Summer is just around the corner and the riding season is in full swing here at Republic! I’m quickly approaching six months as Sales Manager. It’s been challenging at times but I’ve never worked with a better group of employees or finer, loyal customers. I appreciate knowing all of you and hope I have made a positive impact with regards to your dealership experiences.

On April 1st, (April Fools Day?) I will move into the role of General Manager at Republic Harley-Davidson. My mission is to continue to grow our business with the best customer service in the nation. As you may know, Republic was honored in last months Texas Ride Magazine as having one of the top 10 Service Departments in the State of Texas (not just Harley shops but all brands). We were also included in their Top 10 Best Facilities!

It’s springtime and the weather is great. What better time than now to rent a motorcycle and see the country. During this past month we had people visiting from Maine, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Louisiana, Washington State and Canada just to mention a few. All came to Texas to rent a bike and tour. Our group of 7 riders (pictured below) from Washington had a great time riding from here to Florida and back with many interesting stops along the way.

I have been riding off and on since I was 11. My first bike was a Honda XL70. I got my motorcycle endorsement at age 16 and bought my first street bike. I enjoy and admire all styles and brands of Motorcycles. If it has two wheels and a motor, I am there!

My favorite place to ride in Texas is the Big Bend area followed closely by the Hill Country. My favorite section of road in Texas is Hwy 118 from Fort Davis up to the McDonald Observatory.

Helping someone realize his or her goal of becoming a Motorcycle rider is a very rewarding experience for me. Motorcycling attracts rebels, adrenaline junkies, adventure-seekers and folks who walk just a touch closer to the edge. The great thing about it is that we all ride, and like riding, and like others who ride.

Ten-year-old Nickolas Joyner Pittman was asked to write a short story for his school project. He chose to write a special story about a custom Harley-Davidson, and a 20-day trip around the United States. Read about young Nickolas’ adventures as he travels the U.S.A. on his very own custom bike.

Hi, I’m going to tell you a story. A very interesting story. It’s about my Harley-Davidson, and me and how I made it around the United States in twenty days.

It started when I was 10 years old and my mom who worked at a Harley-Davidson dealership had a custom made motorcycle built especially for me. I took a Rider’s Edge class to learn how to ride a bike. After taking the class and receiving my license I decided to take a trip around the United States on my new Harley-Davidson.

I started out from my home in Needville, Texas and rode out to the Texas and Oklahoma border. This was my first pit stop of my journey. I spent the night at a motel. The next day I headed straight through New Mexico. I rode until I got to the capitol of Santa Fe. The next day I rode all the way to Phoenix Arizona. While traveling through the Arizona desert, I ran into a large cactus and flipped my bike over and broke the cactus right in half! Then I got up to check on my bike, and saw the cactus was full of juice so I decided to drink it.

I traveled into California. While there I stopped to watch a baseball game. During the game, a batter hit a foul ball and it hit me right in my head, knocking me out cold! Once I woke up the next day, I went to the parking lot to find my bike. I found it upside-down in the dumpster. Once I got it upright I headed out of California into Arizona and stopped in Tucson for the night. I slept for two days straight because I still had a huge knot on my head. I got up and went to eat breakfast at IHOP. Then I left Tucson and headed to New Mexico.

While traveling through New Mexico in the mountains I ran into a bear, flipped my bike and when I got up the bear started chasing me into the forest. I ran into the forest finding a small cave to hide in. I hid in the cave until morning because the bear was not in sight. I climbed out of the cave to go look for my bike. When I found my bike on the road it was covered in snow. As soon as I got my bike up and snow off, I headed to Texas. In Texas I stopped in Dallas to spend the day at Six Flags. I got stuck upside down on Greased Lightning for one hour. After getting off the ride I said, “Forget this! I am going home,” and headed back to Needville.

Once I got home I was telling my friends and family about my trip. Then I realized that I only traveled as far as California. I guess that bump on my head made me forget that I just begun my trip around the United States.
