Cruisin' For Cole
May 22, 2010 - To bring awareness about how important it is to pay attention while driving, stay off your cell phones and watch out for motorcyclists, I write this article about our only son, Cole Morton, whom was lost in a motorcycle accident October 9, 2007. In his honor, the third annual Cruisin’ for Cole Memorial Ride was held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Harley-Davidson of Greensboro.

Despite the cloudy, and sometimes rainy, weather conditions, we had a great turnout with 134 registrations. The committee collected $5,964 through donations, several sponsors and proceeds from the items sold at the ride. The winners of the 50/50 and Poker Run also returned their winnings to the committee. This is a testament to how Cole touched so many lived in the short time he had here. The ride was a huge success because of all of you who joined in. All of the donations and proceeds go to the Jeffrey Cole Morton Fire Science Scholarship at GTCC, which benefits students seeking education in a career Cole so dearly loved.

It’s hard for me to put Cole’s life into words. He lived such a full life, enjoyed every minute of it and strived to make sure others were enjoying their lives. He truly cared about making others happy before himself. Cole grew up around firefighters. He made trips to the fire station on Sundays to deliver dinner to his dad and knew from an early age he would be a firefighter. He never asked for a free ride, working various part-time jobs until he was 19 and old enough to become a firefighter.

One of Cole’s other passions was motorcycles. He loved riding, talking about motorcycles and helping first time riders. Cole was riding his motorcycle down Holden Road in Greensboro toward town when a man ran a red light and hit him. He said he hadn’t seen Cole coming. There were 1400 people at Guilford Memorial Sedgefield when it came time to say goodbye to Cole with fire trucks lining the road. Cole was the kind of man who would stop to help a stranger. He had a smile and attitude that would make you happy to be around him. He wouldn’t want his passing to hurt anyone’s heart. He would want everyone to use their lives to benefit the world and the people in it, to be thankful and appreciative.

Hit by a person who ran a stoplight, he left this world doing what he loved the most – riding. Cole struggled to pay his way through school to better himself. I know it would make him proud that, in his name, others can achieve their dreams as he did. What better way to honor and keep Cole’s memory alive than by holding this ride every year in May and growing the Jeffrey Cole Morton Fire Science Scholarship Fund? We hope to see you next year on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Harley-Davidson of Greensboro for the fourth Annual Cruisin’ for Cole Memorial Ride.

The Steel Horse Saloon Grand Opening Bash
June 5, 2010 – What better way to kick off the summer than a big grand opening bash at a biker bar? The Steel Horse Saloon next door to Harley-Davidson of Greensboro kicked off the summer right with live music, food, cold beer, prizes and so much more. The day was hot, but the drinks were cold, the motorcycle park was crawling with riders and the stage was rocking.

The Steel Horse rolled up their doors at 11am and Lock Down Blues Band began rocking about 12:30. The Jeremy Graham Band traveled all the way from Georgia to play for a few hours in the afternoon. Five II One, a local favorite, finished off the event in the evening. What in incredible music line-up. Billy Leonard brought his Nitro Harley and fired it up on occasion in between band sets. HB Ramsey also had his late model NASCAR on display.

Of course it wouldn’t be a real Harley party without hot girls. Jade Bullins, Harley-Davidson of Greensboro’s Spokemodel, could be found under the dealership’s event tent spinning the prize wheel and having pictures made. The Miller Lite girls and Hooters girls could be seen throughout the day taking pictures, handing out free promo items and making the party guests smile.

Thank you to everyone who joined the party! It was a great day and so much fun. If you missed it you definitely owe it to yourself to stop by and check out the Steel Horse Saloon. With the open air, table-filled veranda, cold beer and awesome bartenders there’s no better place to stop while out riding. The bar is also open Thursday through Sunday and Thursday night is bike night. Stop in the Harley shop while you’re here to see what’s new that day.

Hunter's Memorial Ride
Humane Society Pet Adoption Fair
July 10, 2010 - We were blessed with a gorgeous day for the 1st Annual Hunter’s Ride & Pet Adoption Fair to Benefit the Humane Society of the Piedmont. More than 45 bikes left Harley-Davidson of Greensboro around 10:30am, made stops at Childress Vineyards, H-D of High Point and Cox’s H-D, and returned to Harley-Davidson of Greensboro about 2:30pm.

The group of riders returned with Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, The Steel Horse Saloon and the Motorcycle Park in full swing. Kitty Hawk, an excellent local rock band, was rockin’ the stage, the park was full of dogs of all ages looking for permanent homes and tents scattered the lawn shading various animal businesses and support groups. There were riders and non-riders alike playing with and petting the adoptable dogs, enjoying cold beverages and soaking up the positive, exciting energy of the event. Not to mention enjoying all the wonderful food provided by the Barber family. There were burgers, BBQ, an entire two tables of delicious cakes and sweets and a lot more.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Barber family and the Humane Society of the Piedmont. Hunter Barber was only 18 when he was killed in a car accident on his way to school this past March. Hunter loved the outdoors, his garden and every animal that God put on this earth. It was his absolute love of all animals that fueled this event to support the local Humane Society and animal rescue. As a result of this ride and event, a total of $2600 was raised for the Humane Society of the Piedmont, 14 applications were submitted for adoptions and, so far, 8 dogs have found permanent loving homes. This is fantastic!

Written by Sara Barber, Hunter’s mom, “First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who helped with the Poker Run and/or the afternoon festivities. I hope all had fun. I think this was a great turnout for the 1st run. But most of all, to me, was the pouring out of love for my son, Hunter Barber. I always knew he was a special child, but now that he is gone, I’ve found how really wonderful he was. He loved his animals and loved motorcycles and what better way to remember him than with such an event. I could see him in heaven smiling down and nodding with approval. Once again, from his entire family, thank you all for giving of yourselves and your hearts. May God truly bless you.”

New Faces in High Point
We are pleased to introduce Jason Zachary as Harley-Davidson of High Point's Store Manager. Originally from Fairlong, New Jersey, Jason has extensive business, sales and customer service experience. He spent 8 years in the car business as both Sales Manager and Finance Manager. He also ran his family's heavy duty truck parts company for five years. In August of 2007, Jason relocated to North Carolina with his wife and two daughters in search of new opportunities and to be closer to some family members. After settling in Greensboro, he spent two and a half years working in Marketing for the Berry Company.

Jason is excited about this new opportunity as Store Manager at Harley-Davidson of High Point. Not only is he looking forward to the reduction in travel and spending more evenings at home with this family, but says this position is a fresh spin on his career. It is a great opportunity to pull all of his past experience together and provides for a new challenge.

Jason is eager to get to know the Harley family so, if you have not already, please stop by the High Point shop to introduce yourself.

Jeffrey Krites is a fairly new addition to our High Point Harley family. Some of you may remember working with him in Wolf Creek where he would have assisted you with General Merchandise and/or Parts & Accessories throughout 2008. Just recently Jeff returned and is now helping customers with Parts & Accessories in our High Point location. During his leave of absence Jeff attended the Police Academy at Rockingham Community College. Jeff graduated in July 2009 and worked on the force until March 2010. He is currently doing reserves and will be starting at UNCG in the fall to complete his Bachelors Degree in Political Science.

We invite you to stop by Harley-Davidson of High Point in the near future to welcome Jeff back. He loves working with Harley riders. “I have the opportunity to meet so many interesting people and helping them to customize their bike to fit their own personality and riding style is so fulfilling!”
