FOUR WINNS WELCOMES NEW OWNERSHIP

CADILLAC, Mich. (February 2, 2010) – Four Winns officials today confirmed that Platinum Equity’s acquisition of Cadillac, Michigan based Four Winns has been completed. The transaction, which was approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for he District of Minnesota on January 13, 2010, also gave Platinum Equity ownership of several other leading boat brands previously under the Genmar umbrella. “We are thrilled with this outcome and are excited about the opportunity that latinum’s ownership presents for our employees, dealers, suppliers and other business partners,” said Four Winns President Jeff Olson. Olson and the management team at Four Winns felt comfortable with Platinum from the very first meeting. “It was clear to us that the group had done their research and saw Four Winns as a true leader of the recreational boating industry,” said Mr. Olson. -Read more-

Hi Everyone, fishing on Houghton Lake has been slow. I fished last Wednesday in the 30mph wind, ended up with 1 10.5" perch and 1 13" crappie along with 3 small walleyes that were let go to get bigger. I fished 12 ft. down with my faithful Do Jigger chrome with chartreuse, tried to keep a tip up out but the weather got the best of me. There are a lot of shanties on Houghton Lake this year, we have been getting 1-2 keeper walleyes, but this week was a little slower, thought with the full moon we would have slammed them. Even dropped 2 flash lights down the hole by accident and that didn't even draw them in.

I am experimenting with some home made plastic weeds you drop down the holes around you and hope the fish come in and use them as cover. Will let you know how this goes.
Reports of some good smelt fishing on Higgins Lake coming in as well as a good Lake Trout bite and some White fish being caught as well. I am off for a few days and hope to get some Smelt fishing in at Higgins

Good fishing,
Don Wigard

Arctic Cat wins!!!! The curse, is broken!!!

And the cheering crowd at Saturday’s running of the I-500 snowmobile race will echo all the way to Thief River Falls, Minnesota as Jeff Leuenberger & Troy Dewald drove the #21 Cadarette Collision sled to a first place finish. It was just another notch in the belt for last year’s defending championship team, but it’s a game changer for Arctic Cat and its legion of fans.
The numbers don’t lie. Since 1969, there had been 326 Arctic Cats run in the I-500 Snowmobile Races and they all had one thing in common — when the checkered flag dropped, the manufacturer’s teams and drivers were forced to watch as someone else claimed the trophy. For the first 41 years, hope and anticipation ended in disappointment. Broken belts, bad luck, near misses and a host of other mechanical and operators errors had conspired to keep the legend of the curse alive.
Just days before the race, Team Owner Greg Cadarette addressed that very issue.
“I think they’rs more than capable,” said Cadarette, dismissing the question. “If I didn’t think they were capable, I wouldn’t be running them.”
Still, there was almost an air of anticipation that something would go wrong despite the strong showing of 2010 Arctic Cat Sno Pro throughout the first 490-some odd laps.
The situation grew even more tense with just five laps to go when a caution flag brought the #14 Yamaha of Chad Drydahl directly behind Dewald’s machine. The race would be decided in the final laps.

Dewald fended off the initial challenge and continued to build his lead as the white flag announced one lap to go and he cruised to victory while long-suffering fans cheered the result with hoots and hollers, honking horns and even a few fireworks.
The curse, it seems, is broken.

Five-time champion Corey Davidson suffered mechanical problems early in the race and never was a factor in Saturday’s running.
Event-organizers were thrilled with the Saturday’s action.
Not only was there an exciting finish to a relatively safe race, but good weather brought the people out in droves.

Attendance estimates were in excess of 5,200 people with additional reports indicating that some were turned away from the site because all of the parking spaces were filled to capacity

Jeremy,
I was riding my 2007 Artic Cat Crossfire 800 last week and it over heated while riding. I noticed coolant on the ground when I stopped. I could not find a leak. I don’t think the coolant is circulating. I tried to ride it back to the trailer but ended up being towed. Do you see a lot of coolant issues with these sleds?

Chad,
Toledo OH

Chad,
Wow that’s a hard question without knowing all of the circumstances. As of late, we are seeing a lot of over heat issues with all sleds and this is because of bad snow conditions. I suspect after emailing you and getting more info that the sled over heated due to poor snow conditions. The coolant actually boiled over and you lost a substantial amount. If the engine does not have adequate coolant it will continue to overheat. (Hopefully you did not harm the engine) I also suspect that the cooling system has air and will need to be bled after filling it up to its proper level. Remember that coolant level fluctuates when its cold VS hot. If you over fill it, it will leak out. I hope everything turned out ok because I have not heard back from you.

Jeremy
