Ride
-
50/50
Rule |
|
The
50/50
Rule
is
very
basic:
if
the
outside
temperature
is
below
50
degrees;
or
we
have
a
forecast
of
precipitation
of
50%
or
more
then
the
ride
is
cancelled.
This
will
allow
everyone
to
know
that
status
before
departing
for
the
ride.
However,
don’t
let
this
stop
you
from
riding
if
you
so
desire.

Chapter
Challenge
Make
sure
that
you
pick
up
your
2011
Chapter
Challenge
booklet
at
the
next
meeting
if
you
have
not.
This
is
going
to
be
an
exciting
year
for
all
of
us.
Our
first
Chapter
Challenge
ride
will
be
after
the
March
meeting
(hopefully-weather
depending).
As
a
reminder
you
do
not
have
to
print
all
your
pictures
on
separate
paper,
you
can
print
4
or
5
on
1
page
to
save
money.
We
will
be
doing
rides
throughout
the
year
to
places
listed
in
the
Chapter
Challenge
booklet
so
don’t
forget
to
bring
them
with
you
to
each
meeting
and
have
any
officer
sign
off
on
them.
If
you
have
any
questions
or
if
you
have
suggestions
for
rides,
shoot
me
an
email.
Hopefully
the
weather
will
break
soon
and
we
can
all

Even
though
we
are
having
a
few
snow
days,
there
are
those
of
us
who
are
still
riding
and
on
a
few
occasions
you
are
riding
in
a
group.
In
the
group
there
is
always
someone
who
is
the
“leader
of
the
Pack”,
or
had
been
voted
to
be
one
because
he/she
showed
up
late.
But
anyway,
here
are
a
few
tips
to
keep
in
mind
when
riding
as
a
group
no
matter
how
short
or
long
the
ride
will
be:
1)
About
10
minutes
out
of
Kick
Stands
Up
time
(KSU)
call
everyone
together.
2)
Welcome
everyone
to
the
ride
and
tell
all
who
you
are
in
case
there
are
new
riders
in
the
group.
3)
Remind
everyone
they
will
need
a
full
tank
and
empty
bladder.
4)
Introduce
the
mid
and
sweep
road
captains.
5)
Brief
everyone
where
we
are
going,
the
route
and
speed
to
get
there
along
with
the
formation.
6)
Demo
the
hand,
arm
and
foot
signals
for
the
ride:
Ask
that
everyone
knows
to
pass
on
the
signals.
7)
Cover
procedures
for
problems,
break-downs
or
accidents.
8)
Request
that
any
new
group
riders,
less
experienced
or
slow
riders,
to
ride
in
the
rear
of
the
formation.
9)
Encourage
everyone
to
ride
within
their
own
abilities.
10)
Encourage
anyone
seeing
problems
during
the
ride
to
let
you
know
at
the
next
stop.
11)
Potential
Road
Hazards:
a)
Construction,
b)
Areas
where
dirt,
gravel
and
sand
are
on
the
road,
c)
grave
or
dirt
parking
lots
you
intend
on
stopping.
12)
Line
everyone
up
and
head
them
out… Ride
and
Have
Fun,

A
Note
From
Your
Director |
|
Hello
everyone
:)
I
am
not
used
to
writing
an
article,
usually
I
just
put
the
newsletter
together
so
this
is
all
new
to
me.
I
hope
that
this
finds
you
all
well.
With
all
the
snow
that
we
have
had
over
the
last
couple
of
weeks
and
all
the
snow
that
is
in
the
forecast,
I
am
sure
that
everyone
is
getting
stir
crazy
just
like
Brian
and
I
are.
First
let
me
say
Thank
You
to
those
that
put
your
trust
in
me
as
your
Director
for
this
year.
I
have
lots
of
people
that
I
know
I
can
lean
on
to
include
all
the
officer’s
for
this
year.
Second,
I
would
like
to
thank
all
the
officer’s
for
their
on
going
support
for
me
and
this
chapter.
Last
but
not
least,
thank
you
to
Jack
and
Uncle
Neal
for
giving
us
a
place
to
call
home
for
our
chapter.
They
have
spent
so
much
time,
hard
work
and
money
to
make
the
pavilion
a
great
place
for
us
to
come
together
as
a
family.
I
would
also
like
to
reiterate
what
I
said
at
the
meeting.
This
is
YOUR
chapter.
If
you
have
something
that
you
would
like
to
see
happen
or
if
you
have
any
suggestions
on
anything—please
let
one
of
the
officer’s
know.
We
want
this
to
be
a
fun
and
exciting
year
and
we
need
all
of
you
to
make
that
happen.
We
will
start
working
on
a
plan
to
help
the
Lake
of
the
Ozarks
Chapter
and
the
Missouri
State
Rally
team
make
the
2011
Missouri
State
Rally
at
Tan
Tara
the
best
ever—if
you
have
any
ideas,
I
know
the
Rally
Coordinator
pretty
well
so
I
can
pass
them
on
to
him.
For
now—have
a
great
rest
of
the
month
and
we
will
see
you
in
February.

