Fishing
Buzz |
Local
salmon
fishermen
have
been
blessed
with
a
wonderful
chinook
and
coho
salmon
season
in
2010.
Fishing
has
been
absolutely
spectacular
for
nearly
everyone
with
bait
in
the
water.
Oddly
enough,
crabbing
also
remained
very
strong
in
our
late
summer
months,
and
should
only
pick
up
as
we
get
into
October.
Here
is
some
of
what
September
had
to
offer;
Salmon
-Though
many
chinook
have
continued
their
migration
up
river,
some
still
remain
in
our
inlet
waters.
Thousands
of
fish
have
been
landed
in
the
Coos
Bay-North
Bend
area,
and
even
more
have
evaded
capture.
Coho
are
now
the
focus
of
many
Northwest
fishermen,
and
they
are
coming
into
our
bays
and
inlet
waters
in
huge
numbers.
One
fisherman
caught
and
released
18
coho
in
the
Coquille
River
in
only
about
6
hours
of
fishing.
Needless
to
say,
it
was
not
hard
to
find
a
keeper.
Cut
plug
herring
seems
to
be
the
focus
for
most
trying
to
land
chinook,
while
coho
fisherman
have
been
raving
about
the
Super
Hoochie
from
North
Country
Lures
and
Flies.
The
preferred
color
by
most
of
the
fishermen
is
pink,
or
something
very
bright
in
color.
Please

Dear
“Y”
Marina
Staff,
It
has
been
a
year
since
I
have
come
to
you
to
find
an
outboard
motor
for
my
little
16
ft
smoker
craft
that
would
handle
the
heavy
winds
of
Coos
Bay.
You
were
extremely
helpful
in
getting
me
just
what
I
needed
at
a
great
price.
Since
this
time
I
have
put
hundreds
of
crabs
in
my
boat,
spent
hours
with
family
and
friends,
and
caught
more
bass
than
ever
before.
I
am
still
coming
by

Stories
from
the
Boat
Ramp |
October’s
"Story
from
the
Boat
Ramp"
comes
from
Ken
Murphy
of
Coos
Bay.
This
a
short
story
of
a
brand
new
Seaswirl
Striper
that
was
in
an
unfortunate
accident
that
happened
at
one
of
our
local
boat
ramps.
This
story
took
place
last
summer
and
is
titled
“Rough
Day
at
Empire
Ramp.”
Not
long
ago
my
uncle
and
I
were
down
at
the
Empire
boat
ramp
in
Coos
Bay
looking
for
a
limit
of
crab.
After
a
fairly
successful
tide
we
loaded
the
boat
onto
the
trailer
and
were
ready
to
head
home.
Just
before
we
left
a
man
was
launching
a
beautiful
Striper
offshore
boat
with
twin
115
HP
motors.
We
started
drooling
over
the
vessel
along
with
all
of
the
other
folks
around
and
wondered
why
a
boat
like
this
was
attempting
a
put
in
at
this
small
confined
launch.
The
offload
was
successful,
and
as
the
trailer
was
pulled
from
the
water
you
could
still
see
the
chalking
on
the
tires
giving
us
the
idea
it
was
probably
fresh
from
the
factory
and
first
time
in
the
water.
We
decided
to
hang
out
a
bit
and
watch
this
“beast”
haul
off,
and
were
not
disappointed.
The
operator
of
the
vessel
showed
off
a
bit
revving
those
engines
and
then
firing
into
reverse.
This
maneuver
made
him
promptly
slam-in
to
one
of
the
large
iron
pillars
holding
the
dock
in
place.
Startled
by
the
jolt
he
quickly
threw
it
into
drive
and
turned
away
from
the
pillar
scratching
the
whole
back
panel
and
ripping
away
a
large
piece
of
the
fiberglass.
As
he
struggled
to
get
free
of
the
dock
and
pointed
out
towards
the
bay
the
“captain”
gave
the
engines
on
last
stir
sending
his
fishing
partner
sprawling
to
the
deck.
At
this
point
we
were
all
trying
to
let
him
know
a
good
sized
chunk
of
boat
was
dragging
along
in
the
water
behind
him,
but
I
think
at
that
point
he
had
decided
to
get
to
open
water
and
lick
his
wounds
away
from
the
audience
at
the
ramp.
If
you
have
a
fun
or
interesting
story,
we
want
to
hear
about
it!
Simply
email
your
story
to
ryanlancaster@ymarinaboats.com.

email
is
not
your
thing,
feel
free
to
give
me
a
call,
541-888-5501.
I
am
always
up
for
a
good
laugh.
And
of
course,
you
will
be
rewarded
for
your
entry.
We
look
forward
to
seeing
what
you
have
to
share!

Joke
of
the
Month |
|
Sunday
School
One
recent
Sunday,
a
young
boy
arrived
to
his
Sunday
school
class
late.
His
teacher
knew
that
the
boy
was
usually
very
prompt
and
asked
him
if
anything
was
wrong.
The
boy
replied
no,
that
he
was
going
to
go
fishing,
but
that
his
dad
told
him
that
he
needed
to
go
to
church
instead.
The
teacher
was
very
impressed
and
asked
the
boy
if
his
father
had
explained
to
him
why
it
was
more
important
to
go
to
church
rather
than
to
go
fishing.
To
which
the
boy
replied,
"Yes,
ma'am,
he
did.
My
dad
said
that
he
didn't
have
enough
bait
for
both
of
us."
