DIRECTOR’S
CORNER
The
summer
of
2009
will
go
into
the
record
books
as
having
the
most
sunshine
and
the
least
amount
of
rain
for
the
past
ten
years.
That's
for
the
Lower
Mainland
and
the
Southern
Interior.
Now
if
you
happened
to
venture
to
Sturgis
with
the
baseball
size
hail
stones
or
the
National
H.O.G.
Rally
in
Calgary
with
near
freezing
temperatures
and
bone
chilling
prairie
winds
-
your
rain
gear
was
pressed
into
action
on
a
couple
of
occasions.
Weather
is
just
a
part
of
our
life
on
the
road.
Incidents
are
always
more
interesting
to
recall
than
routine
events.
Sooner
or
later
all
elements
will
present
themselves.
Now
aren't
you
glad
you
bought
new
rain
gear
this
spring?
Soon
we
will
be
receiving
a
lot
of
information
regarding
how
to
properly
care
for
and
store
our
prized
rides
to
survive
the
winter
season.
The
folks
back
east
are
amused
by
the
fact
the
majority
of
riders
in
the
mild
west
choose
to
ride
when
the
temperature
drops
below
freezing.
Insurance
is
normally
twelve
months
of
the
year.
Considering
most
riders
trade
their
bike
every
six
years
-
with
the
number
of
kilometers
varying
greatly
-
the
cost
difference
(amount
allowed
for
the
trade)
is
not
generally
much
different.
Divide
the
number
of
kilometers
on
the
bike
by
the
cost
difference.
This
gives
you
a
cost
per
kilometer
of
riding.
Now
you
have
solved
the
winter
storage
problem.
Keep
the
big
wheels
turning.
Twelve-month
plates
are
also
the
least
expensive.
Enjoy
the
sunny
winter
days
with
no
need
to
winterize
-
who
cares
what
the
neighbours
think
-
kick
stands
up!

TIPS |
Taking
Care
of
Your
Leather
Bags by
Rose |
1.
Always
follow
instructions
on
the
container
that
you
choose
to
use. Never
second
guess
the
manufacturer's
user
instructions.
If
you're
not
sure
how
to
use
a
product
give
the
manufacturer
a
call
and
discuss
its
uses.
Use
a
high
quality
cleaning
solution
when
selecting
your
product.
2.
To
keep
your
leather
saddle
bags
in
top-notch
condition,
make
sure
and
condition
them
often.
It
takes
a
little
elbow
grease,
but
it
will
pay
off
in
the
end.
Again,
purchase
only
leather
approved
conditioners,
as
petroleum
by-products
will
eventually
destroy
your
leather
saddlebags.
3.
You
may
polish
your
leather,
but
over
time
polish
can
and
will
clog
up
the
pores
of
the
leather
making
the
leather
dull
and
luster
free.
4.
Water
repellant
and
protector
is
a
must.
Silicone
spray
will
help
keep
down
the
watermarks
and
spots.
There
are
other
water
protectors
on
the
market,
but
again
READ
&
FOLLOW
manufacturer
instructions.

A
DAY
WORTH
WAITING
FOR. |
| By
Jon
Jenkins |
It
was
March
2008
when
I
decided
to
make
my
dream
come
true
and
get
the
bike
I
had
always
wanted.
Yes,
a
Harley-Davidson.
I
had
been
riding
motorcycles
all
my
life,
from
dirt
bikes
to
sport
bikes,
and
eventually
a
cruiser.
My
wife
never
was
much
of
a
motorcycle
enthusiast
and
preferred
that
I
did
not
ride
again.
A
life
altering
experience
occurred
resulting
in
my
decision
to
live
life
to
the
fullest,
which
meant
getting
back
onto
two
wheels.
I
bought
a
Harley-Davidson
without
telling
her,
again
taking
my
life
into
my
owne
hands.
Paperwork
complete,
I
went
home
to
wait
for
the
big
moment.
"What
are
you
doing?"
my
wife
asked.
"Nothing!"
I
replied
and
continued
to
stare
out
the
front
window.
Not
long
after
I
saw
the
Barnes
Harley-Davidson(R)
Buell
truck
approaching,
I
jumped
up,
ran
outside
and
waved
at
the
driver
as
he
pulled
up
in
front
of
my
house.
The
doors
to
the
trailer
oepned
and
there
she
was,
a
2008
Fatboy.
