Insider Scoop:
Spencer Shaw
West Edmonton
Accessory Sales
Hello everyone! My name is Spencer Shaw, the accessories Guru of the West Edmonton Motor Sports building and I’m here to get you pumped up for the upcoming sled season by introducing you to some of the new gear available this season. There are new additions to our avalanche safety gear collections by ABS and Ortovox as well as the introduction to an entirely new brand, 509. I’m just as excited to familiarize you with the new gear as I am to get neck deep into powder!

First thing's first, for all you high marking and boon docking junkies, let’s talk avalanche airbags. We carry the dual bag, ABS avalanche airbags for their cutting edge innovation and incomparable success rate of 97%. Saving lives for 30 years, ABS is the first to introduce carbon fiber canisters which reduce canister weight by 50%, as well as wireless activation triggers that enable a single rider to activate other rider’s airbags from up to 300 meters away! After the success of the Vario series that featured interchangeable storage covers, ABS has created a lighter, more compact version called the Powder Line. Weighing only 2.2kg the Powder line allows you to wear a seemingly weightless avalanche pack without compromising the agility of your ride. These bags look great and are on display at our West and South Edmonton Locations right now- check them out!

Avalanches are a scary thing, and given that having an avalanche pack isn’t a 100% guarantee, it's good to be prepared with the best equipment for finding buried riders. Ortovox offers all sorts of avalanche safety equipment like shovels and probes but are most renowned for their unmatched avalanche transceivers. New and improved for this year specifically is the S1+ Scanner. For the first time, you are equipped with a transceiver that will benefit YOU when buried in an avalanche (instead of relying only on the transceivers of the other people you're riding with). Set-up with Ortovox’s patented SMART ANTENNAE, the S1+ is able to automatically switch to the optimal transmission antennae making the transceiver emit the best possible signal, allowing you to be found much more quickly and easily no matter the burial position! Features like a 55 meter search range, multi-burial search capability and motion sensors that allow the beacon to automatically switch back into transmit mode when dormant makes the S1+ the top of the line beacon to have during an emergency avalanche situation.

Last and certainly not least, Martin Motor Sports has just become Edmonton’s EXCLUSIVE 509 dealer! 509 offers some of the most entertaining sled videos out there and is perhaps even more well known for their helmet and goggle collection. Not only are these products totally cutting edge in their shapes and graphics, they're also designed specifically for snowmobilers in fit and performance, including the Aviator and Sinister goggles which are made to fit snowmobile helmets and are a definite must-have for this season. Definitely come check these products out at the sled show Oct 21-23 because they look incredible! Also, reintroduced for this season is 509’s FOG FAN; a humidity sensing fan that pulls fog out of your goggles so that you can have more time tearing up the mountain or trail!

Here at Martin Motor Sports, getting you suited up with the most appropriate gear is just the beginning. It’s really important to us that we tell you everything you need and want to know about your accessories and are able to utilize your gear to its fullest potential! So as always, if you have any questions please give us a shout. From goggles to avalanche safety equipment and everything in between we are your snowmobile pro shop for the 2011/2012 season. Accessory Of The Month:
Martin Motor Sports is proud to be your exclusive Edmonton dealer for 509 Helmets & Goggles!
Pictured above are the first of the 2012 509 Helmets and Goggles! 509 is the epitome of cutting edge style and its snowmobile-specific application makes it the brand to have this year on the mountain. So let’s start with helmets. Catering to the high level of movement snowmobilers are famous for, the 509 Evolution Helmet offers 10 different ventilation points, a washable liner, a breath box, and even includes FREE lifetime visor replacements! It doesn’t get better than that for any aggressive rider!

Not to be outdone, the 509 Sinister and Aviator goggles are just as incredible. While there are lots of great looking goggles and lenses, the 509 fit is really what makes these goggles great. Called the Perfect Fit System, both the Sinister and Aviator goggles feature oversized foam around the frame which means the gaps are filled between your helmet and goggle. Yep. That means way less chance of frost bite around the eyes, and the features don’t stop there. Hinged straps on both sides means the goggle can sit deeper in the helmet forming a much better seal around your face, making it that much more difficult for air and moisture to fog your lens. Topped with a lifetime frame warranty, removable nose mask and 15 different lens options- 509 has you covered this snowmobile season.

