Chapter Ride - 50/50 Rule
The 50/50 Rule is very basic: if the outside temperature is below 50 degrees; or we have a forecast of precipitation of 50% or more then the ride is cancelled. This will allow everyone to know that status before departing for the ride. However, don’t let this stop you from riding if you so desire.

Group Riding Seminar
Ozark Harley-Davidson is presenting a Group Riding Seminar on Saturday, August 21st starting at 1PM.

The seminar will be held in the customer lounge at the Dealership. There will be a short video to watch as well as a question and answer session. Our local H.O.G. Safety Officer Richard Burch will be on hand to answer questions.

Weather permitting; there will be a short ride after the seminar to practice group riding.

We have started a new list for name badges. Get your name on the list now. We need 12 badges for an order. Name badges are $8.00 each. Let an officer know what name you want on your badge and we will put you on the list.

Director's Note
The last week in June, Karen and I and two other couples attended the Colorado-Utah Combined State rally. This was without a doubt, the best State Rally we have ever been to! We started at St George, Utah and ended at Durango, Colorado. We went to Zion National Park, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Four Corners National Monument and the Million Dollar Highway between Durango and Silverton, Colorado. Temperatures ranged from the low fifties to one hundred and sixteen. Altitudes from 2500 to 11,000 feet. Magnificent and spectacular doesn’t begin to describe the scenery along the way. There were bike shows, bike games, free food, entertainment and hundreds of door prizes. Free water, Gatorade and snacks were given out at stops along the way. We rode 3728 miles total and had a great time! Would we do it again? For sure!
Shortly after returning from Colorado, we went to Norfolk, Virginia. Our son-in-law retired from the Navy, after 25 years. I don’t know about the other Military Branches, but the Navy really makes this a big event. This was one of the most awesome ceremonies I have had the pleasure of attending!
July’s dinner ride to Bandanas in Osage Beach, had 15 people and 13 bikes. Leah Whaley, our HOG Regional Manager was in the area and was able to come for the ride and dinner. Thanks for joining us Leah! JR Doerr won the drawing to have his dinner paid for by the chapter. Come along on Aug.6th, to El Jimador in St Robert and you might get your dinner paid for. Although the weather turned nasty, everyone made it home safely. No one got rained on, just slightly damp.
We are planning the zip-line outing for either Sept.11 or Oct.16. The date will depend on how many sign up. If we have 10 or more signed up in advance the price is $25.00 a person. Caveman Zip-line at Merrimac Caverns will be the destination. Their zip-line tour consists of four zip-line runs of various lengths, along with three Sky bridge walks. They also have a restaurant there. If you would like to go, either to ride the zip-lines or just to watch, then sign up at the August meeting or let one of the officers know.

Until the next time, Ride Safe, Ride Often and Enjoy Life!
Bill

Tammie's Two Cents
I just wanted to take a few minutes to again say thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped with events so far this year. Also a big thank you to our sponsor’s and members for their continued support of the chapter. There are a lot of neat things coming up over the next few months and we hope that we will see you all there. .
I have started putting together a committee for the Christmas Party so if you are interested in helping out, please let me know. Once things in my life calm down, I am hoping to have a meeting to start getting ideas together. I think that this is going to be a great time and I am really excited about it. Also, I am going to try to get with the hotels in the area to see if I can get some discount rates for that night. I will keep you all posted. We look forward to seeing you all soon. Please come out and join us for what we hope to be a very exciting next 5 months.
One thing that I would like to remind everyone of is that this is YOUR chapter. If you have ideas for a ride or an activity, please contact one of your officers and we will see what we can do to get it planned.

Tammie

The Secretary's Corner
The July meeting was held on July 18 @ Ozark Harley Davidson Pavilion. We had two guests with us—Melba from New York (Cornelius’ daughter) and Morgan (Lee Brown’s grand daughter). A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as written in the newsletter. Karen D reported that we had a beginning balance of $1566.49 with deposits of $836, expenses of $149.88 leaving an ending balance of $2252.61. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Treasurer’s report.

Brian reported that the scheduled ride to Montauk would be changed due to the heavy rains in that area. He planned an alternate ride down Hwy 32 to P to K to 64 back to Dowd’s for lunch. We went through Bennett Springs on our way as well (thanks Dennis for the suggestion). We had 24 people join us on the ride.

The dinner ride to Bandana’s was held on July 16th. There were 13 bikes and 15 members who went on the ride. All made it home safely and most without getting rained on :)

Brian stated that the next Chapter Challenge event will be the Chapter Touring ride to Paducah, KY July 23-25. Please see Karen or Bill DeCastro for more information. We look forward to hearing all about the great time that we are sure that everyone will have.

Missy talked about the Group Riding Seminar that will be held at the Ozark Harley Davidson dealership on Saturday August 21st starting at 1 p.m. There will be a short video as well as a question/answer session. Weather permitting there will be a short ride after the seminar. Also on August 21st there will be a Bike Night at Ozark H-D. Registration will open at 5 p.m. and the trophy presentations will be around 7 p.m. There will be 7 classes with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place along with Best of Show.

Debi wanted to remind everyone of the importance of sign up sheets. When events or rides are scheduled , it is extremely important to know how many we can expect. If you want to go on a ride or sign up to help with an event but you are unable to make it to the meeting or to the dealership, please email any of the officers, Missy or Jenna and any of us can get you added to the sign up sheet.

Lake of the Ozark BikeFest will be held September 16-19 at Lake of the Ozarks Harley Davidson. Our chapter will have a booth at the event Friday/Saturday and Sunday. This year we have added Sunday due to the Bike giveaway that will be Sunday afternoon. If you would like to volunteer, please see JR Doerr or any of the officers.

The next dinner ride will be on Friday August 6th. We will depart Ozark H-D at 6:15 p.m. & ride to El Jimador in St. Robert, MO. Brian Black will be the Road Captain for this ride.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday August 15th at 11 a.m. at Ozark H-D Pavilion. There will be a ride following to Truman SP and Lee Brown will be the Road Captain.

50/50 was won by Sandy Gentry
Door Prizes were won by Lisa O’Rourke, Mike O’Rourke and Karen DeCastro

Brian gave a short riders brief and the meeting was adjourned.
