BMW’s updating its worthy roadsters with the same DOHC, 1170cc, eight-valve, opposed-twin engine the R1200GS and R1200RT got last year. That means power and torque on the 2011 BMW R1200R are up to 110bhp and 88lb/ft. But the big story here are the slightly revised looks, which add a K1300-style tail lamp and some new creases in the bodywork that should help the bike look more attractive without alienating the model’s core pipe-and-slippers demographic. Attention traditionalists, BMW hasn’t forgotten about you, there’s also a mechanically identical but even more conservatively styled 2011 BMW R1200R Classic.

In 2008, BMW returned its old F 650 GS — first launched in 2000 — to market after a short absence, but called it the BMW G 650 GS. This year, they’re bringing out a new model, the 2011 BMW G 650 GS. It’s the old bike with some updated looks, updated ergonimics, and the very same engine- only now made in Berlin.
The 2011 model quite literally is the same as the 2000 model. Same frame, same engine, same suspension, same brakes, same just-about everything except for the new headlight, minor ergos, and various bodywork. Look for the 2011 BMW G 650 GS beginning this winter!

Those who were lucky enough to make it to Cologne in Germany for the Intermot Motorcycle Show witnessed the launch of something special – the world premieres of the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL tourers of the future, featuring the lightest and most compact 6-cylinder inline engines in series motorcycle production.
BMW touring bike fans can now access ‘The Future of Touring' directly from BMW's website. Current content includes full screen videos; a series of interviews with Vice President of Motorcycle Design David Robb, who provides a unique insight into the fascinating design process of the new K1600 models. Detailed technical specification is also available about both machines, including drivetrain, chassis, electronics, body, design, equipment and accessories. There are also inspirational films that capture the essence of each model, and a choice of wallpapers that are available for download, from early concept design sketches to beautifully lit studio portraits. Triumph Tiger 800 & Tiger 800XC Adventure Cub
It’s no secret that Triumph is gunning for the mid-capacity GS with its new Triumph Tiger 800, but with these photos, we can see just how similar the two bikes are.
-800cc water-cooled engine - Steel tube frame -Black-painted motor - Contoured black alloy swingarm with silver adjusters -High-mount, single-side exhaust can - 21-inch front wheel, 17-inch rear - Chain final drive - Steel tube pillion peg hangers permanently welded to tubular steel subframe - Huge steel tube grab handles that run parallel to the rear seat - Rear luggage platform - Lack of engine sump/exhaust protection - Radiator wider than the frame -Long black air-intakes mounted on top of the “tank - Dual headlights housed in black plastic surrounds - Contoured screen mounted to the lights - Abbreviated front mudguard - Front fender extended rearwards to protect the radiator - Gold USD forks - Four-piston calipers and dual front discs -
Indeed the only significant mechanical difference between the two bikes — other than the Triumph’s three-cylinder engine to the BMW’s parallel twin — appears to be in the fuel tank, which on the BMW is mounted under the seat. It does look like the Tiger adds a shock linkage to the BMW’s direct-mount item. Then there’s the seat, Triumph pull the two-parter off a 1200GS, not the 800. Hooray. Can you spot any other similarities?

Ahhhh! Don’t be frightened, that’s not a big spider, it’s just the 2011 Triumph Speed Triple. Aside from the new headlights what’s the news? Well, it’s lost 5lbs and gained 7bhp and 6lb/ft. That weight has been lost thanks to an all-new aluminum chassis that also shift the riding position a tad forwards; Triumph’s claiming improved handling. ABS is now optional as well.
The 2011 Speed Triple now makes 135bhp of smooth, effortless power at 9,400rpm and 82lb/ft of torque at 7,750rpm. Weight is now 214kg/472 (wet). Compare those figures to 128bhp at 9,250rpm, 76lb/ft at 7,550rpm and 217kg/477lbs for the outgoing model.
1kg/2.2lbs has allegedly been shed by each wheel, reducing unsprung weight and the new 43mm USD forks are fully adjustable.
There’s also new clocks and digital dash and the braking and control systems receive the blacked out treatment. Other visual changes include bronze rather than black forks, topped with red instead of blue adjusters. The leading edge of the tank is now clad in black plastic. The biggest visual alteration remains those new headlights. Likely to prove controversial, they’re the first departure from round since the Speed Triple when all googly-eyed back in 1997.

Regardless of precise mechanical spec, the biggest changes here are the new looks and the addition of optional ABS, likely to prove popular with people who see the Triple as a practical sportsbike and use their bikes for commuting as well as recreation.

Triumph Daytona 675R: surpise, an up-rated triple you weren’t expecting!
If this was an Aprilia we’d be calling it a Factory and if it was a Ducati we’d be tacking an ‘S’ onto the end, instead it’s the Triumph Daytona 675R and shots of it have leaked ahead of its official EICMA debut.
The big fear when images of the Triumph Daytona 675R leaked was that the Ohlins suspension would be the cheap OEM stuff that’s more about bling than it is mechanical upgrade. This is NOT the case, rather the new Daytona 675R proudly wears an Ohlins TTX36 shock and the latest/greatest Ohlins NIX30 forks, carbon front mudguard, Brembo monoblock race calipers, Brembo radial master cylinder, standard quickshifter, and a red subframe. Wait, what?
Because this information was leaked, there’s no official specs so we don’t know if the 675R gains any extra power over the everyday Daytona’s 124bhp and 53lb/ft, but there really doesn’t need to be. At just 185kg/407lbs (wet), the little Triumph is so light and slim and its engine so torquey and characterful that you won’t want for anything more. You weren’t wanting for more handling either, which is why the R is such a surprise. Still no word on the price.
