rally the morning of the 10th.

Here's our tentative itinerary:
0630 - Meet at my house in Crocker
0700 - 0800 - Ride to Vienna (17N to 42E) and have breakfast at a really good small cafe at the intersection of 42 and 63.  0800 - 1000 Ride to Herman (42E/50E/Hwy W/19N).
1000 - 1100 - Check out a couple wineries and the historic section downtown
1100 - 1200 - Lunch at Montaques BBQ or the Hermanhoff Winery in Herman (or somewhere else if it looks better.)
1200 - 1300 - Ride to Bourbeuse Valley H-D (scenic ride 100E/Hwy M)
1300 - 1400 - Check out the store and look for some deals.
1400 - 1600 - Ride to St James (Hwy AT/100E/109N/I-64 W/94E)
1600 - Check in at Hotel-Embassy Suites.
We're not nearly as structured as this might plan might seem.  All times are adjustable as we travel.  We're just gonna see some scenery and sightseeing and enjoy turning this into a full day ride instead of thundering straight there.  If there you or any others who want to do the same, please feel free to give them my email or cell (573)337-0537.
v/r,
Ty Ramey
