Fishing
Buzz |
|
Crabbing-
Crab
fisherman
continue
to
have
success
in
our
coastal
waters.
We
have
spoken
with
several
fishermen
who
have
reached
their
limit
in
a
very
short
amount
of
time.
Even
those
crabbing
inside
the
bar
have
had
great
success.
Salmon
Fishing-
Chinook
and
Coho
continue
to
be
caught
in
our
local
waters,
though
the
bite
is
not
quite
as
strong
as
before.
We
are
hoping
that
the
incoming
rain
will
entice
these
fish
to
bite
once
again.
We
did
have
an
interesting
story
of
a
Y
Family
Member
landing
a
salmon
with
little
effort
at
all.
In
fact,
he
didn’t
even
have
a
line
in
the
water!
A
21lb
Chinook
salmon
jumped
right
out
of
the
water
and
on
to
the
bank
of
the
Coquille
River.
He
ran
down
to
look
at
the
fish,
and
after
a
quick
photo
opportunity,
the
fish
was
released.
Don’t
forget,

News |

Our

October
23rd
to

Dick
and
the

would
like

this

we

We
look
forward
to
seeing
you
this
winter!
Here
is
one
quick
tip
for
those
Y
Family
members
storing
their
boats
for
winter.
Our
engine
manufacturers
have
suggested
that
you
fill
your
fuel
tank
before
storing
your
boat
this
winter.
The
addition
of
ethanol
to
the
fuel
pumped
around
the
state
has
led
to
increasing
engine
problems,
due
to
water
accumulation
in
the
fuel.
By
completely
filling
your
tank,
it
will
not
allow
space
for
water
to
enter
your
fuel
tank.
A
full
tank,
coupled
with
a
good
fuel
stabilizer
should
keep
your
engine
running
smooth
year
round.

John
Griffith's
Fishing
Tip
for
November
-
Note
Taking |
|
Tuna,
salmon,
rockfish
and
lingcod,
what's
not
to
like
about
living
on
Oregon's
south
coast.
Nature
served
up
a
full
measure
of
fine
times
and
dining
this
year:
We
had
early,
great
tuna
fishing
this
year
with
tuna
water
close
in;
hot
salmon
fishing
in
the
Umpqua
in
July,
no
less,
and
right
on
through
August;
a
Coho
fishery
outside
and
inside,
with
quick
limits
in
the
river
inside
the
jetties
clear
up
to
the
North
Bend
airport,
and
Chinook
fishing
in
Coos
Bay
from
mid
August
through
September.
Have
boat,
eat
well.
It's
always
great
to
see
lots
of
people
out
having
a
good
time.
Crowding
seems
like
a
problem
until
we
go
elsewhere
and
see
what
crowds
are
really
like
(Buoy
10
on
the
Columbia,
the
Rogue
bay
fishery).
Here,
we've
been
able
to
spread
out
as
we
learn
that
there's
more
places
in
Coos
and
other
bays
to
fish
than
most
of
us
knew
about
before.
There's
also
ways
and
times
to
fish
them
that
might
not
be
the
same
ways
and
times
we're
used
to.
As
I
wrote
this
in
early
October,
great
Coho
fishing
was
underway
in
the
lower
Coquille.
I
went
three
days
in
a
row,
and
got
my
one
Coho
per
day
right
off
the
bat.
About
15
years
ago,
I
began
to
keep
notes,
not
on
every
trip
but
when
I
have
what
I
think
is
a
noteworthy
experience
or
a
few
such
experiences
that
suggest
a
pattern
worth
remembering.
Sometimes
I've
gone
a
year
without
adding
to
them;
sometimes
I
add
to
them
a
few
days
in
a
row,
and
always
after
trips
out
of
town,
like
to
Mexico.
In
the
case
of
those
three
days
of
fishing
on
the
Coquille,
the
key
to
success
was
to
be
at
the
highest
reach
of
cooler
water
(not
the
highest
reach
of
tidewater,
but
cool,
incoming
water)
trolling
in
15
feet
of
water,
with
two
ounces
of
lead
and
60
feet
of
line
out.
I
avoided
the
temptation
to
fling
spinners
at
jumping
Coho
in
shallow
water,
but
used
my
time
with
the
same
set-up
I
use
for
Chinook:
spreader,
flasher,
44
inches
of
leader
and
a
double-hook
plug
herring
rig.
Making
notes
is
the
fishing
tip,
not
the
exact
place.
By
keeping
notes
on
pages
of
a
notebook
that
doesn't
get
lost,
I
have
those
breakthroughs
to
review
in
future
years
prior
to
seasons'
starting.
I
went
decades
without
keep
a
notebook,
but
as
I
age
I
learn
that
my
memory
isn't
particularly
less
sharp,
but
rather
it
wasn't
as
good
as
I
thought
it
was
when
I
was
younger.