How
cool
is
that?
The
driver
wheeled
my
baby
out
of
the
trailer
and
onto
the
driveway.
I
glanced
up
seeing
the
curtains
move
in
my
neighbour's
window.
A
wave
and
two
thumbs
up
--
I
felt
great!
Not
quite
the
same
reaction
from
the
neighbour
across
the
road.
My
neighbour
smiled
-
his
wife
frowned.
Oh
well,
you
can't
please
them
all.
My
wife
came
out
to
see
what
I
was
doing.
The
look
on
her
face
was
something!
"What
the
hell
is
that?"
she
asked.
"Well
honey,
that's
my
new
toy
--
isn't
it
awesome?"
It
did
take
a
couple
of
days
to
calm
her
down,
but
she
always
knew
that
I
have
wanted
a
bike,
so
eventually
relented.
Naturally,
I
promised
her
whatever
she
wanted.
One
of
the
first
things
she
said
was
"You're
not
getting
me
on
that
thing".
I
could
see
she
wasn't
going
to
change
her
mind.
I
decided
to
leave
the
matter
alone.
She
let
me
ride
as
much
as
I
wanted
without
comment,
except,
"just
be
careful".
I
went
on
many
rides
over
the
summer
and
managed
to
put
on
16,000km.
I
continued
to
levae
the
subject
of
her
riding
alone,
but
I
did
want
her
to
get
invovled
with
H.O.G.
and
attend
some
events
with
me
to
meet
my
new
friends.
I
had
heard
of
the
Oyster
Run
in
Washington.
After
discussing
it
in
detail
with
my
wife
and
friends
we
decided
to
ride
down
and
see
what
it
was
all
about.
We
rode
our
bikes;
however
my
wife
still
would
not
get
on
the
back,
choosing
to
drive
her
car.
The
day
before
the
event
we
headed
south
into
a
line
up
that
went
for
miles.
The
decision
was
made
to
go
into
the
duty
free
shop
to
bypass
the
line.
It
looked
like
a
good
idea
until
they
told
all
of
us
on
the
bikes
to
go
ahead,
which
left
my
wife
stuck
sitting
in
her
car.
My
friends
and
I
continued
on
without
my
wife.
I
didn't
feel
good
about
leaving;
however
being
a
man,
I
went
anyway.
We
rode
down
to
Whatcom
Lake
and
toured
around.
It
was
a
beautiful
day
for
a
ride.
About
four
hours
later
we
pulled
up
to
the
hotel
we
were
staying
in
for
the
night,
parked
our
bikes
and
went
in.
It
was
maybe
five
minutes
later
my
wife
pulled
into
the
parking
lot.
She
was
pissed.
She
had
waited
for
more
than
three
hours
to
get
across
the
border.
We
checked
in
and
then
went
to
dinner.
The
following
morning
we
woke
up
and
started
getting
ready
for
the
ride
into
Anacortes.
Ouy
of
the
blue
my
wife
declares
she
wants
to
ride
in
on
my
bike.
I
didn't
know
what
to
say.
I
had
no
gear
for
her
to
wear,
thinking
she
would
never
ride.
I
had
met
so
many
good
friends
riding
whom
where
glad
to
help.
We
borrowed
a
helmet
off
one
friend,
a
jacket
off
another
and
even
borrowed
a
pair
of
gloves
off
a
complete
stranger.
How
cool
is
that?
With
some
hesitation,
she
climbed
onto
the
back
of
my
Fatboy,
I
pulled
out
of
the
parking
lot
and
we
headed
to
town.
I
didn't
want
to
scare
her
off
riding
for
life,
so
I
rode
nice
and
slow.
She
held
on
tight.
I
could
tell
I
was
going
to
fast
when
she
squeezed
harder
and
harder.
With
very
little
screaming
and
yelling
we
made
it
to
the
Oyster
Run.
Unbelieveable
to
see
so
many
bikes
in
one
place.
We
all
had
a
great
day
and
decided
to
come
back
next
year.
The
first
thing
my
wife
wanted
to
do
when
we
got
home
was
buy
her
own
helmet
and
riding
gear.
Within
a
couple
of
days
she
was
all
geared
and
bugging
me
to
take
her
riding.
She's
been
on
the
back
ever
since.
That
was
a
day
worth
waiting
for!
