Chapter Ride - 50/50 Rule
The 50/50 Rule is very basic: if the outside temperature is below 50 degrees; or we have a forecast of precipitation of 50% or more then the ride is cancelled. This will allow everyone to know that status before departing for the ride. However, don’t let this stop you from riding if you so desire.

Group Riding Seminar
Ozark Harley-Davidson is presenting a Group Riding Seminar on Saturday, August 21st starting at 1PM.

The seminar will be held in the customer lounge at the Dealership. There will be a short video to watch as well as a question and answer session. Local H.O.G. Members Lee Brown and Brian Black will be on hand to answer questions.

Weather permitting; there will be a short ride after the seminar to practice group riding.

We have started a new list for name badges. Get your name on the list now. We need 12 badges for an order. Name badges are $8.00 each. Let an officer know what name you want on your badge and we will put you on the list.

Our open house will be held at the Osage Beach Dealership this year. Our open house will be on Saturday, September 4th from 11AM-2PM. Phat Mike and the Bartenders will be set up and playing and Dog Days will be setting up to sell food and beverages. The Coyote will be on hand with a live remote and will be doing drawings for a chance to win his and her Sportsters that will be given away that day.

2010 MO State Rally Volunteer Coordinator
Sorry we missed the last gathering, we were at our son’s wedding. I was told there were questions about volunteering and I will see if I can answer them.
All registered rally attendees should have received their confirmation cards in the mail. On it is your merchandise order and your volunteer assignment. All shifts are two or less hours except the Field Events on Saturday. This could go shorter too depending on how many participate. Each rally attendee that volunteers for a shift receives as bandana with the rally logo on it. Each rally attendee that volunteers for a second shift receives a rally volunteer pin. Rally volunteers are listed with the chapter they put on their volunteer request. If you are a member of two or more chapters, the first one you list is where you get credit for. For instance, if you are a member of the Ozark Mountain Chapter of Lebanon, #2575 and Lake of the Ozarks Chapter, #1888 and you put #1888, that is where you get credit for. If you desire to volunteer for a shift other than the one you already volunteered for or wish to volunteer and have not submitted a volunteer request, come see me at the Volunteer Check In table in the vicinity of Registration.
If there are any other questions about volunteering or the rally you can contact our Assistant Director or me. My email is huskers7071@hotmail.com.

See ya at the Rally,
Brian

The Secretary's Corner
The August meeting was held on August 15th @ Ozark Harley Davidson Pavilion. We had 30 members present and no guests. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as written in the newsletter. Karen D reported that we had a beginning balance of $2252.61 with deposits of $853, expenses of $77.173 leaving an ending balance of $3028.48. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Treasurer’s report. Bill DeCastro reported that they had six riders for the Chapter Touring ride to Paducah, 23-25 July. It sounds like they all had a great time riding throughout Kentucky.
Debi presented dealership events in Missy’s absence. There will be a Group Riding Seminar at the Ozark Harley Davidson dealership on Saturday August 21st starting at 1 p.m. There will be a short video as well as a question/answer session. Weather permitting there will be a short ride after the seminar. Also on August 21st there will be a Bike Night at Ozark H-D. Registration will open at 5 p.m. and the trophy presentations will be around 7 p.m. There will be 7 classes with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place along with Best of Show. There will be an Open House held at Lake of the Ozarks Dealership in Osage Beach on 4 September from 11:00-2:00. The Open House will have live entertainment by Phat Mike and the Bartenders, food, and beverages for sale by Dog Days and for those feeling lucky, the Coyote (107.9) will be onsite with a live remote and drawings for a chance to win His and Her Sportsters. Definitely a good time will be had by all who attend.
Richard passed on some Safety tips to the group for keeping cool in the heat. He mentioned that when you expose bare skin to the sun and elements you actually dehydrate faster than if you cover up. When the skin becomes sunburned it can cause you to overheat. Wear a light weight long sleeve shirt to help or a wet bandana around the neck; drink plenty of water or sport drinks containing electrolytes. Thank you Richard, these were great tips, especially with the heat we have had so far this summer.
There will be a group leaving the Lebanon Harley Davidson on Thursday, August 26th, headed to the Missouri State Rally. If you would like to ride with this group, please be at the dealership and ready for kickstands up at 1200 sharp. Reminder: The chapter photo will be taken on Saturday, 28 August, immediately following the parade. The link up location is in the lobby of the host hotel.
Bill DeCastro is organizing a Zip line trip to Merrimack Caverns on either 11 September or 16 October. So far he has interested members signed up for either date so if you would like to participate in this adventure, please let one of the officers know or sign up at the dealership.
JR Doerr announced that Bikers for Babies will be sponsoring a ride on Saturday, 18 September. Registration will be from 0830-1100 and will be departing at 1100 am. The ride will depart Lake of the Ozarks Harley Dealership headed to Mid-America Harley Davidson in Columbia, MO. The ride will return to Lake of the Ozark Harley Dealership to enjoy the after party. Bike Fest will be held September 16-19 at Lake of the Ozarks Harley Davidson in Osage Beach. Our chapter will have a booth at the event Friday/Saturday and Sunday. This year we have added Sunday due to the Bike giveaway that will be Sunday afternoon. The chapter will be selling Snow cones and giant cookies at the booth. We will also be selling tickets and raffling off a wall hanging which Karen DeCastro made from bandanas our members donated to her for this project. If you would like to volunteer to help man our booth, please see JR Doerr or one of the other officers.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday September 19th at 11 a.m. at Ozark H-D Pavilion.

50/50 was won by Debbie Crawley
Door Prizes were won by Gary Allen, Lee Brown, and Jeanine Brown.

The meeting was adjourned and riders met in the parking lot for a safety brief by Lee Brown, before departing on the ride to Truman State Park.
