| E15
Fuel
Decision
Delayed |
|
The
decision
to
expand
E10
ethanol
gasoline
to
E15
gasoline
has
once
again
been
delayed
in
Washington.
This
is
the
second
delay
since
the
petition
by
the
EPA
was
brought
forth
about
one
year
ago.
With
a
yes
decision
in
Washington
we
could
see
a
rise
of
up
to
5%
ethanol
in
our
fuel
nationwide.
The
current
legal
level
of
ethanol
is
set
below
10%,
and
would
rise
to
almost
a
15%
mixture.
The
committee
will
meet
again
in
the
fall,
after
further
testing
of
the
gasoline,
to
reach
their
decision.
While
this
has
the
potential
to
be
an
excellent
opportunity
for
corn
farmers
worldwide,
it
does
not
necessarily
bode
well
for
the
boating
industry
and
other
industries
that
rely
on
fuel.
Currently,
most
of
the
testing
of
E15
ethanol
fuels
is
on
automobiles,
as
it
will
have
potentially
the
largest
impact
on
the
automotive
industry.
Other
industries
relying
on
gas
powered
engines
have
protested
against
this
rise
in
ethanol
until
significant
research
has
proven
that
the
E15
gasoline
is
compatible
with
both
on
road
and
non-road
engines.
As
one
writer
from
Boating
Industry
Magazine
wrote,
“Focusing
on
automobiles
leaves
out
millions
of
other
gas-powered
engines.
If
you
own
a
lawn
mower,
chain
saw,
all-terrain
vehicle,
generator,
or
boat,
I
would
be
very
concerned
over
the
costs
to
repair
or
replace
those
items
after
using
higher
levels
of
ethanol
gas."
As
many
boating
enthusiasts
know,
E10
ethanol
gasoline
has
become
a
major
problem
for
boaters
nationwide.
Ethanol
attracts
water
into
fuel
systems
which
has
lead
to
many
issues
in
engines
that
are
have
not
been
meticulously
cared
for.
At
Y
Marina
alone,
nearly
50%
of
services
completed
are
on
engines
with
fuel
related
issues.
The
potential
rise
to
an
E15
gasoline
could
be
extremely
detrimental
to
the
industry
that
has
already
experienced
a
massive
decline.
As
fall
approaches
we
will
have
our
eyes
on
Washington.
We
know
that
the
introduction
of
E15
fuel
is
not
all
bad
news.
The
switch
to
an
E15
gasoline
may
very
well
be
a
stepping
stone
for
future
fuels
and
a
positive
change
in
the
oil
industry
worldwide.
But
for
now,
we
must
focus
our
attention
to
the
immediate
effect
on
all
industries
that
a
move
to
E15
will
create.

July
Fishing
Tips |
July
is
perhaps
the
best
month
of
the
year
to
own
an
ocean-able
boat
if
you
live
on
the
Oregon
coast.
It's
debatable,
certainly.
Some
could
successfully
argue
the
best
month
is
August.
It
depends
on
the
weather,
year
to
year.
It's
mainly
the
point
of
being
ready
to
go
in
July.
Some
of
the
tuna
fishermen
will
have
exploratory
trips
logged
by
late
July
if
the
weather
is
sketchy.
If
it's
good,
most
will
have
made
several
trips.
Salmon
fishing
is
also
good
"outside"
in
July.
This
year
there's
a
26,000-fish
coho
quota
for
fin-clipped
fish
from
the
California
border
to
the
north
coast's
Cape
Falcon.
And
we
have
a
Chinook
season
again.

Fishing
Buzz |
Poor
weather
and
rough
seas
continue
to
be
a
problem
for
halibut
and
salmon
fishermen
in
the
Northwest,
though
the
outlook
is
high
for
the
month
of
July.
Coho
season
has
finally
begun,
and
the
albacore
will
be
following
warm
current
north
towards
the
middle
of
the
month.
There
is
a
lot
to
look
forward
to
this
July,
so
here
is
just
a
small
taste
of
the
buzz
surrounding
some
our
Y

Members;
Salmon
-Coho
season
has
arrived
and
the
outlook
is
once
again
high
for
Oregon
Coast
fishermen.
June
presented
us
with
rough
seas
and
poor
fishing
weather
which
has
lead
to
low
numbers
of
chinook
caught
off
of
our
coastal
waters.
The
small
numbers
of
salmon
that
have
been
caught
have
been
hooked
at
depths
over
350
feet.
We
can
expect
the
month
of
July
to
present
better
weather
and
better
fishing
for
both
chinook
and
coho
salmon.
Please
remember
to
bring
your

into
Y

a

valued
at

Bottom
Fishing
-
Bottom
fishing
continues
to
be
hot
off
of
the
southern
Oregon
coast.
Most
fishermen
have
been
reaching
their
limit
of
both
blacks
and
lings
in
a
very
short
amount
of
time.
Local
spear
fishermen
have
raved
about
great
visibility
and
large
catches
right
outside
of
Charleston.
Bass
&
Trout
-
Bass
and
trout
fisherman
fishing
in
our
small

were
very
successful
in
the
month
of
June.
Ten
Mile
has
been
a
popular
spot
for
catching
both
bass
and
trout
so
far
this
spring,
and
as
we
enter
July
we
should
see
the
strong
bite
continue.
One

landed
four
bass
in
just
a

hours
of
fishing
over

Trout
fishing
in
Ten
Mile
has
also
been
good
in
the
month
of
June,
and
should
continue
to
be
good
through

