With

2010
Ocean
Salmon
&
Halibut
Seasons
Released! |
The
outlook
for
the
2010
Fishing
season
is
even
better
than
we
had
anticipated.
Not
only
have
we
had
confirmed
reports
of
multiple
50
pound
Chinook
salmon
caught
on
the
Umpqua
this
spring,
but
for
the
first
time
in
several
years
Oregon
will
even
have
a
commercial
Chinook
salmon
season!
In
an
article
posted
in
The
World
Newspaper
on
April
24th,
2010
Richard
DeChambeau
outlines
the
upcoming
salmon
and
halibut
seasons
that
will
be
had
in
2010.
Here
is
what
we
can
expect
for
Chinook,
Coho
and
Halibut
seasons
this
year.
Recreational
Ocean
Chinook
Season
-
The
recreational
ocean
season
for
all
salmon
except
Coho
begins
on
May
29th
and
will
continue
until
September
6th
of
2010.
The
fishable
area
for
this
year’s
season
is
from
Cape
Falcon
to
Humbug
Mountain.
There
will
be
a
bag
limit
of
two
fish
per
day
with
a
minimum
length
of
24
inches.
This
is
considered
our
Chinook
season
but
all
other
species
of
salmon,
with
the
exception
of
Coho,
can
be
taken.
Recreational
Ocean
Coho
Season
-
The
recreational
“marked
(fin-clipped)”
ocean
season
for
Coho
begins
on
June
26th
and
will
continue
until
September
6th
of
2010,
or
until
26,000
Coho
have
been
caught.
The
fishable
area
for
this
year’s
season
is
from
Cape
Falcon
to
the
California
border.
The
daily
bag
limits
for
this
season
is
two
fish
per
day,
but
remember,
during
Coho
season
you
can
catch
one
Coho
and
one
Chinook,
but
if
you
choose
to
retain
two
of
either
salmon,
you
have
reached
your
daily
bag
limit.
Commercial
Chinook
Season
-
We
will
have
a
commercial
Chinook
season
in
2010!
This
season
is
broken
into
several
dates
from
May
first
until
the
25th
of
August.
The
first
season
will
begin
on
May
1st
and
will
carry
through
July
6th.
The
season
will
re-open
again
from
July
9th
to
the
13th,
July
16th
through
the
20th,
July
23rd
to
the
27th
and
August
1st
to
the
25th.
Near
Shore
Halibut
Season-
This
year’s
near
shore
Halibut
season
will
be
open
May
1st
through
October
31st
or
until
the
quota
of
12,284
fish
is
met.
The
near
shore
area
is
designated
to
inside
40
fathoms.
All
Dept
Halibut
Season-
This
year’s
all-depth
Halibut
season
is
split
into
three
distinct
3
day
events.
The
first
will
begin
May
13th
and
will
close
on
May
15th,
the
second
will
open
May
20th
and
will
end
May
22nd
and
the
final
all
depth
open
dates
will
be
June
3rd
through
June
5th.
We
have
a
lot
to
look
forward
to
on
the
fishing
front
for
2010.
If
you
have
any
boating
needs
before
you
hit
the
water
this
spring,
please
look
no
further
than
Y
Marina.
We
have
a
wide
variety
of
new
and
pre-owned
boat
packages,
outboard
engines,
as
well
as
parts
and
accessories
to
choose
from.
We
also
have
a
five
star
service
department
that
is
here
to
meet
all
of
your
needs.
We
take
great
pride
in
being

Fishing
Buzz |
Fishing
season
is
here.
Chinook
and
Halibut
seasons
are
in
full
swing,
the
bass
are
beginning
to
bite,
and
our
outlook
on
all
seasons
have
not
shown
brighter
in
years.
We
have
received
several
reports
of
successful
fishing
both
by
word
of
mouth
and
printed
documentation.
Here
is
just
a
small
taste
of
the
buzz
surrounding
some
our
Y

Members;
Salmon
-
The
commercial
Chinook
Season
opened
Saturday
May
1st,
and
the
recreation
ocean
season
for
Chinook
will
begin
at
the
end
of
the
month.
A
Y