Note |

Greetings
One
and
All,
Hope
the
snow
and
cold
weather
hasn't
effected
anyone
in
to
negative
a
fashion.
Was
very
pleased
with
the
turn-out
for
the
1st
Meeting
of
the
year
and
we
had
a
good
turn-out
at
Dowd's
for
lunch
after
the
meeting.
We
had
3
new
members
and
I'd
like
to
welcome
them
to
our
Chapter.
Jack
and
Neil
have
done
an
awesome
job
on
the
Pavilion
and
they
deserve
much
thanks
for
all
there
hard
work
and
for
giving
us
a
place
to
call
"Home"
Thank
you
very
much
gentlemen.
I
am
definitely
looking
forward
to
working
with
all
our
new
Officer's
this
year
and
know
we
are
going
to
have
a
great
year.
Everyone
needs
to
remember
that
you
the

make
up
our
Chapter
and
if
there
is
anything
that
you
want
to
do
as
a
Chapter
by
all
means
feel
free
to
relay
it
to
any
of
us
Officers
and
we
will
try
our
best
to
make
it
happen.
We
expect
to
see
a
good
number
of
y'all
at
the

and
as
an

us
Officer's
are
gonna
entice
ya
at
the

by

Big
Kudos
to
Rebecca

Dani
for

at

it
was
sure
appreciated
and
whoever
warmed
things
up
by
firing
up
the
heaters
and
the
fireplace
THANK
YOU.
Well
I
guess
before
I
start
rambling
to
much
I'll
leave
ya
all
with
a
joke.
An
Officer
pulled
over
a
motorist
and
smelled
alcohol
when
the
driver
rolled
down
the
window
so
he
asked
the
driver"
sir
have
you
been
drinking"
to
which
the
driver
replied
without
missing
a
beat
Officer
your
eyes
are
glazed
have
you
been
eating
donuts,
and
with
that
I'm
outta

They
are

this

called
the
“Introductory

It
is
not
a
course
to
learn
to

but
rather
an
introductory
experience
to
a
motorcycle,
its
controls
and
operation.
It
is
2
hours
long
and
will
help
one
to

whether
learning

is
right
for
them.
The
closest

Now,
I’d

to

a
couple
of

I’m

this

The
Spring

will
be
April
2,
2011.
We
will
meet
at
11:00
AM
and
take
10-15
minutes
to
review
T-CLOCS,
the
pre