Visit our 509 Booth at the ASA Show this weekend (Oct 21-23) for incredible deals on these must-haves for winter!

Tech Tip Of The Month:
ATV Maintenance Tips Just In Time For Hunting Season!
Hunting season is upon us and those of you who can't stand having their machine fail on them when that perfect buck is in sight should read this because lord knows that you'd never live it down if a buddy was dragging out what should have been yours.

- Always carry a spare set of spark plugs and a belt. Sure that gas station you've been going to for years has always had the best gas, but the one time you'll REALLY need that superb gasoline is the one time that fueling truck filled those pumps with some bad fuel, so it wouldn’t hurt to stock a bottle of gas line antifreeze as well to absorb the water in that fuel.

- Make sure those clutches are clean. I'm not talking mirror finish here people, I'm talking "I don't wanna blow an expensive belt" clean. Sure you may think that with your fancy snorkel kits water and debris doesn't get in there, but that's exactly how it catches you by surprise in the bush. This is where a spare belt comes in handy. You wouldn't believe how many units come in with filthy clutches and people always asking "why am I going through belts and my buddy isn't when we've got the same quad?"

- Ask yourself this: "How old is my battery?” In today's day and age with all the performance enhancements and technology added to these quads it sure doesn't take much to put them into limp mode electrically. Bring your quad on in, we'll load test the battery for you, scan the codes in your unit and see exactly how often you are going into limp mode because of it. It's better to spend a little bit of money for peace of mind, than to be ridiculed by your buddies because they’ve had to pull you out of the bush especially over something like a battery.

- OVERHEAT!!! Everyone hates seeing this roll across the screen on their unit. Maybe it's time to consider that new rad relocate kit as an early Christmas present to yourself. When we call and ask people how their quad is running with the new kit I can actually hear them smiling as they say "it's never ran better, thank you". If a rad relocate is not in the budget right now because the wife wants a new pair of shoes before you put money into your toy, then try this- take your garden hose and put the setting on the softest you can before it's a mist and really soak the back side of your radiator. Most guys will wash just the front of the rads and think they are good, trust us when we say this is not the case. Making sure that rad is spotless before every ride will ensure that it does not swell up and cost you a heck of a lot more in the near future. We cannot stress enough, do not spray the back side with full pressure, you run the risk of bending your fins which will restrict the airflow just as bad as leaving it plugged with mud.

- MAINTENANCE SOON!!! This is second most annoying thing to roam across your screen when you are trying to enjoy your ride. The only way to clear this off the screen is through a BRP dealer. It sucks I know but at Martin Motor Sports we will go that extra mile and check for codes that may have occurred or that may be active that you were unaware of to avoid expensive repairs in the future. Again, spending that little extra spare change in your pocket can go a long way to save you those bills in your wallet.

- Last but not least, check your fuses and connections for corrosion. You wouldn't believe how many units come in for "limp home mode" issues and a majority of the time it’s because of some dirt in a sensor. Yeah these things were designed to go through extreme conditions but you would be surprised how a little bit of debris on one tiny connection can ruin a whole weekend. So when you see that message of doom on your screen take a second and check out as many connections as you can because we know how frustrating it can be when you just had your unit serviced and the first mud hole you hit causes the limp home mode error. Technology - it sure is great but one little thing can cause error messages these days.

- As it gets colder out you may be less inclined to get out on your quad. Whether it’s to go for those last few rides before full on winter is here or to plow the driveway so the wife can get to work, no one likes wearing bulky gloves with a thumb throttle and everyone hates frostbite. Why not look into heated hand and thumb warmers? They are the cat’s meow when it comes to cold weather riding.

- Who says night time is for sleeping? For all you commander folks, as the days get shorter so does the light we get to drive around in. Don't let that stop you - have one of our techs install a light bar so you can make your own daylight and enjoy your toy to its fullest.
