| Going
Green!
We
Want
Your
Opinion! |
It
seems
everywhere
you
turn
today,
somebody
or
something
is
"Going
Green".
From
the
car
you
drive,
to
the
light
bulbs
you
use,
to
your
shampoo...companies
all
over
the
world
are
introducing
the
newest,
greenest
products
to
help
save
the
environment.
However,
there
is
one
way
that
we
can
all
help
save
our
environment
and
that's
through
our
paper
consumption.
The
average
American
consumes
more
than
700
pounds
of
paper
a
year.
Wow!
We
were
astonished
to
hear
that
number…until
we
began
to
think
of
all
the
places
in
our
daily
lives
that
we
see,
touch
or
use
a
paper
product.
Because
paper
is
such
an
intricate
part
of
our
daily
lives,
we
wanted
to
share
a
few
facts
about
how
the
paper
industry
effects
global
warming
and
the
environment.
1.
Forests
store
50%
of
the
world's
terrestrial
carbon.
(In
other
words,
the
forests
are
essentially
"carbon
sinks"
that
hold
onto
the
pollution
that
would
otherwise
lead
to
global
warming.) 2.
Half
the
world's
forests
have
already
been
cleared
or
burned,
and
80%
of
what's
left
has
been
seriously
degraded. 3.
The
paper
industry
is
the
4th
largest
contributor
to
greenhouse
gas
emissions
among
the
U.S.
manufacturing
industries,
and
contributes
9%
of
the
manufacturing
sector's
carbon
emissions. 4.
Paper
accounts
for
25%
of
landfill
waste
(and
one
third
of
municipal
landfill
waste). 5.
If
the
U.S.
cut
office
paper
use
by
just
10%
it
would
prevent
the
emission
of
1.6
million
tons
of
greenhouse
gases...the
equivalent
of
taking
280,000
cars
off
the
road. The
above
facts
were
published
in
a
report
called
The
State
of
the
Paper
Industry
by
the
Environmental
Paper
Network.
What
is
the
purpose
of
sharing
this
information
with
you?
These
email
blasts
and
e-newsletters
that
we
send
out
every
week
are
part
of
our
efforts
to
be
"Green".
By
sending
them
virtually,
we
elimiate
the
usage
of
paper
from
printing
and
postage.
Now
we
want
to
know
what
you
think.
Do
you
think
these