Member
fishing
the
mouth
of
the
Rogue
hooked
four
Chinook
on
Saturday,
two
of
which
were
well
above
the
24
inch
minimum
size.
Reports
of
Chinook
sightings
from
Charleston
also
seem
to
be
very
positive
this
far.
With
the
giant
Chinook
caught
this
past
month,
and
the
run
we
are
having
already
in
the
early
days
of
the
2010
season,
this
year’s
Chinook
and
Coho
seasons
appear
to
be
very
promising.
Bottom
Fishing
-
Y
Family
Members
continue
to
have
great
success
bottom
fishing
off
of
the
coast
of
Coos
Bay.
There
have
been
excellent
tides
resulting
in
quick
limits
in
Lings
and
Blacks.
Even
spear
fishermen
have
had
the
opportunity
to
successfully
hunt
some
very
impressive
ling
cod.
Bass
&
Trout
-
Trout
fishing
in
Tenmile
Lakes
has
been
excellent
thus
far,
and
should
continue
to
be
successful
for
some
time.
Trout
fishing
in
Lemolo
and
Diamond
Lakes
is
now
open
as
well,
which
have
proven
to
be
excellent
trout
fisheries
in
past
years.
But,
with
rising
water
temperatures
and
the
coming
of
spring,
more
attention
is
now
being
focused
to
Bass
fishing
in
bodies
of
water
like
Tenmile
Lakes
and
the
Umpqua
River.
Fortunately,
Oregon
and
the
Northwest
are
littered
with
several
small
lakes
and
rivers
that
will
prove
to
be
excellent
bass
fisheries.
Get
out
there
and
experience
the
fun!
Halibut
-
Near
shore
Halibut
season
is
upon
us,
and
our
all
depth
season
is
right
around
the
corner.
We
have
yet
to
hear
about
any
large
catches,
but
as
with
most
Halibut
seasons,
the
outlook
is
excellent!
Crabbing
&
Clamming
-
Check
you
tide
books!
We
have
some
very
good
morning
clamming
tides
coming
up
this
month,
and
for
the
most
part
bay
clamming
has
been
excellent.
Razor
clamming
has
been
a
little
slow
this
year,
but
there
are
hopes
that
these
good
tides
will
change
this
fortune.
Local
crabbing
continues
to
be
good
in
most
parts
of
the
Oregon
Coast,
though
the
Bandon
area
fisherman
crabbing
without
boats
have
reported
smaller
catches
than
in
past
years.
An
upside
for
all
crab
fishermen
is
that
Red
Rock
crabbing
seems
to
have
really
picked
up
in
our
local
waters
for
almost
everyone.

restricts
the
movement
of
these
mussels
into
the
state,
and
requests
your
assistance
in
preventing
the
further
spread
of
these
mussels
into
and
within
the
state.
Quagga
and
Zebra
Mussels
are
small,
freshwater
mussels
that
are
capable
of
overtaking
aquatic
environments,
causing
irreparable
environmental
impacts,
and
necessitating
costly
maintenance
for
the
water
infrastructure
of
the
state.
These
mussels
are
capable
of
surviving
out
of
water
for
several
days,
and
can
be
carried
on
watercraft
transported
over
land.
The
Department
of
Fish
and
Game
works
closely
with
the
California
Department
of
Food
and
Agriculture,
which
inspects
watercraft
entering
the
state
at
the
Border
Protection
Stations.
These
stations
are
finding
and
increasing
number
of
watercrafts
beings
transported
with
these
aquatic
creatures
on
them.
So,
in
response
the
DFG
is
attempting
to
reduce
the
frequency
of
mussel-infested
watercraft
arriving
at
the
border
stations
by
education
all
people
hauling
watercraft
across
the
California
border.
Because
of
the
significant
risk
posed
by
entry
of
mussel
infested
watercraft
into
the
state,
all
haulers
transporting
watercraft
contaminated
with
these
mussels
should
anticipate
being
denied
entry
into
California.
There
may
also
be
up
to
a
$1,000
if
a
vessel
is
found
to
have
these
mussels
on
them.
In
order
to
ensure
that
your
boat
is
free
of
these
organisms,
please
make
sure
that
your
watercraft
is
free
of
any
debris,
vegetation,
mussels
and
encrustation,
that
all
ballasts
and
reservoirs
are
drained
of
water
and
are
dry,
and
also
to
inform
all
people
of
these
regulations
faced
when
entering
the
state.

cleaning

Fishing
Tips |
|
Although
serious
bass
fishermen
start
before
winter
stops,
most
of
us
begin
planning
or
actually
going
on
black
bass
fishing
outings
in
May.
Water
temperature
changes
quicken
this
month,
rather
than
the
slow
changes
common
to
early
spring.
Fishing
action
makes
a
jump.
We
have
a
lot
of
lakes
between
Coos
Bay-North
Bend
and
Florence.
Big
ones,
like
the
Tenmiles,
Tahkenitch
and
Siltcoos
are
well
known
far
beyond
our
neighborhood.
Little
ones,
like
CZ
just
north
of
Tahkenitch,
are
good,
too,
and
don't
see
many
fishermen
all
year.
My
favorite
bass
trip
was
with
Pete
Heley,
who
just
about
has
gills
instead
of
lungs,
to
the
mainstem
Umpqua
River
from
Roseburg
to
River
Forks
Park.
That's
more
miles
of
river
than
most
would
want
in
a
day,
but
fortunately
I'd
put
a
four-horse
motor
on
my
old
driftboat
before
we
left
home
so
we
were
able
to
finish
not
too
many
hours
after
total
darkness
fell.
Pete
is
the
best
spin
caster
I
know.
I
rowed
much
of
the
time
and
he
stood
in
the
bow
casting
plugs
or
soft
baits,
either
underhand,
sidearm
or
overhand
into
suspicious
looking
haunts
that
were
often
no
larger
targets
than
a
mailbox
door.
He
did
not
miss
even
once.
It
was
May,
we
were
fishing
smallmouth
and
in
all
those
miles
of
Umpqua
from
downtown
Roseburg
to
River
Forks
we
saw
only
one
other
fisherman.
We
landed
and
released
so
many
fish
there
was
no
sense
in
counting.
No
one
who
hadn't
fished
early
season
bass
on
the
Umpqua
would
believe
it
anyway.