checklist.
I
will
have
a
copy
for
each
rider
present.
Then
we
will
ride
to
Hill

Pizza
in
Fair

for
lunch.
They
have
pizza,
pasta,

The

is
42

Next,
is
the

The
ride
is
about
285

We
will
stop
for

and
take

of
about
15

during
the

We
will

nights
of
20th
and
21st
and
will

May

I
am
staying
at
the

I
have

that
from
me.
World

and
they
have
a

which

away.
This
is
also
a
good
opportunity
to

evening
before
the
event/function
(cooking,
decorations,
etc).
2)
One
point
will
be
awarded
if
a
family
emergency
comes
up
AFTER
you
have
started
volunteering.
Ensure
you
make
contact
with
any
chapter
member
and
state
you
have
a
family
emergency
and
they
will
notify
the
chairperson.
3)
If
you
are
injured
during
your
shift/job,
seek
medical
assistance
and
ensure
the
injury
is
reported
to
the
Chairperson
or
Chapter
Officer
so
a
report
will
be
started.
NOTE:
All
other
special
circumstances
will
be
directed
to
the
event
Chairperson
or
Chapter
Officer
for
resolution.
Please
mark
your
calendar
for
any,
hopefully
all,
of
the
upcoming
events
and
let
the
Chairperson
or
any
officer
know
of
your
wish
not
only
to
attend
but
you
would
like
to
volunteer
to
help.
I
won’t
go
in
depth
on
all
of
them
at
this
time,
but
know
your
help
is
needed:
19
Feb
noon-3pm..
the
COPE
Chili
Cook-Off
is
being
chaired
by
our
Sponsor
Melissa
and
Debi
but
they
could
use
the
help
to
set
up
and
run
the
booth
area.
Set
up
is
from
8am-1130.
Feb’s
Chapter
meeting
will
be
followed
by
a
pot
luck
meal
being
hosted
by
the
Chapter
Officers.
It’s
our
way
to
show
thank
you
for
putting
your
trust
in
our
leadership
for
2011.
26
Mar-1pm
at
the
Pavilion
will
be
Road
Captain
training,
so
at
the
Feb
meeting
please
sign
up
so
we
can
all
see
what
right
looks
like
in
not
only
planning
a
ride
but
executing
the
ride
successfully.
I
know
a
lot
of
you
have
some
awesome
ideas
for
routes
and
ride
locations,
so
come
out
for
the
training
and
have
some
fun.
I’ll
end
this
month’s
newsletter
with
the
2
Apr
Spring
into
Riding
Ride.
At
the
last
meeting
there
were
a
good
handful
of
riders
who
signed
up,
but
there’s
always
room
for
more
names
.

The
Truth
About
Motorcycles> |
Cold!
There
is
cold,
and
the
there
is
cold
on
a
motorcycle.
Cold
on
a
motorcycle
is
like
being
beaten
with
cold
hammers
while being
kicked
with
cold
boots,
a
bone
bruising
cold.
The
wind's
big
hands squeeze
the
heat
out
of
my
body
and
whisk
it
away;
caught
in
a
cold October
rain,
the
drops
don't
even
feel
like
water.
They
feel
like
shards
of
sharp
bone
fallen
from
the
skies
of
Hell
to
shred
my
face.
I
expect
to arrive
with
my
cheeks
and
forehead
streaked
with
blood,
but
that's
just
an illusion,
just
the
misery
of
nerves
not
designed
for
highway
speeds.
Despite
this,
it's
hard
to
give
up
my
motorcycle
in
the
fall
and
I rush
to
get
it
on
the
road
again
in
the
spring;
lapses
of
sanity
like
this are
common
among
motorcyclists.
When
you
let
a
motorcycle
into
your
life you're
changed
forever.
The
letter
"M"
is
stamped
on
your
driver's
license
right
next
to
your
sex
and
weight
as
if
"motorcycle"
was
just
another
of
your
physical
characteristics,
or
maybe
a
mental
condition.
But
when
warm
weather
finally
does
come
around
all
those
cold
snaps and
rainstorms
are
paid
in
full
because
a
summer
is
worth
any
price.
A
motorcycle
is
not
just
a
two-wheeled
car;
the
difference
between
driving
a
car
and
climbing
onto
a
motorcycle
is
the
difference
between watching
TV
and
actually
living
your
life.
We
spend
all
our
time
sealed
in boxes'
and
cars
are
just
the
rolling
boxes
that
shuffle
us
from
home-box
to
work-box
to
store-box
and
back,
the
whole
time,
entombed
in
stale
air, temperature
regulated,
sound
insulated,
and
smelling
of
carpets.
On
a
motorcycle
I
know
I'm
alive.
When
I
ride,
even
the
familiar seems
strange
and
glorious.
The
air
has
weight
and
substance
as
I
push through
it
and
its
touch
is
as
intimate
as
water
to
a
swimmer.
I
feel
the cool
wells
of
air
that
pool
under
trees
and
the
warm
spokes
of
sun
that
fall
through
them.
I
can
see
everything
in
a
sweeping
360
degrees,
up, down
and
around,
wider
than
Pana-Vision
and
IMAX
and
unrestricted
by ceiling
or
dashboard.
Sometimes
I
even
hear
music.
It's
like
hearing
phantom
telephones
in the
shower
or
false
doorbells
when
vacuuming;
the
pattern-loving
brain, seeking
signals
in
the
noise,
raises
acoustic
ghosts
out
of
the
wind's roar.
But
on
a
motorcycle
I
hear
whole
songs:
rock
'n
roll,
dark
orchestras,
women's
voices,
all
hidden
in
the
air
and
released
by
speed.
At
30
miles
per
hour
and
up,
smells
become
uncannily
vivid.
All
the individual
tree-
smells
and
flower-
smells
and
grass-smells
flit
by
like chemical
notes
in
a
great
plant
symphony.
Sometimes
the
smells
evoke
memories
so
strongly
that
it's
as
though the
past
hangs
invisible
in
the
air
around
me,
wanting
only
the
most
casual
of
rumbling
time
machines
to
unlock
it.
A
ride
on
a
summer afternoon
can
border
on
the
rapturous.The
sheer
volume
and
variety
of
stimuli
is
like
a
bath
for
my
nervous system,
an
electrical
massage
for
my
brain,
a
systems
check
for
my
soul.
It
tears
smiles
out
of
me:
a
minute
ago
I
was
dour,
depressed
apathetic numb,
but
now,
on
two
wheels,
big,
ragged,
windy
smiles
flap
against
the side
of
my
face,
billowing
out
of
me
like
air
from
a
decompressing
plane.
Transportation
is
only
a
secondary
function.
A
motorcycle
is
a
joy machine.
It's
a
machine
of
wonders,
a
metal
bird,
a
motorized
prosthetic. It's
light
and
dark
and
shiny
and
dirty
and
warm
and
cold
lapping
over each
other;
it's
a
conduit
of
grace,
it's
a
catalyst
for
bonding
the gritty
and
the
holy.
I
still
think
of
myself
as
just
another
rider,
but
by
now
I've
had
a handful
of
bikes
over
a
couple
dozen
years
and
slept
under
my
share
of bridges.
I
wouldn't
trade
one
second
of
either
the
good
times
or
the misery.
Learning
to
ride
was
one
of
the
best
things
I've
ever
done.
Cars
lie
to
us
and
tell
us
we're
safe,
powerful,
and
in
control.
The
air-conditioning
fans
murmur
empty
assurances
and
whisper,
"Sleep,
sleep."
Motorcycles
tell
us
a
more
useful
truth:
we
are
small
and
exposed, and
probably
moving
too
fast
for
our
own
good,
but
that's
no
reason
not
to enjoy
every
minute
of
the
ride.

