Rolling thunder XXIV
Annual Memorial Weekend Demonstration
Sunday May 29, 2011, will be the 24th annual demonstration for POW/MIA awareness. In 1987 a group of Vietnam Veterans got together and discussed their concern about the POW/MIA’s and the lack of attention given to their issues. They decided to hold their first demonstration on Memorial Weekend in 1988. They had approximately 2500 motorcycles in participation and the march was announced by the roar of the motorcycles and described as the sound of thunder. Thus, the name “Rolling Thunder” was adopted. Since then the participation has grown to over 900,000 motorcycles from all over the country. Rides from area motorcycle dealerships leave early Sunday morning and meet up at the North Pentagon parking lot. The main march/demonstration leaves the Pentagon around noon and passes through the streets of Washington DC with throngs of people cheering and waiving USA and POW flags in support of this patriotic demonstration. The Rolling Thunder Organization is a non-profit organization that works to publicize the POW/MIA issue and make the public more aware of the many Americans left behind after past wars. But they also provide financial aid, food, clothing and more to veterans, homeless veterans, and veterans families in need. They visit hospitals and nursing homes nationwide and give support to those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. So remember, as you see the motorcycles passing by over Memorial Weekend that they will continue to ride until “ALL POW/MIA’s ARE ACCOUNTED FOR”

The peanut tank, chopped front fender and solo seat give it its bobber look while its big twin torque response gives it great power for quick launches. This 1203 cc engine has lighter than expected steering. With forward controls, low seat height and mirrors mounted under the handlebars, this is a sporty bike that is fun to ride and makes a great starter bike! Stop by and check one out today!

2011 Police Demo Bikes Available
Once again Battley Harley-Davidson has been able to use its buying power to secure Brand New 2011 Police Demo Electra Glides and Road Kings. Staff Corner
A new face at the service counter!
Matt “Chicago” Urban

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Matt just happened upon his position here at Battley. During a winter visit he stopped by to pick up a t-shirt and started talking to Conway. Upon learning of a position about to open up he jumped at the chance to work in a new location. “Chicago is flat”, comments Matt, “I like the twisties and there are plenty of hills and curves around here”. Matt began on dirt bikes and quads and now rides an 03 Yamaha R6. He graduated from MMI in 2006 trained in the metric bikes and has been working as a service writer. Matt started here in February and says he felt welcomed and appreciated from day one. He does miss his family and of course Chicago Deep Dish Pizza but doesn’t regret the move one bit.