Y
Family
Entry |
This
month’s
Y
Family
Entry
was
sent
to
us
from
Y
Family
Member,
Tom
Hermary
of
British
Columbia,
Canada.
Tom
had
recently
purchased
a
brand
new
26’
North
River
Seahawk
Offshore
fishing
boat
from
Y
Marina,
and
had
the
following
to
say
about
his
experience
with
our
staff.
Hi
Kurt,
Just
an
update,
and
to
thank
you
and
your
staff
for
your
time
and
help
getting
my
new
boat
and
trailer
ready
for
me.
Also
pass
on
a
thanks
to
Delbert
for
his
help
and
driving
us
to
the
Ford
dealer
to
pick
up
a
relay
that
was
required
for
the
trailer
power
and
thus
electric
brake
operation.
The
electric
brake
system
worked
flawlessly
on
our
trip
and
the
trailer
performed
very
well.
I
will
be
putting
the
boat
in
the
water
this
evening
and
I
am
eager
to
get
behind
the
wheel.
This
photo
is
from
my
cell
phone
camera
with
my
kids
standing
up
in
the
cuddy
hatch.
They
were
more
exited
than
me,
they
also
found
the
button
for
the
horn
and
that
it
is
very
loud.
My
wife
was
pleased
when
she
looked
inside
and
saw
an
actual
marine
toilet,
as
that
was
always
an
issue
in
the
past.
I
will
send
a
photo
and
update
when
she
gets
named
and
officially
christened.
I
would
like
to
thank
Tom
and
his
family
for
making
the
long
trip
from
BC
to
purchase
the
North
River
and
for
sending
us
such
kind
words.
We
are
very
excited
for
Tom,
as
this
26’
Seahawk
is
truly
one
of
the
best
made
boats
available
today.
We
are
sure
that
he
and
his
family
will
have
many
enjoyable
memories
on
this
boat
for
many
years
to
come.