The
Secretary's
Corner |
|
The
January
meeting
was
called
to
order
by
our
new
Director,
Tammie
Black.
We
had
quite
a
few
members
in
attendance.
There
were
three
new
members
introduced
at
the
meeting,
Jake
Harris,
Roland
Brooks
and
Lyn
Dunn.
Welcome
to
our
chapter
and
family.
Treasurer,
Melissa
Jemes
stated
that
we
had
a
balance
of
$2,185.12
in
our
account.
The
Treasurer's
report
was
approved
and
seconded
as
presented.
Secretary,
Debbie
Crawley
There
were
no
December
minutes
published
in
the
newsletter
so
I
proposed
we
accept
the
newsletter
as
it
was
published.
Motion
was
made
and
second
was
given.
Head
Road
Captain/Activities
Officer,
JD
(Mike)
O’Rourke
JD
introduced
himself
and
passed
out
business
cards.
He
asked
that
we
offer
help
and
guidance
to
make
him
successful
in
his
office.
He
mentioned
that
if
anyone
would
like
to
lead
a
ride,
provide
him
with
suggested
dates,
ride
locations
and
times.
Road
Captain
training
will
be
held
at
1
p.m.
on
26
March
at
the
pavilion.
He
mentioned
that
the
St
Robert
American
Legion
will
be
hosting
an
indoor
poker
run
on
5
Feb
beginning
at
6pm.
This
event
is
open
to
everyone.
Safety
Officer,
Joe
Caufield
Joe
made
everyone
aware
that
there
are
many
potholes
in
the
roads
and
during
the
winter
month’s
roads
are
treated
with
various
substances;
please
pay
attention
to
the
road
surface.
The
yellow
stripes
on
the
roads
can
get
slick
in
the
winter
months
so
use
caution
and
Pedestrians
are
bundled
up
which
will
hinder
their
line
of
sight
so
be
careful
because
they
could
unexpectedly
dart
into
the
road
and
not
see
you.
Joe
is
planning
a
destination
ride
to
Beale
Street
in
Memphis,
TN
20-22
May.
There
will
be
a
sign
up
sheet
at
the
next
couple
of
meetings
for
anyone
interested
in
making
this
trip.
Joe
also
has
a
listing
of
hotels
and
rates.
Saturday,
2
Apr
there
will
be
a
Spring
into
Riding
ride
to
Hilltop
Pizza
in
Fair
Grove,
MO
immediately
following
TCLOKS
on
your
bike
which
begins
at
11am
at
the
dealership
parking
lot.
Ladies
of
Harley/Historian,
Lisa
O’Rourke
Lisa
introduced
herself
and
asked
for
pictures
of
events
for
the
scrapbook.
Photographer,
Ingrid
Sundquist
Ingrid
was
home
with
her
adorable
granddaughter,
Kristie
so
Tammie
asked
everyone
to
take
pictures
of
events
and
turn
them
into
Ingrid
and
Lisa
so
we
can
capture
all
the
fun
things
we
do
this
year.
Chapter
Challenge,
Brian
Black
Announced
the
chapter
challenge
books
are
ready.
He
explained
the
chapter
challenge
is
based
on
the
ABCs
of
touring
and
the
rules
can
be
found
on
the
back
of
the
chapter
challenge
books.
He
also
mentioned
that
the
book
must
be
in
each
photo
to
get
credit.
He
told
everyone
they
could
print
their
pictures
on
plain
paper
4-6
to
a
page
to
cut
down
on
cost.
Brian
is
the
Rally
coordinator
for
this
year’s
state
rally
and
will
be
very
busy
ensuring
this
is
the
best
rally
ever.
Kudos
Brian
for
taking
on
this
job.
JR
Doerr
asked
who
could
sign
off
on
Chapter
Challenge
booklets
for
events,
rides,
meetings,
volunteering,
etc.
Brian
said
any
Primary
Officer
or
himself
can

