Buying A New Helmet
What to look for in a helmet
When you decide it's time for a new helmet, it is easy to arrive at the shelf and become overwhelmed by the sheer quantity and selection that is available to buy. So what should I buy?
  • Plan ahead. If you have ever tried on the nicest helmet in the shop, will will probably notice that it is also the most expensive. It is an inevitable fact that the best fitting and most comfortable helmets are the most pricey. Which often times leads to a dilemma in price vs. comfort.
  • Price vs Comfort Service Manager Dwight Klapper recommends that you try on the best helmet in the shop even if it is outside your budget. This will give you a good idea of what you should look for in a helmet as far as fit and feel. He also recommends that when you do find a style you like and a price you can afford, to try that helmet on and keep it on for at least 15 minutes to see if it rubs or causes any irritation. Remember that with price also comes better venting systems, better visors, and better paint jobs.
  • Colors! Fancy paint jobs can easily bump up the price of two helmets of the same model and manufacturer. If price is a big concern, then be sure to keep it simple. It is also important to think ahead with colors. Ask yourself, "Will I want to be wearing a jet black helmet in the middle of summer?" If the answer is no, then you may want to look for a lighter color helmet. Additionally, colorful helmets can make you easier for vehicles to spot you on the road.
  • Safety Considerations: The most important thing to consider when buying a helmet is safety. Nearly all helmet are at least DOT approved or in other words, will protect your brain in an accident. But remember that full face helmets are much more effective at protecting your face and jaw, additionally, you won't be getting bugs in your face while you ride. Most importantly, Be sure that your helmet is comfortable and attractive so that you want to wear it. What good is buying a helmet if you never want to wear it?
  • A commonly neglected part of purchasing a helmet is finding out the availability of replacement parts. Eventually, something is going to break or fall out of place in your helmet. Personally, I've lost several plastic screws on my helmet that hold the visor in place. Be sure that the helmet that you are buying will have replacement screws etc. for many years to come.

Innovative Ideas for Saddle Bags
"The Cycle Guys" A small company with creative ideas

Storing anything on a sportbike can be tough. Saddlebags and sportbikes have never really worked well together. Affordable saddlebags have always meant straps going over your seat, rubbing your bike's bodywork and ruining paint, not to mention the need to tie them down to prevent them from falling off.

All hope is not lost however, a group of businessmen have identified the problem and found solutions to the dilemma. The Cycle Guys is a small business that have created new ways of storing things on your sportbike cheaply, and without ruining your ride.

The FastPack, exclusively from The Cycle Guys Inc, is a tail bag that fits over your rear seat. When expanded, it provides lots of useful storage space, about the size of a tankbag. When collapsed and zipped up, FastPack turns into a custom, padded seat cover with a carbon-fiber look. FastPack is attached or removed in minutes, but never has to be removed from your bike. When not needed, simply zip it up and it becomes a stylish padded seat cover.

SLS Sidemount Luggage System This unique saddle bag could be your solution to the saddlebag problem. Because it uses only your bike's stock passenger footpeg brackets as mounting points, the SLS does not touch your bodywork, seat, and does not use any brackets bolted to your subframe. No drilling or modifications are necessary, and it goes on and off in a few minutes.

The LR360o (Locking Rotational 360 degree) mounting system is what makes these bags unique. Each bag's angle is fully adjustable, allowing clearance of turn signals, exhaust, and to make the bag sit at the right angle on every bike. Once locked in place, the bags don't move.