Storys
from
the
Boat
Ramp! |
We
did
not
receive
any
“Stories
from
the
Boat
Ramp”
for
the
month
of
May,
so
we
are
going
to
share
a
story
written
by
our
very
own,
Scott
Lancaster.
This
story
involves
a
very
unfortunate
situation
that
happened
to
one
of
our
salesmen
who
is
known
for
being
a
bit
of
a
prankster.
The
story
takes
place
in
the
spring
of
2003,
and
is
titled
The
One
Who
Cried
Wolf.
This
was
a
story
that
took
place
back
in
2003
and
it
involved
one
of
our
sales
people
“crying
wolf.”
If
you
know
Kurt
Nevdal,
you
know
very
well
that
he
is
a
prankster
by
nature.
Kurt
often
calls
from
the
bay
or
ocean
while
on
a
demo
and
says
“I’m
floating
in
the
ocean,
send
help!”
After
calling
sea
tow
a
couple
of
times
I
came
to
the
conclusion
to
simply
not
answer
his
call
when
he
was
out
on
one
of
his
so
called
“demos,”
or
when
he
was
out
running
a
boat
out
for
a
customer.
One
spring
day,
in
May,
Kurt
took
out
a
brand
new,
special
order,
2600
Striper
with
a
250hp
Fitch
engine
which
had
already
been
sold
to
a
customer
in
California.
As
some
of
you
may
remember,
there
were
a
few
minor
problems
with
these
larger
Fitch
engines.
Problems
that
one
would
never
want
to
experience
while
out
on
the
water.
Right
on
schedule,
I
received
a
call
from
Kurt
about
an
hour
later.
Of
course
my
natural
reaction
was
to
hit
the
ignore
button
on
my
phone,
and
that
is
exactly
what
I
did.
I
received
another
call
from
Kurt
about
twenty
seconds
later,
and
again,
chose
to
ignore
the
call.
He
was
not
able
to
contact
me,
so
he
immediately
dialed
our
work
phone
and
exclaimed,
“HELP!!
Put
Scott
on
the
line
right
now!”
As
I
answer
the
phone
Kurt
says
,“Send
help,
boats
on
fire!
I’m
serious!!”
Of
course,
I
just
laughed
and
again
hung
up
the
phone.
After
about
an
hour
with
no
phone
call
back
I
decided
I
had
better
go
down
to
the
boat
ramp
and
take
a
look.
I
wanted
to
make
sure
everything
was
ok
with
both
Kurt
and
the
Brand
new
Striper.
As
I
was
driving
down
to
the
ramp,
here
he
was,
right
there
in
front
of
me.
Kurt
had
called
the
U.S.
Coast
Guard
to
rescue
him
in
his
desperate
time
of
need.
I
immediately
received
the
finger
from
Kurt,
which
led
me
to
double
over
with
laughter.
As
I
approached
the
boat,
I
noticed
that
the
whole
back
of
the
brand
new
striper
was
torched
with
black
smoke.
Though
I
could
not
contain
my
laughter
at
that
moment,
I
soon
realized
that
this
was
in
fact
not
that
funny
of
a
situation.
This
was
a
sold
boat
and
the
customer
was
on
the
way
from
California
to
pick
up
this
very
boat,
which
he
had
special
ordered
from
Seaswirl.
We
had
likely
just
lost
an
$80,000
sale!
This
has
to
be
one
of
the
funniest
situations
that
I
have
ever
encountered.
Kurt
was
fuming
mad
at
me
for
ignoring
his
call
for
help,
and
I
was
still
laughing
so
hard
that
my
stomach
was
beginning
to
hurt.
After
about
an
hour
of
working
with
my
detail
crew
to
try
and
get
all
the
black
soot
off
the
boat,
the
customer
pulls
into
the
lot
and
Kurt
makes
a
run
for
the
border!
I
start
to
walk
out
with
the
customer
to
look
over
their
new
boat
and
said,
“Well
the
boat
looks
great
and
performs
great,
but
we
have
one
small
problem.
I
think
they
shipped
us
the
wrong
motor!”
This
motor
was
so
black
from
the
fire,
that
it
did
not
even
resemble
an
Evinrude
anymore.
I
said,
“I
think
it’s
a
Mercury,”
I
exclaimed.
We
discussed
the
situation
with
the
customer
and
we
both
got
a
good
laugh.
In
the
end
we
were
glad
that
this
happened
to
a
salesperson
that
knew
how
to
handle
the
situation,
and
not
the
customer
out
on
his
maiden
voyage.
The
customers
were
incredibly
cool
about
the
whole
situation.
We
were
able
to
install
a
new
motor
and
ship
the
boat
to
them
in
California.
Since
that
faithful
day
we
have
not
received
a
false
cry
for
help
from
Kurt,
or
any
of
our
staff.
Kurt,
had
truly
learned
his
lesson,
never
cry
wolf
where
a
potential
life
threatening
situation
could
occur.
If
you

up
for
a
good
laugh.

of
course,

your
entry.
We
look
forward
to
seeing
what
you
have
to
share!

Joke
of
the
Month |
|
Our
May
joke
of
the
month
is
brought
to
you
by
the
website,
www.mdranglers.com,
and
is
titled;
You
are
a
Real
Bass
Fisherman
if...
-
You
have
a
power
worm
dangling
from
your
rear
view
mirror
because
you
think
it
makes
a
good
air
freshener.
-
Your
wedding
party
had
to
tie
tin
cans
to
the
back
of
your
bass
boat.
-
You
call
your
boat
"sweetheart"
and
your
wife
"skeeter".
-
Your
local
tackle
shop
has
your
credit
card
number
on
file.
-
You
keep
a
flippin
stick
by
your
favorite
chair
to
change
the
TV
channels
with.
-
You
name
your
black
lab
"Mercury"
and
your
cat
"Evinrude".
-
Bass
Pro
Shop
has
a
private
line
just
for
you.
-
You
have
your
name
painted
on
a
parking
space
at
the
launch
ramp.
-
You
have
a
photo
of
your
10
lb.
bass
on
your
desk
at
work
instead
of
your
family.
-
You
consider
viennies
and
crackers
a
complete
meal.
-
You
think
MEGABYTES
means
a
great
day
fishing.
-
You
send
your
kid
off
to
the
first
day
of
school
with
his
shoes
tied
in
a
palomar
knot.
-
You
think
there
are
four
seasons--Pre-spawn,
Spawn,
Post
Spawn
and
Hunting.
-
Your
$30,000
bass
boat's
trailer
needs
new
tires
so
you
just
"borrow"
the
ones
off
your
house.
-
You
trade
your
wife's
van
for
a
smaller
vehicle
so
your
bass
boat
will
fit
in
the
garage.
-
Your
kids
know
it's
Saturday---Because
the
boats
gone,
