This Valentine’s Day, I awoke and decided to develop a plan to keep my marriage a happy one. If you remember, 9am on Valentine’s Day morning was about 70 hours after last weekend’s blizzard began. The plan required a motorcycle. So, first I had to dig out the trusty R1150GS from 23 inches of snow and walk the bike 30 feet through snow, using the throttle to get it to dry land. Off I go, northbound on the FDR to First Avenue and east on 69th street. Let me say, the GS handles the slushy, snow covered street unbelievably well. I then park the bike on the sidewalk at 68th and Lexington, purchase yellow roses on the corner and proceed up to the 17th floor at Hunter College along with my little token of love and affection. Luckily this was a big hit with all the women in my wife’s office, and therefore my wife liked the flowers even more. Why all this drabble? Having a motorcycle is a blessing. The bike gives me options and freedom to do more things; cars, buses and bicycles just don’t give you the same options, and what other bike would you even think about riding in the snow but a BMW with ABS. On another note, I recently saw the movie “World’s Fastest Indian” with Anthony Hopkins, a must see film! Not because it is a motorcycle movie but because it is a great movie. To the non-rider, this movie will change the perception of Motorcycling in a positive way. Please support this movie and encourage people to see it. We need all the good press we can get!