Another
great
place
for
local
fisherman
to
catch
a
nice
trout
is
Empire
Lakes
in
Coos
Bay.
This
lake
is
continuously
stocked
with
great
trout
and
can
be
a
fun
place
to
fish
with
the
whole
family.
Crabbing
-

continue
to

Reports
were
that
the
crab
were
all
quite
large
and
still
full,
which
is
somewhat
unusual
for
this
time
of
year.

we

a
very
touching

was
sent

us
from

Rich

purchase
a
Smoker

and
had
some
wonderful
things
to
say
about
their
experience.
Bruce

I
appreciate
how

They

our

We
will
do
it
again
when
we
need
our

Thanks

were
incredible
to
work
with
throughout
the
entire

We
truly
appreciate
the
wonderful
things
you
had
to
say
about
your

Bruce,
as
well
as
our

We
are
sure
they
will
enjoy
their

Recipe
of
the
Month |
For
July’s
recipe
of
the
month
we
wanted
to
feature
something
that
was
easy
to
prepare,
tastes
great
and
is
a
healthy
meal
for
the
whole
family.
Salmon
is
the
main
ingredient
for
this
month’s
recipe,
and
it
was
found
at
www.recipezaar.com.
July’s
recipe
of
the
month
is
titled
Amazing
Salmon
Tacos.
This
recipe
will
prepare
4
servings
and
takes
approximately
25
minutes
to
prepare.
We
hope
you
enjoy
July’s
recipe
of
the
month.
Ingredients
-
1
lb
salmon,
skinned
and
cut
into
one
inch
cubes
-
1
tbsp
cumin
-
1
tsp
chili
powder
-
2
tbsp
olive
oil
-
1
medium
yellow
onion,
chopped
-
2
limes,
quartered
-
2
(8-ounce)
cans
dice
tomatoes
with
green
chilies,
drained
(like
Rotel)
-
½
bunch
fresh
cilantro,
chopped
-
1
bunch
green
onion,
chopped
Preparation
Instructions
-
Toss
cubed
salmon
in
cumin
and
chili
powder
and
set
aside.
-
Heat
large
skillet
over
medium
heat
and
cook
yellow
onion
2
minutes,
until
it
begins
to
soften.
-
Turn
heat
up
to
medium
high.
Add
salmon
to
skillet.
Lightly
sear
salmon
cubes
for
about
2-3
minutes,
turning
gently.
-
Do
not
overcook
the
salmon.
This
juicy
recipe
will
keep
steaming
the
salmon.
The
salmon
should
still
be
firm
in
the
middle
of
the
cube
when
you
proceed
to
the
next
step.
-
Return
heat
setting
to
medium.
Add
canned
tomatoes
and
chilies,
cilantro
and
green
onions.
Gently
incorporate
and
heat
through.
-
Squeeze
quartered
limes
over
salmon
mixture,
give
it
a
quick
stir,
and
plate
up
the
salmon.
You
may
be
able
to
drain
a
little
liquid
at
this
time.
-
Serve
with
warm
flour
tortillas,
quality
salsa,
sour
cream,
sliced
avocado
and
crisp
romaine
lettuce.

Joke
of
the
Month |
|
HARD
WORK
PAYS
OFF
One
day
a
fisherman
was
lying
on
a
beautiful
beach,
with
his
fishing
pole
propped
up
in
the
sand
and
his
solitary
line
cast
out
into
the
sparkling
blue
surf.
He
was
enjoying
the
warmth
of
the
afternoon
sun
and
the
prospect
of
catching
a
fish.
About
that
time,
a
businessman
came
walking
down
the
beach,
trying
to
relieve
some
of
the
stress
of
his
workday.
He
noticed
the
fisherman
sitting
on
the
beach
and
decided
to
find
out
why
this
fisherman
was
fishing
instead
of
working
harder
to
make
a
living
for
himself
and
his
family.
"You
aren't
going
to
catch
many
fish
that
way,"
said
the
businessman
to
the
fisherman,
"you
should
be
working
rather
than
lying
on
the
beach!"
The
fisherman
looked
up
at
the
businessman,
smiled
and
replied,
"And
what
will
my
reward
be?"
"Well,
you
can
get
bigger
nets
and
catch
more
fish!"
was
the
businessman's
answer.
"And
then
what
will
my
reward
be?"
asked
the
fisherman,
still
smiling.
The
businessman
replied,
"You
will
make
money
and
you'll
be
able
to
buy
a
boat,
which
will
then
result
in
larger
catches
of
fish!"
"And
then
what
will
my
reward
be?"
asked
the
fisherman
again.
The
businessman
was
beginning
to
get
a
little
irritated
with
the
fisherman's
questions.
"You
can
buy
a
bigger
boat,
and
hire
some
people
to
work
for
you!"
he
said.
"And
then
what
will
my
reward
be?"
repeated
the
fisherman.
The
businessman
was
getting
angry.
"Don't
you
understand?
You
can
build
up
a
fleet
of
fishing
boats,
sail
all
over
the
world,
and
let
all
your
employees
catch
fish
for
you!"
Once
again
the
fisherman
asked,
"And
then
what
will
my
reward
be?"
The
businessman
was
red
with
rage
and
shouted
at
the
fisherman,
"Don't
you
understand
that
you
can
become
so
rich
that
you
will
never
have
to
work
for
your
living
again!
You
can
spend
all
the
rest
of
your
days
sitting
on
this
beach,
looking
at
the
sunset.
You
won't
have
a
care
in
the
world!"
The
fisherman,
still
smiling,
looked
up
and
said,
"And
what
do
you
think
I'm
doing
right
now?"
