Destination
Mackinac
Island |
|
Ever
wonder
what
life
on
Mackinac
Island
is
like
after
summer
passes
and
all
the
tourists
have
gone?
Well,
winter
time
is
a
great
opportunity
to
explore
the
island.
Last
season
my
self
and
some
of
the
guys
at
C&C
Sports
decided
to
check
it
out.
We
started
by
loading
the
sleds
up
in
Lewiston,
and
traveling
over
the
bridge
to
St
Ignace.
Once
we
arrived
we
were
able
to
unload
the
sleds
and
travel
across
the
frozen
tundra
known
as
the
ice
bridge.
The
ice
bridge
is
a
4
mile
section
between
St
Ignace
and
Mackinac
Island
marked
with
locals
Christmas
trees.
Riding
across
this
frozen
bridge
was
thrilling
to
say
the
least.
It’s
not
like
I’m
a
stranger
to
riding
frozen
water,
but
knowing
the
ice
bridge
had
just
been
deemed
safe
days
before
and
open
water
clearly
visible
in
the
distance
was
just
plain
spooky!
Once
we
arrived
on
the
island
we
were
able
to
travel
just
about
anywhere
we
wanted
with
respect
to
blocked
off
areas.
I
must
say
it
was
pretty
cool
traveling
streets
that
months
before
were
packed
full
of
tourists
and
horse
drawn
buggies.
One
of
the
coolest
things
was
being
able
to
travel
right
up
to
the
prestigious
Grand
Hotel
and
walk
the
entire
front
porch.
After
we
spent
a
few
hours
exploring
the
island,
we
got
lunch
at
the
Mustang
Lounge.
If
you
wish
to
stay
the
night
on
the
island
there
is
one
hotel
open,
however
we
ventured
back
across
the
ice
bridge.
All
in
all
I
found
this
to
be
a
great
day
trip
to
see
the
island
in
a
completely
different
way
than
many
of
us
are
used
to.
I
must
say
this
trip
is
a
nice
experience
but
it’s
not
for
snowmobilers
wanting
to
put
on
tons
of
miles
over
a
short
weekend. |