Rebecca
and
Dani
for
making
hot
chocolate
and
coffee
at
the

It
was
so
yummy.
We
have
309
members
in
our
chapter.
Of
this
number
255
are
men
and
54
are
women.
Melissa
is
showing
that
only
13
of
the
54
women
on
her
list
are
registered
as
LOH.
If
you
are
a
member
of
LOH,
please
let
her
know
so
she
can
add
your
name
to
the
list.
She
also
announced
the
dealership
will
be
participating
in
the
COPE
Chili
cook-off
again
this
year
at
the
Cowan
Civic
Center
in
Lebanon
on
19
February.
For
those
who
don’t
know
what
COPE
is,
it
is
a
home
for
victims
of
domestic
violence.
If
you
wish
to
participate,
help
set
up
or
man
the
booth,
contact
either
Melissa
or
Jenna.
Assistant
Director,
JR
Doerr
reminded
everyone
about
the
State
Rally
being
held
at
Lake
of
the
Ozarks,
MO
this
year.
Tan-Tara
Resort
will
be
the
host
hotel
for
this
event
on
25-27
August
and
they
are
taking
reservations.
Made
an
announcement
that
everyone
was
welcomed
to
meet
at
Dowd’s
for
lunch
following
the
meeting.
He
also
asked
that
if
you
think
you
might
attend
an
event
please
sign
up
so
those
planning
the
event
can
plan
accordingly.
JR
suggested
we
plan
after
meeting
rides
to
Chapter
Challenge
locations.
Director,
Tammie
Black
Welcomed
everyone
to
our
first
meeting
of
the
new
year
and
thanked
everyone
for
the
support.
She
asked
for
our

as
she
takes
on
her
new
role
as
our
Director.
She
introduced
each
officer
in
turn
after
they
addressed
the
members.
She
announced
the
February

is
the
most
accurate
and
up
to
date.
Events/rides
are
changed
here
as
they
occur.
If
you
are
a
member
of
both
our
chapter
and
the
Lake

you
can
see
what
is
happening
at
both
dealerships
and
chapters
at
this
website.

to
everyone.
State
Rally
Volunteering.
The
question
was
posed
to
Brian
about
volunteering
at
the
state
rally
and
receiving
credit.
I
you
volunteer
two
different
times,
can
you
get
credit
for
one
in
Lebanon
and
the
other
at
the
Lake
Chapters.
The
answer
was
when
you
fill
out
your
form
online;
whichever
chapter
you
put
first
is
the
one
that
you
get
credit
for.
Brian
suggested
members
may
want
to
speak
with
Dennis
Price,
the
state
rally
volunteer
coordinator
this
year.
He
may
be
able
to
initial
the
chapter
challenge
booklets
to
reflect
volunteering
for
both
chapters.
50-50
was
won
by
Lee
Brown
whose
only
comment
was,
“It
only
took
me
3
years
to
win”.
