Service
Tech
Tip
#1
It
is
vitally
important
that
you
use
the
correct
octane
(grade)
of
gasoline
in
your
Ski-Doo
snowmobile
or
severe
engine
damage
can
occur
and
poor
performance
can
be
experienced.
Most
2-stroke
Ski-Doo
sleds
require
91
octane
minimum.
It
is
fine
to
use
92
or
93
octane
in
these
sleds
as
well.
But
absolutely
do
not
use
lower
octane
than
recommended.
This
will
cause
excessive
combustion
chamber
temperatures,
sometimes
referred
to
as
pinging
or
pre-ignition,
and
will
result
in
internal
engine
damage
Always
refer
to
your
owner’s
manual
or
contact
us
for
the
most
current
information
on
this.
One
last
tip
on
gasoline.
Most
gasoline
that
is
sold
at
filling
stations
contains
up
to
10%
ethanol
in
it.
Try
to
stay
away
from
this
if
you
have
a
choice.
Ethanol
when
added
to
gasoline
lowers
power
output
of
your
engine
and
also
reduces
gas
mileage.
Simply
put,
it
does
not
do
anything
positive
for
your
sleds
engine
or
its’
performance.

about
off
season
storage
and
what
effects
this
has
on
gasoline.

All
Ski-Doo
2-stroke
sleds
use
one
of
three
BRP
XPS
oil
types.
Mineral
(white
container)
oil
is
for
older
2-stroke
with
carburetors.
Blended,
also
known
as
semi-synthetic
(black
container)
oil
is
used
in
newer
2-strokes
with
carburetors
as
well
as
600
HO
SDI
and
600
HO
ETEC
engines.
Synthetic
(yellow
container)
oil
is
used
in
800
R
ETEC
and
can
be
used
in
some
other
models
also.
It
is
not
recommended
to
mix
these
different
types.
