Lost in Manhattan; hard to believe, but it happened to me last Saturday on my way to work. Here I was, heading west on Broome Street by the entrance to the Holland Tunnel, and my intention was to go North bound on Twelfth Avenue. Instead of going right, I went left and got stuck in the worst tunnel traffic in history while everybody was heading south on Seventh Avenue. Good thing I was on the GS and not the car, gridlock city! The funny part of this story is that I spent the next 15 minutes crisscrossing town to get back on track not to mention that I was wearing winter gear on a 55 degree day, very uncomfortable. I know that the property owners 200 years ago had their way with the roads on the Lower West side, but if you ask me, someone planned intentional mayhem which reminds me of the roads in Florence Italy, with all the Senso Unicos (Italian for one ways). When I am on my motorcycle I never feel trapped like when I am in my car, in the car you just have to sit and wait it out. With the motorcycle no matter how jammed the traffic is, as a last resort you can always get off the bike and push it out to freedom. All I know is that after I drive a car in Manhattan I always feel stressed but, after riding my GS in Manhattan, I feel energized, never lost, just exploring.
